The unique combos each class has that allows other classes to use abilities tied to what you used is cool. For instance using open the gap allows rogues to use an ability using open the gap. If you feel adventurous, head out to wilds end in your low to mid teens farm the lizardmen for some nice chain mail (will hold you over till you can start picking up the tier 2 schematics to make your own stuff or till you start going deeper into the dungons, which have their own schematics and drops). To answer you question about crafting, the stated goal from Neph (the dev in charge of crafting and itemization) is to have crafting be on par with dropped loot. Having some really good crafted gear that needs you to go out and kill a rare mob for a schematic or rare material to make it. They want crafting to be integral to the entire experience

Hi Rekit, I just finished watching the vid. I thought it was a fair assessment of the game, I'm still enjoying the time I get to play it and like Tevin (Catdad) I'm addicted to crafting, I enjoy going out and gathering materials and producing items that are useful almost right away. Nice to see ya playing! I have been enjoying the game despite the early alpha build. The group play is there, the grind is there, and I have seen a lot added in the updates already. I just hope they continue the pace and get it out within the 2 years they have given the roadmap for.
For anyone wondering... if you can't get to your corpse, there are player spells to summon it. Both the Summoner and the Necromancer get the spell that when they cast it, will bring your corpse to where you and the spell caster are standing. You do not need to be grouped to have this spell cast on you. And on top of that this does bring up a confirmation window for the corpse owner. Presumably that is in place so some caster can't troll you by summoning your body to somewhere even worse, lol.
There are balances to the death penalty.. Clerics get rezzes... I THINK Pallies do to eventually.. Necros and Summoners can summon your corpse... However, Rangers need to be able to track corpses, which they can't do yet.. Unless it comes at higher level.
Haven’t watched this yet, but I’m enjoying what we have so far. I’m still on the side of caution with the project as a whole. But, I hope for the best. Also happy new year! 🎉
okay idk who mentioned the music in this game but i just picked it up out of 2 parts boredom 1 part curiosity and DAMN, the music is actually really well done
If it takes 10 years just to be in early alpha stages. I wonder how long will it be in beta stage and fully released. Another 10 years? Will be sad. Most of us are getting oooooolllllddddd.
So happy you have a new video out. But since this is the only way I have to tell you stuff I was in najena last night on my fresh 20 mage on quarm and a 34 monk invited me to a group as he pulled drelzna on top of me and we killed her and he gave me my first ever pair of Jboots. Sorry but I just had to tell you. Thanks for all the amazing content brother.

