Absolutely. I'm playing it since release from time to time on the Steam Deck and my god it's such a lot of fun. It's not fully verified (yet) because most of the text is too small, though.
Steamdeck is trash. Cheap, but trash compared too Rog Alley ,LegionGo and pretty much all the other alternatives

I am addicted to both DRG and VS, so this must be a dream.
Stopped playing VS when they started adding nonsensical ritual-based gameplay where you have be specifially naked on 3rd sunday when moon is full to go to room, to kill a boss upside down while playing bongos.....

Never played this, looks cool and I adore DRG. Played DRG years ago when it first arrived on gamepass and bought it within the month to support the devs and I still play it to this day.
I killed a loot bug, and I'm not so proud about it.

£9 for THIS. Or £60+ for one of many AAA titles that have miserably under delivered. Put about 11hrs into it and having a blast. Scout was a bit tricky but the gunner is great. Haven't even tried the other two yet.
This is my first auto shooter/survival game so now I'm going to have to try the best of the rest.
Auto shooters are not games, it's literally mindless explosions and colours. You might aswell play candy crush.

The lack of "mining and grinding and mining and grinding..." needs bell ringing
Get treads on those turrets and they just follow you around absolutely shredding everything, it's also my favourite build.
Good game and I'm really enjoying it, I can't wait to see how much more they add.
Bought this on a whim and it's loads of fun. Is a bit grindy, but stupidly addictive.

Update: Played the hell out of this game, can't stop playing. Each class plays a bit different but Scout is my favourite. The upgrades you buy with the various metals that apply to all 4 classes, I am working on upgrading those and go out of my way to mine them on a dive. It really becomes noticeably helpful around 3 bars into an upgrade. Definitely worth a buy. Oh and really enjoy the commentary from the dwarves while playing, heheh.
tunneling strategy is a big difference in this one, do you go round or go through, i never really got into VS, but i love DRG and this has all the charm of DRG, i agree Engi is a beast
I like that you can often make your own chokepoints. Definitely a "just one more go" type game.
In the jungle map those vines regenerate so you can be untouchable if you stay in the middle of the vines for long enough for them to grow back

this set is really skill testing, partly because of what jim was saying about the "suspect" mechanic. on any given board state, when you have a choice to suspect up to one creature on either side of the board, u get a ton of choices and it is often hard to figure out what the best choice is because you don't know what each player will draw for the next 2-3 turns

I think this game is great actually, a stand out in the survivors genre. Like you said though, it's very grindy. Maybe even more than others in the genre. And yes, forcing me to waste a run (and my time) getting a weapon to lvl 12 just to unlock overclocks feels like it's there just to pad out the achievements and extend playtime.
I also think the difficulty is a little bit off, especially having played the shit out of DRG. You'd expect Hazard 2 to be a cakewalk, but it's actually extremely difficult. Hazard 3 is damn near impossible even with half the meta upgrades unlocked. I don't even wanna think about what Haz 4 and 5 are like. I think there needs to be more of a curve, the difficulty shouldn't spike so hard so early.
All that being said, I've been having a lot of fun with it even though it's just EA right now.

Thing is i dont think people will look past them added new classes to this game when people have been asking for them in the real game and have only ever had 4. People will have a fit over this.
The thing that scares me a bit with this game, as soon as I see gems, it give me mobile game vibes. 😅 Not saying it is but man it looks the part(art style)
sounds like a faithful adaptation of the main game into an auto-shooter.
The OG also trended towards "issues" at low level and only after you get some levels behind each class (between lvl 18 and the first prestige) does your kit truly start to shine as the various options have now been if not purchased then are now available rather than level-locked.
that low level experience almost put me off DRG for life as it held a little too much back until a few hours into the gameplay, especially as the default mode back in the day was that of trekking down large empty one-way corridoors hitting the occasional seam with a pickaxe and having almost no light or ammo or armour-destruction to nearly deal with the enemies that occasionally decided to spawn in on top of you directly out of the terrain. it got oh so very much better later on but that new player experience was entirely the wrong kind of "it gets fun later" filter.

The demo of DRGS was my intro to the genre, and I really enjoyed it. I've tried a few others now and eventually made my way to the OG Vampire Survivors, which is grindy but good.
What makes this feel grindy now is the limited number of classes, locations, and just a lack of objectives and bosses. I love this, and it has the potential to beat Vampire Survivors at its own game, but it does need a lot more content. Either narrative elements, more classes, customisation, more additional objectives, and definitely more locations are needed. But for a tenner on early access, I think it's quite stellar.
Looks like a gutted out version Riftbreaker only without all the basebuilding.. So a little confused on this one. Seems shallow as hell. Just Riftbreaker with the combat only? Then what is the point? Grinding to upgrade your gear so that you can grind some more? Don't see the pull of this one at all.

I'm enjoying it so far but the menus are a little janky like the upgrades one having different information in odd places. Looking forward to seeing what they do with it but i do feel that it needs some kind of additional complexity layer that seems missing. Also, 12 upgrade options between runs is hilariously small. It's not a lot for the genre at all. It's bland 2% increases for the most part, to boot.

This game company one best out there. your really missing out if you never played Deep rock galatic. both there game worth the money.
I have watched quite a lot of people play it on TH-cam so I got it yesterday as it looks fun BUT they really don't do a any sort of job, currently, of informing you of any of the mechanics in the game. It really is sink or swim finding out what to do.

