It's nice that this little spinoff wasn't a disappointment, which is what happens a lot of the time with different companies making spinoff games like this
Got almost 20 hours into it. Starting to tackle haz 4 missions. Definitely opens up once you got the new weapons and overclocks, able to experiment with builds more. This last update was really good, looking forward to see what they add next!
I wish they would innovate a bit more and get rid of the "only move" gameplay. Maybe use "space" to use class specific powers, like grappling for scout to get over a block, c4 for driller, a shield for gunner and all that neat stuff :)
I think there is lots of plans to innovate. The devs are pretty present around streams and such. They already are coming up with additions and changes that have improved the game!
It's a spinoff of an indie game that didn't lose the style/soul of the main game. It doesn't feel like a cash grab of "Here's your favorite game but different!" that preys on fans of the original, but more like a game with the same connections as the base but for a different audience. Despite being early access it actually looks and feels pretty darn good.
I just wish rerolling your options would block that rolls options. I hate wasting 120+ gold trying to get the correct weapon and the game just gives me the same few guns in different orders.
Survivor has some interesting ideas that I kind of wish were in DRG in some capacity. Not many, since I wouldn't want DRG to become too similar to Survivor, but some. Namely, I think the voicelines for when you need to finish up the final wave soon, should be added to Point Extract. This mission type consistently throws off newer players because, nowhere is it really stated that swarm size gets bigger as time goes on. Yeah, Mission Control urges you to "focus" and "get it done" at the start, but he's _always_ like that. If after 20 minutes, and then every 10 minutes, he said some form of, "The bugs are getting more aggressive, move it!", I think more players would pick up on it without having to fail first because they didn't understand what was going on. The other things I want are just some of the weapons lol, the Krakatoa turrets for Engineer could be an interesting alternative to his bullet-shooty ones, and the taser gun would make a pretty fun secondary on either Scout or Driller.
I wasn't too sure about DRG survivor until the recent dreadnought update. Now it's a lot more fun. The game will probably amazing by the time it's finished with early access
A lot of my favorite games are often spin-off titles. I grew up with these sort of games, particularly Sonic Spinball and Dead Ops Arcade. It's rare, but some spinoffs can really kick ass, and Deep Rock Survivor is one of them. It's just a bit lonesome.
Rogue Genesia is probably my favorite right behind the original VS. It's such an odd game, but really good. I think DRG really translates well into the survivor genre though. One of the better games available. I wonder how it feels to someone that hasn't played DRG.
yeah honestly I was pleasantly surprised with DRG: Survivor! the game does really cool stuff with movement that the genre hasn't really touched on yet, and despite needing to run around all the time I don't get the buzzkill of dragging enemies away like I do in other survivors-likes. It's a genre that hasn't really gotten a whole lot of bold experimentation (much like roguelites/likes if you prefer, most roguelites are just randomized items + video game format) but I think survivor qualifies!
I think the only thing I dont like are searching for Boolo caps. The amount of times I end up at 11/12 make me tilt. Blooms and Morkite are almost always faster and easier for me personally to find.
I left some funky reviews for DRG Survivor. Well I ended up playing it like an addict for like 4 hours straight when I first got it, I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right with it.
A) this game is still in "early access". B) when this video came out, it was already a lot of fun. C) now 4 months later it got great updates D) its polished and feels finished. It is totally NOT my kind of game since i am bad at "bullet hell". But it is GREAT! It is fun! Best investment in a game. And wiping out hordes of bugs is addicting
its a really good survivor game BUT I REALLY HOPE they take the hint and give it coop. one of the strongest themes about Deep Rock is the coop between the dwarfs
I actually played the beta when that was out and got so addicted to it that I bought Survivor at launch... Which is funny, bc I still don't own DRG on Steam yet. 😅
My only main criticism of the game is that I cant really stew in my super powerful choices and rip through Glyphids endlessly to enjoy the power. Id love an option to just continue going down into more and more runs with my current build with every 5 floors giving another boss. But still, the fact my only criticism is that I cant play it forever is a sign of just how good and fun it is.
I'm upset I'm not able to play DRG survivor or Rogue Core when that releases. I really hope they do a console version at some point. I can't afford a pc right now.
I haven't seen anyone do it before but maybe it's out there I would like to see a game like this but a story and an end game to that story that would be a very good idea I think
Honestly, I hope upgrade system is a placeholder. It is all just big RNG that I barely have control of, I either find good upgrades and have some fun or just suffer with no chance to come back and die. Complete a challenge and die to unlock new item. Reach new level and die to unlock new gun. Spend time to upgrade gun to unlock overclocks and die. Why do I have to die 100 times just to unlock stuff so I could play like everyone else? And meta progression is literally just nothing. I mean "+2% movespeed"? "+4% exp"? Am I playing a mobile cashgrab? And I have to spend time mining resources for these perks (which I probably going to need on higher hazards) instead of doing current objectives. In short terms, I barely had any fun playing DRG Survivor. I never felt any control over my runs, just watching a machine picking numbers for me like in some casino. I enjoyed other horde survival games much more since they didn't require that much time invesment and I thought this is a point of this genre.
If you compare this game to many others in its genre, it's fairly mid. I think it's a game that relies on the DRG aesthetic to sell copies. The upgrades only being stat upgrades Is fairly disappointing and I hope they try to add weapon combinations so the game has more replay value.
Good start for a small studio however there are indeed a lot of shortcomings they have to overcome. Fingers crossed because I feel like it can go either way. I just find it weird that the only complaint we spend time on in the video is about unlocking overclocks while it's totally irrelevant after a few hours of play time and so many things which have an impact throughout your whole playtime are not brought up.
@@tomalexander4327 that's simply an excuse. I am talking about the game as it is currently, I am not going to talk about how it might be better in the future.
"meta" upgrades between missions make this game a rogueLITE instead of a roguelike. Roguelike are the games where each run you start is the same and the only progression is your skill and knowledge like Noita, or maybe alternative, but NOT stronger starter characters/weapons like in Risk of Rain 2 (balance aside)
Funnily enough, Survivor is what got me to try out DRG (I am obsessed with DRG now)

Hot Take: DRG Survivor isn't a spin off, it's just Karl going for a walk between shifts.
This. This is my headcannon now.
This absolutely needs more likes.

Another amazing video Sniss! I've been playing this game so much recently and it is really fun to have some of the crazier builds.
I just wish rerolling your options would block that rolls options. I hate wasting 120+ gold trying to get the correct weapon and the game just gives me the same few guns in different orders.
Should do like VS and have a seperate block option

I've got over 400 hours in the game. Didn't know they get larger over time until now. So I'd say I agree XD
Speaking of artifacts, I am surprised they didn't add the little bobble-dwarf you can slap at the abyss bar as one of them.
"What is this, a bloody leprechaun?"

The weapon unlock system isn't a downside to me. I just do a 2 star mission to benchmark the weapon's base performance while collecting materials.