Pantheon Early Access is playable, very playable. It's more like an early beta than an alpha. It's got bugs and several things incomplete, but it is very playable and has significant promise. I hope there are enough early access purchases to get them more funding to be able to hire more developers to finish more of the game. Early access doesn't have a monthly subscription, so I think it's a lot less paid beta and more like many other games on Steam. Pantheon feels a lot more finished than most of the Early Access games that I have tried on Steam. I am not displeased in the slightest that I bought it. I was a non-believer and am definitely not a Brad fan. I was actually hesitant because of his involvement early on and the many declarations in earlier years for what the game would be. I do still think it will only attract a niche but that niche could be rather large.
first time watcher. good stuff! authentic, honest, no bullshit, but entertaining. I am getting older as well - might be something for me and some buddies. you got a new sub 🤠
Good review, i like your style - The most things you mention is going to be improved with time as you probably already understand, and also Map is coming with fog of war and without gps, and hopefully with other fun attributes.
I have to say the game is pretty good for the style it’s going for. I like that you have to grind out levels on the same place and really get to know the places. The goblin cave at like level 10 I have been there for a couple levels now and have got to know it well. Most games they make these complex and beautiful vistas/areas and you blow through them in a few min. It feels like EQ for sure. We just need more updates. Get to work boyz you got something special.
I agree, I spent hours in Najena on classic EQ and now am very familiar with the zone. It allows the player to resonate with an area and become accustomed to it, rather than the modern blare though to he next ding.
At last, an honest review! Thank you! As an ex-DAoC player this wee mmo has caught my eye, what's stopping me? Wipe fear... fuck throwing 100s of hours into smg just to have the Rug pulled from under you. I think I'll wait thanks to your info! 🤔🤟
They have announced the only wipe they expect is when game launches (likely in a couple of years). Their goal is to not wipe prior unless there's some super huge major reason that they have to.
I was a pantheon hater after Brad died in the development slowed to a crawl. I started last weekend and the wife and I have a good 40+ hours in. We are having a blast. I didn’t think it was possible since I was bashing the game so much.
So I am actually looking for classic EverQuest reborn. I want something that emulates EQ but has new content. Refreshing the experience. By the way you are a true “bro” and maybe to cool for social media.
Can change text size and your intuition about ability hot bars was correct. Up to lvl 15 on my Monk and loving it. Obviously game is need of a ton more development but have been having a blast.
It could just be that I'm stubborn, but I don't mind Exp loss; I think it adds to the need for players to proverbially 'git gud' to progress. When joining a group past level 20 in old EQ, I had faith that everyone was at least halfway competent, and most were. Those who didn't learn the basics of their class usually wouldn't make it to 20. But in later games like WoW or TOR, most pick-up groups didn't understand things like aggro control, crowd control, or focus fire. And since there was no real death penalty, there was no need for players to ever bother improving. The example that comes to mind was following raid instructions. There was a room in Temple of Veeshan where people were instructed not to go past a certain square or they would aggro the pit, and on dozens of raids I only saw it happen once. Meanwhile in Molten Core, every single raid we would wipe on the second fight because someone would aggro the imps from the first room, half a dozen times every single week for months. It's like people won't give effort until the penalty is harsh enough to force it. Otherwise, good video. I've gotten my brother and some friends to try EQ before, so now trying to talk them into trying Pantheon.
Granted I'm also basing it off hearing that clerics and shaman start getting rezzes fairly early, compared to OG EQ when clerics couldn't EXP rez until I think 49. And I've heard that at 12, corpses can be summoned by Necros and Summoners. If there were no way for players to offset the penalties, I would say one or the other would be enough.
some dood name joppa......made me laugh. That's the game director, who took over when Brad McQuaid sadly left us in 2019 to role play in the afterlife. To me, i agree with what many have said, this is what EQ2 should of been. Just remember this is Early Access, and the game is far from being 1.0. So, some of these concerns will most likely be addressed as the game continues to get fleshed out. Like I know there are plans to allow players to swap professions at some point, its just they are more focused on things like xp balance, and the torch thing. Also mind you many of the backers have been able to play for a while, and through out this past year.
Nice, I'm glad the backers have had "hands on" for awhile then, it would have sucked to drop money on a game and then wait years to play anything, so thats good. I agree many of my hic-ups with the game are small shit, and I'm hoping they will be addressed at some point. I also agree that there are waaaay bigger concerns for the Dev/Joppa to be focusing on. Also thank you.
@@RekitRogue Joppa is a good dood. If you can, try an catch him when he is live streaming on Twitch as JoppaVash. he spends most the time answering questions, and taking feedback very seriously. I watched him live as he watched Lazy Peons vid and took the feedback very seriously.
Early access is the killer of multiplayer games. It's either buy in now when the game is unfinished or hope it doesn't get abandonded by either the developers or the playerbase in the next who knows how many years. The developers now have to cater to the needs of both new players and end level content players. If any of these two groups are unhappy the game is dead before it comes out of early access.
I'd give it a try but I'm getting a bit tired of having to pay to test a company's product for them...Maybe I'd pay $10 just to try out the unfinished product but $40 is quite a bit when you consider you can get some high quality FINISHED games for that price. They didn't even partake in the steam winter sale...
Very true! It is absolutely the company try to save their game by charging 40$ to Alpha test. Hopefully they keep their shit together and start to push the envelope of development.
put about three hours in, let me put a spin. Its to me like Minecraft survival crossed with vanilla wow with no add-ons. The "unknown" aspect of the game is what's appealing. Don't know if I will play it alot, but I feel compelled to go back because its challenging.
Absolutely agree with dying on the hill of best level sound ever. My biggest disappointment so far is the skellies not having the "proper" skelly laugh.
Why the hell have you not done a first impressions of Embers Adrift? (I don't work for them, but I have played their eq-like game since it released two years ago) Enjoy the way you put this YT together. Subscribed. And I also swear a lot because Australian, its in our consitution.
@@RekitRogue Fair call, but their payment service shafted them and they have opened the game up for everyone to play for free until they port it to Steam in a few months.
