The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized automobile that was produced by Chevrolet in three generations for the 1964 through 1978 model years. Part of the General Motors (GM) A-body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles included coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons. The "Super Sport" versions were produced through the 1973 model year and Lagunas from 1973 through to 1976.[1]
After a four-year absence, the El Camino was reintroduced as part of the new Chevelle lineup in 1964.
The G-body Monte Carlo, introduced in 1970, also used a platform that was based heavily on the Chevelle platform, although it was lengthened ahead of the firewall.
From 1964 through 1969, GM of Canada sold a modified version of the Chevelle that included a Pontiac-style grille and a LeMans instrument panel, marketed as the Beaumont.
The Malibu was the top-of-the-line model through 1972 and completely replaced the Chevelle nameplate starting with the redesigned and downsized 1978 model year.
The Chevelle Super Sport, or SS, represented Chevrolet's entry into the muscle car battle. In early 1964 and 1965, Chevelles had a Malibu SS badge on the rear quarter panel. Chevelles with the mid-1965 Z-16 option, priced at US$1,501 in 1965,[11] had the emblem on the front fender as well as distinct in-house style numbers: 737 for the hardtop and 767 for the convertible.[12] The $162 Super Sport package was available on the upscale Malibu two-door hardtop and convertible models; the option added special exterior brightwork with SS emblems and the 14-inch full-disc wheel covers from the Impala SS. Inside, the vinyl bucket-seat interior featured a floor console for models equipped with the optional Muncie aluminum four-speed manual or Powerglide two-speed automatic instead of the standard three-speed manual. Malibu SS also came with a four-gauge cluster in place of engine warning lights, and a dash-mounted tachometer was optional.[13] The available 283-cubic-inch four-barrel V8 engine was rated at 220 hp (164 kW), the same rating as the 1957 Chevrolet Power-Pak 283 engine.
The Chevelle SS 396 became a series of its own in 1966 with series/style numbers 13817 and 13867. SS396 sport coupes and convertibles used the same Malibu sport coupe and convertible bodies with reinforced frames and revised front suspension: higher-rate springs, recalibrated shocks, and thicker front stabilizer bar, but with different exterior trim. They also had simulated hood scoops, red-stripe tires, and bright trim moldings. The engines included three 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8s - the standard, rated at 325 hp (242 kW), an optional 360 hp (270 kW), and an optional 375 hp (280 kW) (the mid-horsepower 396 was rated at 360 hp (270 kW) for 1966 and 350 hp (260 kW) thereafter). The SS 396 series lasted from 1966 through 1968 before being relegated to an option package in 1969. The 1966 and 1967 model years were the only two years of the 'strut back' 2-door sport coupe with its own style number, 17.

Fall of 1966, in the Army at "Infantry School" a rich draftee drove his new blue SS 396 Chevelle to school. The Drill Sergeant made him park it across the street so every time we were in formation he could see it, but he only got to drive it TWICE - once there and once back home for storage - until he "came back". Weeks looking at that car several times every day put a clear memory in my head. Your color choice was a nice one. Thanks for the build and thanks for kicking my Chevy memory bank.

Nice. I bought the '66 Chevelle a few months ago, but haven't touched it yet. Now I can't wait. What kind of adhesive are you using?

Regarding the VHT, warm the can before use. If it still does it then swap the nozzle for a known good nozzle from an empty can. It's almost always either temp or nozzle related(I've had a couple cans that just were not pressurized but that's rare).

Hi HPI - I always feel like your future gloss coat is amazing! It looks great! Thank you for the kit reviews and unboxing. I had a question for you, what will you use in place of future/pledge floor polish as it has been discontinued? I have tried to pick up another bottle but the prices have sky-rocketed to up to $65 dollars in some cases, which is beyond a deal breaker for me...I've heard of others using different floor polishes, have you had any luck with alternative products?!?!?!?!?!?!? Thank you in advance!

Can you use floor wax on the paint? I have a bunch of metal cars, but live in a dusty location. They never look as good as new , no matter how good I clean them. I guess once dust hits them, they will never look good again. Car wax did not seem to work, and leaves whitish residues in all crevices. Thank you.

Please, Please, Please start putting videos in playlists. It takes a long time to go through your videos to find a specific one. And using the search function is hit or miss especially if you are not sure what search term to use. I was not aware you reviewed or posted videos on power tools, appliances, anything but models. Please consider it, you could start with the next video and slowly add in the older stuff when you have time. Thanks, RCD
