This is why Iron Maiden is such a unique band! Dave and Adrian are in sync, and they each have their own unique skills, which makes them both sublime guitarists: Dave with his amazing legato and raindrop-like sound. Adrian with his great melodie, making the notes feel alive in a unique way. There are no words to describe it! Their harmonics are magical, and they are surpassed by non! There have been some great guitar-duos through the years. Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Queensrÿche, The Eagles etc. But Dave & Adrian has a magic to them, which I don't think anyone else have been able to capture 🙏
if you were in this show, try to find the bootleg SCALING NEW HEIGHTS with IRON MAIDEN. It was recorded on that day. A great thing to have if you were there!!
There has been many great guitar duos in the past and there still is but no one can beat Adrian Smith&Dave Murray. Beautiful, just beautiful. They are like one soul.
1:16-1:20 --> Lick of "Alexander the Great" solo 1:40-1:44 --> Lick of "The Prophecy" solo ;) Two masters of guitar. Great both, each with their particular style. IMO, along with KK Downing and Glenn Tipton, among the best feeling guitarists, and best guitarists duo.
Alex Cerrato Not exactly; the technique is the same (Adrian's 'one string pick tapping' and Dave's legato parts)... But if you look at it that way I can recognize solos from about every Maiden song in this solo, especially all the minor pentatonic phrases and the twin lead parts ;-)
Why the fuck have they NEVER done this since? With the exception of the ONE tour they brought Transylvania back for, they never did any stand alone guitar solos again...but whyyyy when this is so awesome!?
I loved the whole Somewhere in Time album era, and would've loved to have seen them on tour in '86. Notwithstanding all their achievements before and since, this was their artistic peak IMHO. Others may disagree. Great stuff.
They never recorded in a professional way the tour, you can find only bootlegs. They didn't recorded this tour because of the cost it would be after doing the world slavery tour
Dave and Adrian are the best combination of a guitar solo. Dave are so great to tab and play so........strange but on a good way. Adrian are so Freaking good to hit the notes real..when he play its like..blues. and together ...........FUCKING AWSOME!!!!! UP THE IRONS!!!!!
i was heard this from my cassette over 10 years ago , with wasnt knew about the title , and i've found this now , so beautiful guitar solo , hype , i'm glad of this . Thanksss
this solo appears on the IRON MAIDEN "Scaling new heights with Iron Maiden" Bootleg......recorded in Bristol Colston Hall on the 8th of October 1986. Great thing to have......(i have it!!!!!).
Love the brooding synth laid in the background...so dark 80's it kinda captures a tone I wish we still had. Perfect backing to a perfect dual solo. No one does it like this. But Sir Adrian and Dave
Walking In The Air from the animated kids' movie The Snowman. This is probably the "song" I want Maiden to play live the most now that they've brought back Seventh Son!
I feel the same as you....bought Killers new in '81 and haven't stopped since....through good and especially the bad their music has always made life better.....
i'll never forget that. Iv'e seen them 11 times. I'm from RI, and I hope they at least come to Boston on the new tour. No dates close to here yet. But as far as I can recall: this was the only tour that featured a guitar solo.
OMFG!!! UP THE FUCKIN IRONSSSSSSSS 4EVER!! IRON MAIDEN will ever be the best metal band in this universe and they'll never be forgotten...they are immortal!!! ALL HAIL THESE GODS!!!!
So the other day I tried to truly figure out what my favorite song of all time was, actually no it was right now, but anyways, after many songs i came to conclusion that no song could give me the amount of goosebumps and raise my hairs as if they were electrified as this one does. No lyrics required, these guitars cry like a motherfucker.
@MrCakeeater123 Excellent sound quality! Maiden's been my favorite band/influence since age 13...43 now. Thanks for the years of music to inspire & temporarily escape life's troubles... :)
Najlepszy duet gitarowy wszechczasów, Adrian i Dave jak i reszta kapeli promująca najlepszy jak dla mnie album Somewhere in time, best of the best, najlepsi,up the Irons!🙂
As guitarists ,Dave Murray and Adrian Smith compliment each other's styles and frasing perfectly .In my opinion this is when Maiden was at it's finest . Janick Gers is a good guitar player - but his solos are a little samey for my taste. Don't get me wrong - he puts his heart and soul into a live performance .But with 3 guitar players ? It's a case of too many cooks spoilng the broth.....
For me, this is the ultimate masterpiece of solo music construction.... it puts van halen eruption in second place.... im glad ive been listening to good stuff since i was 8, for today everybody is listening to crap Tv pop video clips Im just 18, and my generation is just...god...specially here in brazil
i wish i could say i have been listning to them at least for as long as you but im only 13. started listning to them when i was 7. i remeber the song and the album like it was yesterday. Run to the hills - Somewhere back in time
@L3O1994 this is extra solo during somewhere on tour 1986-1987 and there is also theme from snowman (classic cartoon shortmovie-song walking in the air)
glad you're going, that's awesome. And you certainly can't go wrong with those albums. It's way too hard for me to decide on best albums. However, after much deliberation: I concluded The Trooper, Rime Ancient Mariner & Alexander the Great are my 3 favorite songs.
The best guitar duo in the world....
Alienscanner only glenn and kk are better
fuck u, judas sucks
Agree
Yes, the best guitar duo in the world.
No, KK and Tipton are the best guitar duo in the world!
we are lucky that someone recoreded this solo
Massive Maiden fan and never heard this before. Masterpiece!