I nostalgia HARD for EQ1999! I remember going to join a group in Lower Guk. I knew the areas to avoid. I could walk invis, but the dead frogs could see me. EVERYTHING was tombstone RED. The group could not save me if I died. And I had better not train them! I was in this hall...the room before me was full of TS frogs. So was the room behind me. ...BLINK BLIBK...my invis was going down!! If they saw me I was dead. Corpse run would be all me. The group would not help. (This was before summons. Damn, I made some good money doing that when it came out!) Invis dropped...they didn't see me. I knew maybe they would still "hear" when I started to recast invis. They didn't. Never did I feel so much terror. No game has ever done that to me. Game developers today be like, "We can't do that! We'd lose subs! Better to have epic gear quests at level 5! Everyone is happy and will stay with us forever!" I pray Pantheon will have that EQ1999 vibe.
@@t.s.adrian8785 My very first EQ character was a human Warrior, it took me forever to figure out how to get outside the city of Qeynos. By the time I found the noobie yard it was dark, I couldn't see shit, until a large rat waddled into view, I conned him. An Even fight... I attacked, it was a nail biter, but I got him on the run... The *CRUNCH* "Fippy Darkpaw hits you!" As far as a younger audience goes, I actually think some of the youngsters coming up on Roblox might enjoy the graphics and style. Is it Ashes of Creation or ESO in terms of artwork/beauty? No, but it is asthetucally pleasing in the kind of old world way that Valheim is.
@@EB-bl6cc It is still very raw, I made a monk to mess around with and there was no attack animation for the bo-staff I found while out adventuring. The staff would disappear and I would vibrate at the enemy until it died. They have A LOT to polish.
@@RekitRogue a lot of animations are just placeholders. they needed to get a game out. but yeah, I totally understand why people would pass for now. mastery isn't in, jewel crafting isn't in, the itemization is all over the place, crafting past t1 has a ton of issues, many classes feel much more complete than others.. so on and so forth
FYI, apparently there's a spell casting class that has a spell that can summon your corpse. I think it's warlock? I haven't tried the game myself, but saw another review by Splattercat
Thank you for your honest review. As a 51 year old gamer who loved playing Everquest, the title really appeals to me. And I actually don't think it's so bad that it doesn't appeal to a young, modern audience, as your buddy said so well. The question at the end of the day is whether the project can sustain itself as a niche product. If only because it's Buy2Play and doesn't require a subscription. After all, the server costs continue to run, even if the title doesn't sell. Sorry for my bad English, it's not my native language.
@@wichtelzwerg4255 All good brother, I am really enjoying the journey on pantheon. I hope they keep after it, because this game could be very special. 🍻
I'm 200 hours in since EA dropped and leveled a couple of characters to 20+ and I've def gotten my moneys worth. Lot of fun with a group of friends and has potential. We'll see how it goes though.
Being an OLD (in years) MMO player that was around for the original launch of EQ, I just cannot understand what was done on the development of this game for the last 10 years. While I am one of those who has waited all those years to play the game, I just cannot feel that I can wait another 10 years in the hope that they actually finish the development of the base game, if they do. Having spent too much money on games that fizzle out while in Early Access and the developers walk away when the money dries up, I find my days of taking a risk are dried up. Seem to remember the claims of 'the next EQ' or the next SWG' so many times over the years for so many indie MMOs but have yet to see any have reasonable successful outcomes. Also remember so many WKing those projects, yet those voices fell silent over time.
Well you're not wrong, as game consumers we have had a lot of promises tossed our way and many companies have failed to deliver. I do hold out some hope, I have chose to believe or go with the flow and enjoy "what is" if it becomes all they hope and dream, great! If not, I am still enjoying the EA for what it is. I do hope you find some adventure friend, and thank you for sharing your thoughts. 🍻
26:43 summoner and I think necro can corpse summon if you can not recover your body. It happened to me exploring a cave I didn’t realize was for groups… awesome review
I really like how the death penalty is currently. It discourages people from bad behavior and encourages them to learn. It also means that higher level characters are likely played by more knowledgeable/better players.
I can respect that, I am also "accustomed" to this mechanic, it's just a brutal one, and not many newer players will enjoy. BUTT they will learn or they will die I suppose. 😂
I understand that most of us, developers included, are scrawny nerds without much combat proficiency, but ffs guys - the sword goes between the player and the enemy. You don't hold it behind your back like you're trying to protect it from harm. Weapons can be expensive and all, but being at the forefront of the action is kind of what they're made for. Good video Rogue, the game does look kind of interesting. Here's hoping it gets to a better state soon. Also, skinning a bat is delicate work, Tev. Sometimes you just have to take your time and do the job right.
@@ScoobyTimes2 Best advice I ever received while playing Classic EQ, was the game is a journey not a race, go at the speed that keeps you smiling. I hope your adventures are badass friend. 🍻
@@RekitRogue Both Necros and Summoners can summon corpses once they hit level 12 I think it was. Both Clerics and Shamans can both do rezzes, both with xp restoring rezzes just like in EQ. I think the first 0% rez was at level 8 and then it was something like 12 or 16 until they get the first 25% rez.
@@RekitRogue Oh, I forgot to mention. You can also use /drag I think it was to drag your corpse around so if it's in a dangerous spot you can run up to it, target it and hit a drag macro, and then run away to a safer spot before looting your items.

@@mropie81 Pretty alpha still I think. The progress has been good though.

Can change text size and your intuition about ability hot bars was correct. Up to lvl 15 on my Monk and loving it. Obviously game is need of a ton more development but have been having a blast.
I am also having fun! I hope they keep after it.
All very good points! Thank you for sharing the insight friend. Also I hope your adventures have been awesome. 🍻
@@kalampakos I absolutely agree, EA is typically a double edged sword of bullshit. I hope VR can keep the game moving in the right direction.

Damn, I made some good money doing that when it came out!)
Invis dropped...they didn't see me. I knew maybe they would still "hear" when I started to recast invis. They didn't.
Never did I feel so much terror.
No game has ever done that to me. Game developers today be like, "We can't do that! We'd lose subs! Better to have epic gear quests at level 5! Everyone is happy and will stay with us forever!"
I pray Pantheon will have that EQ1999 vibe.

Thank you for your honest review. As a 51 year old gamer who loved playing Everquest, the title really appeals to me. And I actually don't think it's so bad that it doesn't appeal to a young, modern audience, as your buddy said so well.
