    John and Catherine are a husband and wife team from Redding, Connecticut. We grow food and flowers on just under 2 acres of property, but we just bought 40 acres of land and are working on building our small farm from the ground up using reclaimed materials whenever possible.

    Buying baby ducks back in the 90's convinced me to write ducks off for life! Never again! Love this predator proof run in the water!

    I love the idea! I've been brainstorming a way to get our ducks onto the pond safely. We also have several predators to protect them from and need to figure out how to keep their section free of ice come winter. Now my mind is racing with ideas!

    Geese. They out poop the ducks here in the Mitt. I do like your duck sanctuary; had a similar duck-run plotted out for a property I was looking at a couple of years ago😉👍

    Ducks are excellent eating tho ~ THAT 1 thing i love about ducks ~ "Ain't no rest for the wicked" ~ Life must go on! I got bills to pay, things to do, and a little bit of play! 😆 Some one love ducks he hee ~ mine never did stink, nor dirty, they did more good than bad ~ Humans poop more than ducks do, Look at all the good fertilizer there spreading ~ Up by the Great Lakes, man tried to build things into there natural territory ! Warehouse, offices buildings, homes, ect. They poop all over every thing they built 👍 idk how many billions of dollars was lost? It now, all lays in ruins, today!

    That’s the truth! Ours are super messy as well! Like the idea for sure! I don’t think the coop area would be big enough for our ducks. Will you be doing a follow up video with the ducks in it!?

  • @ThePond2023
    @ThePond2023 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    great video.
    There are many species of ducks that aren't loud but all ducks are messy lol.
    Sand works great for keeping the mud down in their pens wherever they can get into water and make a mess.
    why did you put the wire on the inside vs on the outside of the pen?

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I put the wire on the inside vs outside just for aesthetics, so that you wouldn't see the fasteners and seams from the outside

  • @426superbee4
    @426superbee4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Does your Emue require some kind of grind up shells or gravel ect? like chickens and ducks? to help digest there foods? We had plenty of sand for them to eat too, but they needed the sharp shells, and pea gravel

    How did this hold up? Also, have you been struck by duck math? Lol i have! I have 20, most i hatched myself after most of my chicken flock was wiped out by a weasel! It killed my Drake and seriously injured my 2 girls (pekins). So I gathered every egg i could find and incubated them. I love my ducks, i was there when they were "born" 😂

  • @robertfaber6796

    Interesting idea. Depending on how many ducks there are and how much they are fed, it might work without fouling the pond to badly, at least when the water level is high. The pond appears to be largely covered by duckweed. Whatever reaches into range of the ducks will make an excellent food source and could reduce the need for purchased food.

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yah the ducks have def. Kept that one little section of pond clear of duck weed which has been nice.

    Where's the ducks???????

  • @stephanied9629
    @stephanied9629 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very cool. Only criticism is that you used chicken wire and not hardware cloth. Chicken wire is to contain chicken or in the case, ducks, it does not protect them from predators. Snakes, minks, weasels, mice, rats, etc can all get in that enclosure.

    • @stephanied9629
      @stephanied9629 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also the pond needs an aerator.

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup I hear you! This was built for someone who was paying to have it built, not at my own property. Budgets sometimes dictate materials.
