Gotta hand it to the devs; they could have ran with all our money, but instead they reinvested into the game to continually and greatly improve it. This is impressive even more when you consider the fact Hello Games was the most hated game developer for awhile. They made mistakes but they have done a great effort to rectify them. We gamers should be receptive and open to that.

I dislike how dishonest they were when they were hyping the game, but I can have some respect for a company that could have easily just run with the money but didn't. Hello Games still did far better with NMS than Bohemia did with DayZ Standalone, which STILL suffers from bugs it had on day 1 and is still a half-broken mess with far more bugs and glitches than NMS has.
The only reason why they've added to the game is because they didn't want to Kill of their company. If players didn't demand more from them, trust me, they wouldn't of touched it.
When I asked Dan Stapleton, IGN's No Man's Sky NEXT reviewer, on Twitter why he didn't mention the story, the missions, the character customization, or other improvements to the game, he said: "It's a review, not a list of features. I focused on the stuff I felt was most important." Well, DAN, after seeing Gamespot's review of NEXT, I can only conclude that A) you're a bad reviewer or B) you're didn't play the game enough to know about the notable additions.
Dan Stapleton is a joke, he said on a tweet that you couldn't even manually save in NMS Next. That is all you need to know. He also said you can't run from space battles unless you go into a space station. He doesn't even know how to play NMS and it shows in his review and tweets.
So in other words, he only played like forty-five minutes of it, didn't even attempt to understand much about it, and just decided to flap his hands on a keyboard. Sounds like typical IGN.

I cannot stop playing this. It needs to be looked at for what it is, people cant expect a fallout or borderlands. Its almost its own genre. You can spend 50+ hours doing numerous different things. You can go off building bases for 50+ hours, you can focus on just upgrading your mining tool,, exosuit, and exocraft for 50 hours. I get lost for hours on end just chasing species or chasing recipes and blueprints to craft high end items/materials to sell to traders or at the space station, you can focus for 50+ hours just working on freighters and freighter missions. The scope and sense of wonder is amazing. I prefer playing solo though, i still dont fully understand the point of multiplayer other than just seeing things together.

This is an amazing review by Gamespot. The reviewer definitely understands NMS and what it stands for from the beginning and what the subsequent updates added into the game still keeping the original soul of the game alive.
You will hate it too. Game crashes unpredictable, objectives and missions are broken. Sometimes your wanted level doesn't end at zero seconds. Good game, horrible devs.
Out of everybody i know, i am literally the only one who never lost hope for No Mans Sky. I'v always looked at a games potential instead of what we get at launch, so i am so excited to see how far No Mans Sky will go in the future. Such an amazing review! absolutely loved it.
great review. i agree with it. been playing it since day one back in August 2016, each update has made it better, the NEXT update made it amazing. i still have the same save game since day 0, and it works great... besides 1 mission "restore base archives" and the base floors which for some reason are too low compared to objects that connect to the walls making things float in side, and the alien races at the booths go through the floor. everything else is working normal... now its off to mine 3000 paraffinium, 4000 pure ferrite and 3000 Copper to fix a Vector Class ship i found thanks to Artemis...

Idea pitch for the game! Thumbs up of you agree! Machine themed planets that act as sentinel hubs. Max reinforcements when you enter orbit. Only way to remove it is to scan for the MASSIVE sentinel base and destroy the system. Upon doing do gives you massive loot and some new upgrades (maybe new ship upgrades or customizations for said ships and vehicles) It would be a planetary raid that would be easier with our newfound wanderers
It needs interstellar travel without galaxy map (just setting the course and flying towards another star...for days if necessary ). Needs implemented orbits of planets . Must have space monsters. I would like to study various stars and phenomenon like scanning them or using them as source for fuel and rare elements.
Orbits were removed because they confused players and at times increased travel time. Also, no game allows you to just straight up fly to another star system without a galaxy map. Elite Dangerous gives the illusion of that with it's timer but if you fly to another system in that game there's nothing there but empty space.
I personally think that the Next Update was a HUGE step in the right direction. Something I think would be a fantastic addition to the game for the following dlc would be Cities on planets. The plates seem very desolate at the moment and cities would help planets feel more welcoming and would make the entire game a bit more substantial. Just my thoughts.
This game is pretty much still in development. It's like they released an alpha version of the game 2 years ago and charged full price for it and now are still not done with beta. But the game does have a lot of potential it seems so hey if they ever finish the game it looks like there'll be solid gameplay.
I would love to see a combat update for this and before anyone says “it’s not like that” then why did they add the Swarm aliens? It would be cool to have randomly generated dungeons, more animal enemies on planets and maybe another enemy faction to add the three enemy factions already in game
I was going to college for video game development and started building this game without knowledge that the first was getting ready to be released. Talk about heart broken. In hindsight i probably should've been more aware of upcoming releases and games in development. I was so excited when i was brainstorming ideas. It all sounded so cool in my head and on paper, i was thinking the possibilities were endless, and there were so many ways you could make this a certified badass game. Im just glad they figured it out on the second go round.
Just to be clear when i say build this game i mean a first year students brainstorming and very rudimentary elements of what wouldve been my version, i wasnt working on nms