Very legendary guitars number one.... Dave e adrian
couldn't agree more
They should bring this back for the future past tour.
Saw this live in Bristol 8th Oct 1986 and it was awesome the whole crowd just went silent in Awe!
if you were in this show, try to find the bootleg SCALING NEW HEIGHTS with IRON MAIDEN. It was recorded on that day. A great thing to have if you were there!!
I can imagine the situation the crowd felt at that time....pindrop silence
It must have been a great gig. I love that era of the band. Cheers
There has been many great guitar duos in the past and there still is but no one can beat Adrian Smith&Dave Murray. Beautiful, just beautiful. They are like one soul.
1:16-1:20 --> Lick of "Alexander the Great" solo

;) Two masters of guitar. Great both, each with their particular style.
IMO, along with KK Downing and Glenn Tipton, among the best feeling guitarists, and best guitarists duo.
haha nice1, good ear!
the prophecy was released after this was recorded, but your ear is awesone anyway
Alex Cerrato

1:02-1:05 Lick from Heaven Can Wait solo...
3:06-3:46 'Snowman' by Rainbow off the "Bent Out Of Shape" album
Synth guitars on the Somewhere in Time era. Dave and Adrian are the best!
It sounded like Synth but it’s actually the GK250ML amps they embraced for that album and your. The Chorus in the amp has 3D sounds.
They need to redo this on the book of souls tour
I´m lost for words....THIS is why Maiden rules, a fantastic guitar work and performed by two of the best....absolutely magnificent !!
Why the fuck have they NEVER done this since? With the exception of the ONE tour they brought Transylvania back for, they never did any stand alone guitar solos again...but whyyyy when this is so awesome!?
Cos Janick would have to join in and it'd be buggered!
Half of maiden fans loves somewhere in time era . Cmon go back !!!!!!!
Only half?
that's why they made a somewhere back in time tour
@@Br4m76 that wasn’t enough man!!! They gotta play caught somewhere , Alexander and loneliness distance ... but I know I’m asking too much
@@garystrat999only half of it
@ can’t please everyone
The two best guitarist of the world alive for me, dave is my favorites !
The guy with the camera has no idea who is playing most of the time..
I loved the whole Somewhere in Time album era, and would've loved to have seen them on tour in '86. Notwithstanding all their achievements before and since, this was their artistic peak IMHO. Others may disagree. Great stuff.
i always wonder why they don't put out a dvd with footage of 86 tour, it was such a great setlist and sound :(
Steve Harris still regrets it
They never recorded in a professional way the tour, you can find only bootlegs.
They didn't recorded this tour because of the cost it would be after doing the world slavery tour
It's a real shame, would have loved to hear that entire album live .
this is IMO the best iron maiden years.. 86... Somewhere in time is THE album!
Murray one of my 5 most favorite guitarist
Dave and Adrian are the best combination of a guitar solo. Dave are so great to tab and play so........strange but on a good way. Adrian are so Freaking good to hit the notes real..when he play its like..blues. and together ...........FUCKING AWSOME!!!!! UP THE IRONS!!!!!
Dave's tone is just incredible. How on earth does he get that?
OpnDoarPlcy Chorus, Delay, Reverb and the most important... His smooth legato.
Neck pickup tone down.
neck pickup.
Synthesizer, reverb, delay, equalization, chorus neck pickup humbucker and tone down.
It's like water
And this is why Iron Maiden is one of the greatest Metal bands ever.
*THE best
The 80's were soooooo great!❤ I wish I could go back and re live them all over again....."but I can't go back I know."
A living proof why Iron Maiden are unrivaled in the metal genre.......two guitar virtuosos, and two of the best .......
