Preemptive answers to possible questions - What is the Halo: Combat Eclipsed Project? The Eclipsed Project is an ongoing effort to create a new experience within the Halo 3: ODST engine, with the goal of creating brand new Multiplayer, Firefight and Campaign content. We are a small team of passionate modders and other talents with a plan, but in the near future we will be looking to open up the project to others who would be interested in doing their part. Whereas many Halo mods are (understandably) a rebalance or a remix of an existing campaign, the Eclipsed project will follow a new set of characters and events, with originally made levels and a new spin on Halo's gameplay. - What is the Eclipsed setting? The Eclipsed story takes place in an alternate Halo universe inspired by 80s pop culture and a cassette-futuristic setting, similar to the spin-off game Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. The universe has been created as a fun 'what if?' that takes existing Halo canon and imagines what would happen if a few things changed here and there, every now and then. - What is the Eclipsed story? Without spoiling too much, the story follows what could have happened had there have been more than one (living) Spartan onboard the Pillar of Autumn when it escaped Reach. Who are these Spartans? What will they get up to? Could they turn the tide of the battle at Installation 04? As well as the Spartans, what else may have changed in this alternate timeline? Who knows, you'll have to wait and see. - What kind of sandbox and gameplay will the mod have? The weapons sandbox will consist of reimagined favourites and original creations that are new to the Halo universe. You can get a feel for some of these weapons in the multiplayer maps that we have released, but bear in mind that they are not final and there is much work to be done until they are complete. Alongside the weapons, new vehicles, equipment and AI will appear in the mod. Everything has been designed anew for the project, so expect to see changes in everything you see. As for the gameplay itself, we're looking to make encounters more challenging and dynamic to keep players on their toes, and to think more tactically when facing the enemy. We have a few videos on our channel that you can watch to get an idea of the sorts of changes we are making. - What made you move from the CE engine? Besides the cool new features in the ODST engine; jank. Lots and lots of jank. As much as we like CE, its engine does not like us. - When will the mod be finished? Going to be very honest with you here; we don't know. It will very much likely be years from now. With the ODST tools being a somewhat recent release, and with very little documentation to follow, much of the modding process is spent learning how the engine works before we can do anything cool with it. Most of the videos you'll find on this channel are from our lead designer, where he's spent several hours figuring out how to make stuff like AI that can navigate rough terrain or Firefight reinforcements that can be called in from orbit with the touch of a button. To help keep things moving, we have a plan to release the project in chapters. - I'm a Halo modder / artist / budding rookie etc, and this project sounds cool! How can I help? At the moment our project lead is working on documentation and plans for the project so that we know where the story is going, what cool stuff we can put into the mod, and how to implement it with the tools available to us. Ins't you the guy that cried when 343I was going to introduce the option to buy Spartan Points on MCC, gave them negative feedback, which made them not do it, and now MCC is no longer updated because of that? Thanks for that, you're really positive to the Halo community. We could have more Halo Online maps right now, campaign crossplay for all Halos, a better Elite customization for Reach, new armors, etc. Instead, the game is dead! Great work!

Oh I am so onboard with this. I wish we had more alternate universe and 'what if?' stuff for Halo. Like a more proper 'Halo if it came out in 1999' mod that isn't just importing Digsite content into the existing campaign. Campaign overhauls are cool but you do desire some more custom content after a while. Would be great the least to see creative reimaginings of existing levels, their layouts completely changed and adding new encounters and possibilities with it.

I haven't been hyped for a Halo mod in a while. I seriously CANNOT wait for this!!!!!!!!!! I also fucking LOVE all the blood dragon references in this trailer.
I’m not gonna lie… if you guys ever think about completing the version in the CE engine… definitely do it. I’d like to know how you are planning on implementing effective elite enemies into H3 engine. Because their base code isn’t designed to be your enemy, most h3 mods with elite enemies has them feeling far to clunky and boring to fight.
We may consider finishing the CE demo in future, our focus is on the new engine now. As for the Elites, we're making changes to their reaction times, firing patterns etc to make them more aggressive and intelligent. In H3 they're a lot like the marines in that they are there to support the player as allies, but not get in the way and do everything for the player. As well as their stats and behaviour, we'll be making changes to their models and animations so that they can swing a bit faster, duck and roll from danger more effectively, etc.
Will you be releasing the original unfinished mod in CE? If not, please consider releasing it because CE and the 80s style looked so good! It could get released alongside the final Halo 3 version as to not risk spoiling anything. I just read a comment about the possibility of releasing a completed demo of the CE version which sounds amazing! Though, an incomplete version in the meantime would be great.

@SamuraiAlmond Nope. The Halo engines store objects like vehicles and characters in files called tags. Because the ODST engine was a slightly modified version of the H3 engine, most of these tags worked right away in the ODST engine. The only ones that were a bit funky were a few shaders and some of the AI properties, but they were easy enough to recreate. We finished the move over back in January.