It's a great game, considering it's current state. It needs some balancing, tho. Player damage feels very weak as you near the end of Haz 2 and start venturing into Haz 3. Enemy damage feels generally OK.
There's also an ever-present sense of being rushed on every level of a dive. There is no dive where you won't feel rushed. Which is kinda unfortunate, but I'm hoping this is just due to it being so early in development.
But overall, it's worth the price.
this just launched in EARLY ACCESS! It wasn't stressed enough, it's already ridiculously fun, the potential is huge and it's only 9 bucks!

Game definitely needs to get rid of the locked weapons, and needs more content and variety. The mining aspect is absolutely fantastic though and sets it apart from other survivor type games. Makes it super fun and interesting, though at the same time a bit frustrating for certain characters that need to be facing enemies to even fire.
Unlocking things is content. It is kind of one of the major mechanics.
@@synnical77 In this case nah. Giving players new weapons that cant be overlocked until they've done basically a full run with them is just padding and useless grinding. It feels freaking awful too and ruins all the joy of getting new weapons.

Absolute meh. Steam reviews would be much more critical is it weren't for the DRG paint coat. The price is also not great and they even released the supporter pack DLC straight up with early access release... Besides having better graphics than some other VS games it's far more shallow. It has double the price of other VS games (in my region at the very least). I own the DRG with all the DLCs but this game doesn't stand out in any way to me.
Nimrod is fantastic imho, though it is yet a demo.

I bought the game and enjoyed it(have all 4 classes at about lv 10) but i think it will get old pretty fast, just more enemies and more insane levels doesn't really equate to fun
What is your definition of 'getting old fast'. For one to level all 4 classes to lvl 10 means you've already poured a crazy amount of time into the game.
@@synnical77 Steam says i have 8 hours played. I don't think lvl 10 is the cap, not sure what it goes up to. I had a blast, i just feel like contunuing is going to be more mobs and more cramped spaces, which to me is going to be frustrating.

got a problem Mac, the concept of 'Auto-Battler'. This is my first exposure to it and I have to say, I'm hating it. You can't fire any weapons the weapons are fired for you? Naw brah, not for me.

It has none of the charm that makes DRG great.. Like the classes don't have their own quirks. Flares to light up the map? Nope. Class equipment (shields for gunner, hook for scout, drills for driller, etc)? Nope. Co-op? Nope. Convoluted terrain to navigate through? Nope. The upgrades you get is all just +damage, +rate of fire, basically, etc, which are really boring stat boosts. The overclocks seem like the change up the weapons but they don't actually. It's just a let down compared to the gem that made DRG the game it is, really because it was made by a different studio which I guess didn't even understand what made DRG great. A lot of wasted potential.
And this is just scratching the surface of analysis. There's way more problems not said here, which you can find on the negative reviews on steam.
Game is great, a lot of fun. Too long didn't read.

I just got this game a few hours ago, addicting!
At the beginning it felt too passive, and I kinda wished for more active skills, or controlled mining, but after a couple of hours the game just feels really good as it is.
Especially since you have to focus on the enemies anyways, and the controls do have some skill requirement.
Even if my hype fizzles out after the next 1-2 gaming sessions, it was still worth 9 euros.
Its fun at first, then annoying because you have to grind so much and basically waste runs pointlessly, but then kind of fun again after you get a good build but then again you feel kind of too weak and can barely keep up with the enemy progression.
Mixed bag right now, removing the necessity to get to lvl 12 before getting overclocks and say, changing it so you unlock more overclocks after getting there in a run instead of blocking all overclocks would make it way less annoying.
Some kind of tutorial and more tooltips would be nice too, what does a fire dot or an acid dot do exactly? Can DOTs stack, how can they stack? Is more damage on a dot weapon pointless or does it affect the dot in any way?
No real info which makes it kind of unapproachable and seems very grindy and bland at first even though there is some nuance in the upgrades as some weapons benefit from one upgrade way more than others (some weapon with high damage but very slow reload speed might benefit from cutting that reload time down more than more damage from a DPS perspective for instance)
Looks like a complete cash grab to me. Twice the going rate of the many competitors it has and about half the gameplay depth.
Halls of Torment reams this and is on steam sale right now. Plus it doesn't look like a mobile game slapped together in a month.
I now have 430 hrs in deep rock galactic and this game looks like it would have been the initial release of drg and drg would be the 2nd installment and the WAY better of the 2.
I';; never play this game because I never really liked this style of game since I first tried it when it was defender/asteroids.

Nah, an asset flip is when you buy premade assets from a store and dump them into your game vanilla, these guys are using their own assets, do concentrate.

I love this genre but something about this game turned me off. It just doesn't feel like much fun to play. It just lacks something that the best VS-likes have (VS, Death Must Die, Brotato, Rogue Genesia, Halls of Torment, etc.)

You dismiss some games entirely for being "boring", but this autocombat grindfest with ai generated levels is "lots of fun to be had"? What? Its a cheaply made VS knockoff with a DRG skin on it. I like how you review triple A games and I've been watching you for years, and I get it you like some type of games more than others, but this pointless grind-hell getting a thumbsup is a mystery to me.
It was one of the most boring demos I've ever played and made me question what am I doing with my time.

@@isk8atparks He reviewed them, but did he max out the shit out of them? It can takes a while to the endgame to even see if a game is shallow or not. If the first 10 hours of a $5 game are enjoyable but in the end it turns out to be shallow and not a 500h+ game, does it deserve to be thumbed up?
The grinding is kind of part for the course only with the other deep rock galactic the amount of different missions randomly generated caves made it not feel as bad but this a topdown auto shooter and cant possibly Match the sheer variaty and chaos of deep rock galactic
