Both the Crinale and the Angelus took their designs from Ridge Racer V, a callback design harking back to their debut appearances on the PS1 which later served as the basis for their evolution in Ridge Racer 6 and Ridge Racer on PS Vita, one taking the route of a Le Mans Prototype and the other taking a Ferrari XX Programme-inspired design. This is in contrast to their previous PSP appearance where they were much more radical and experimental (and later served as the basis for their RIDGE RACER 7 counterparts.) Given that they seemed to like switching between these types every few games, I wonder if a new Ridge Racer will ever come... and which version of the Devil Machines they will bring to us next, if they do.
Danver Hijack and Terrazi Wild Gang are the only “Special” cars that were recycled to use with normal cars on future Ridge Racer games after this one Soldat Crinale and Kamata Angelus are recycled from Ridge Racer V; I even rebuilt the Soldat Crinale in the form of Lego! Namco Pac-Man always has him driving something different, from a Red Roadster to a Joust-like Propeller car, a Spaceship and even Solvalou from Mario Kart and Ridge Racer 3D Age Angelus and Crinale Kid are recycled on Ridge Racer 3D and both appear as a livery for Age Solo Petit500(obviously a reference to the Fiat 500) Also the Yamasa Raggio is like Grand Turismo; a car IRL
Opinions on each one: HIJACK: Ridge Racer’s first ever Monster Truck; heavy cars like those are hard to control at high speeds WILD GANG: Quick with amazing control, but can never beat RED COMET DEVIL: Remade from Ridge Racer V but the drifting seems more balanced ANGEL: Remade from Ridge Racer V but with much lower top speed and doesn’t handle like an F1 car; it also looks more similar to a McLaren F1 PAC-MAN: Stubborn to drift, but the grip recovers control instantly RED COMET: Even I’m surprised this THE ONLY Ridge Racer car built IRL DEVIL KID: Like a Rocket Car, that’s it nuff said. ANGEL KID: A Lazy recolour of DEVIL KID IMO but with slower acceleration
awesome video, sad I missed out on ridge racer 2 psp only played the first one. it seems to have an incredible selection for tracks (surprised to see a RR4 track) and I was not expecting the 13th kid to return as a Age branded car 0_o.
You have literally all R4 tracks in this game aswell as many other circuits that weren't available in the first game! In comparison to Ridge Racer 1, the sequel has more content to offer in terms of tracks, gamemodes and music selection which includes remasters from R4 with some few new remixes in between! Unfortunately many special cars from the predecessor were replaced and playing the Minigame doesn't reward you with the Retro GP car anymore as far as my current knowledge goes!
13th Racing Kid being an Age solo car is actually based on the fact that the Age Ecureuil, which originates from R4 itself, was the Angel car of that game; the Angelus Kid was basically a successor to it, and shared one of its liveries (the RC Micro Mouse Mappy livery, which was the traditional Angelus colours compared to the others). I guess they simply saw the opportunity to revive the 13th Racing Kid from Ridge Racer Revolution as a counterpart when deciding upon this game's Special Machines. (Of course, they then later revived this special machine as the PETIT500 in RR3D, where both liveries can be used in addition to a new, more standard livery.)
@@vista1456786 The Devil Cars of R4 are quite a ways more hidden in Rage Racer and R4 compared to the rest, especially if you're used to seeing or calling them by their most common iterations (Soldat Crinale and Kamata Angelus), but as a series tradition they couldn't ever truly abandon the concept. The Assoluto Squaldon/Dragone of Rage Racer takes the role of the Devil Car in that game due to its insane performance and 6,666,666 credits price, and the Lizard Nightmare (in its Dig Racing Team livery - #13, black livery, now with added flames) takes on 13th Racing duty in the same way the Ecureuil is the White Angel.
Was the AI for the Crinale fight that hard? I breezed through it using the Tier 2 Himmel with ease as the crinale would often brake too hard to drift on corners
The AI can be very random at times when it comes to difficulty! For me the Crinale was quite strict with its intrinsic Turbo Rubberband throughout the entire race! Not as hard as the Opus 1 Tour but still very challenging!
@@ItsJustMetrion Hmm, I read that the rubber banding and overall AI seemed to be heavily toned down from ridge racer 1 psp, and honestly I can feel it. I'm still clearing my Ex tour, but holy hell it was a pain to go through the Opus tours + finish Ne Plus Ultra on RR1.
@@Resolute.j Generally the further you progress through the Opus Tours, the easier they get! The AI has a habit to not handle very high speeds very well, especially on very technical circuits!
The Crinale is actually a Porsche Schuppan 962CR with the front end of a Mosler Consulier GTP, while the Angelus is a McLaren F1 GT and Ferrari F50 combined.

Its gameplay is horrible.
I mean, this game is from 2006... for the PSP. Not exactly surprising given I have played it before.