The sheer Perfection of theese two guys playing.....a magical proof of why Iron Maiden are unrivaled in metal music.....
Hearing this masterpiece I fell like I’m in heaven
Never get tired of listening to his!
Just Awesome!
there's some WALKING IN THE AIR in there too...
+Erik the Great That's where this came from.
the best band ever existed.. omg so .. beautiful
i was heard this from my cassette over 10 years ago , with wasnt knew about the title , and i've found this now , so beautiful guitar solo , hype , i'm glad of this . Thanksss
Wow I saw this for real all the way back to 1986 talk about time travel
Maiden should do more of instrumental such as this.
"Mr.Dave Murray and Mr.Adrian Smith...
Great Performance...
Amazing..!!"
🎸🎸🤘🤘🤘👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏😎😎😎
The Guitar Duellists :-D 2:30 - Victim Of Changes Tribute? Beautiful solo by both. But I prefer Adrians style a bit more than Daves
Thomas Kaba true kind of sounds like priest
240p never sounded so good!
this solo appears on the IRON MAIDEN "Scaling new heights with Iron Maiden" Bootleg......recorded in Bristol Colston Hall on the 8th of October 1986. Great thing to have......(i have it!!!!!).
For those of you who didn't know, the ending melody is Walking In The Air from The Snowman. Cheers!
Love the brooding synth laid in the background...so dark 80's it kinda captures a tone I wish we still had. Perfect backing to a perfect dual solo.
No one does it like this.
But Sir Adrian and Dave
I had an EARGASM!!!
Walking In The Air from the animated kids' movie The Snowman.
This is probably the "song" I want Maiden to play live the most now that they've brought back Seventh Son!
These guys the reason why Iron maiden is the best band of heavy metal all time
Walking on Glass is amazing, too bad its not oficially recorded.
thanks for uploading this video
Dave Walk on the water
1:17 Rime of the Ancient Mariner solo from Flight 666 :)
No, Alexander the great lick.
@@fabiangaleano1916 actually BOTH are right.
The best guitar duo in the world that I love. They are both really great, I love it.It's like a guitar from a devil and an angel coming together.
Melhor dupla de guitarristas da história do metal
this is wondrous... 🥲😢 very touchy
Fantastic. Very emotive and intense piece.
The best era of Iron Maiden
So many metal f@9s would say you are wrong, however I agree that this is their best era.
I agree, however I grew up in that era (1980's) and then, they were better than most, and incredible to see live. My generation were fortunate.
1:50 gives me chills. such an eargasmic guitar tone
I wish Dave and Adrian would play this again.
Such an atmospheric sound
Absolutely right. They forget about this part of the show. Also Drums, bass solos and instrumentals are so important to the live show too.You said it.
I feel the same as you....bought Killers new in '81 and haven't stopped since....through good and especially the bad their music has always made life better.....
epic!! the greatest two guitarists on earth
twin guitars. just perfect!
Around this time I had a Roland gp8 and it helped me get a lot of this awesome Reverb and delays.
i'll never forget that. Iv'e seen them 11 times. I'm from RI, and I hope they at least come to Boston on the new tour. No dates close to here yet. But as far as I can recall: this was the only tour that featured a guitar solo.

I love that they play Walking In The Air at one point during this.

The reason I always liked this is because most every solo they play is from one Iron Maiden's best songs.

There were some bad things about the 80's
This was one of the better manifestations of the decade.
glad you're going, that's awesome. And you certainly can't go wrong with those albums. It's way too hard for me to decide on best albums. However, after much deliberation: I concluded The Trooper, Rime Ancient Mariner & Alexander the Great are my 3 favorite songs.