A word of caution: if you've never played this game before and are considering purchasing it, this is a game that requires patience. However, there are a few basic pointers that will make your journey less tedious and more varied: Purchase basic necessities from space stations. There is nothing more frustrating to the impatient player than mining rocks and gathering plants for 20-minute stretches. This can be partially remedied--or sometimes circumvented entirely--by visiting the local space station, finding the galactic market terminal (the round glowing machine on the wall) and purchasing hundreds of units of ferrite dust, sodium and sodium nitrate, oxygen, chromatic metal, uranium, and whatever other useful resources are available. Selection will vary depending on what solar system you are in, but if you purchase some discounted trade commodities before warping to the next system you will often make enough profit selling them to acquire the resources you need. Also, at the first available opportunity purchase and craft the warp drive upgrades you need to visit all the possible star systems. Why? Because if you go to the galactic map, you'll notice that you are not allowed to visit red, green or blue stars at first. Take a wild guess where all the more interesting planets are. Yep, you got it in one. I get irritated by some user reviews of the game because it is obvious the player didn't do this and then they discourage other people from purchasing the game because they believe the game's variety is rather limited.

I just bought the game. I was a bit skeptical at first as I remembered the reviews at launch. I’m very happy that I did get it though because it has shown me that some things can start bad, but become much better.
I am having a great time with the game, but ou should have mentioned the games performance issues. Constant FPS drops and mission glitches are almost game breaking right now.
Hey can someone in the comments help: i have 7 bases with teleporters all built in them, ive traveled to 37 systems and have been to each space station. Yet i still cant use the teleporters? It always says its only available to more experienced warpers or whatever. How can i use them?

Great game but sill buggy - I've lost the Artemis story line completely. You can suggest ideas for improvements to Hello Games on their website. I've made a few suggestions such as a "Buy All" button next to each item in the Galactic Trading Terminals, so you can easily buy all stock for each item with one click, rather than holding down the arrow for 10 seconds.
My one friend has over 1700+ hours on steam and still plays it almost every day. Most of those hours were on ONE save file. Really shows how much you can do in this game without getting bored or running out of things to do.
Brilliant rewiew, playing it right now, and im enjoying it. Its a slow grindy game but the exploration is so cool and addictive. :D Its not for everyone but its really good for the right people. :)
Good review. I never played the first release but started playing Next a week ago on Xbox. I think it is a fantastic game. It is very dynamic and when I have been playing there is always something to do. I really do not understand the hate for it. There is complaints about the grind. I have not found it to be much of a grind. Complaints about the UI. Ok the UI can be a bit clunky and there are a few other niggles in the game but I just work around them because that is all they are, niggles. I guarantee in 2 years time when the game is 10 times better than what it is now people will still complain.
What I cannot agree more with is stated at 5:57 "The primary gimmick -- is awe." When I just started playing, that awe had got me hooked on the game. This review has stated possibly all the enjoyable aspects of the most recent update. Also, this review has been thought out and structured way better than the IGN review. However, I will not dismiss the IGN review, if it even could be called that. While GS has pointed out all the awe-inducing and mesmerising parts of the update, IGN has pointed out the negatives of it, and I agree with those too. Having played above 100 hours, I will say for my first 50 hours I had admired the game's unique take on alien worlds, organisms, language, and (tattered) culture. After that milestone the novelty of it all started fading out in colour for me. This review slyly pointed out how base-building is among the least memorable additions to the game, right at the end of the video. That is where IGN's review picks up; Namely, that is where the heavy grinding takes place. To build a base in the recent update has to be one of the most grind-intensive things in game, where even menial tasks are made more difficult than necessary. I had picked the game up partly in the hopes the base-building aspect would be fun. After a while, it became apparant to me it was not the case, just like this video correctly pointed out. P.S I will say pre-emptively that the Creative mode does remove the grind, but if you wanted to play Survival mode and still build bases, the problems won't go away. Creative mode only accentuates the flaws that exist in Survival mode, and it tries to cover them up, not solve them.

I don't see this update as this incredible redemption. It's the same game with improved features and upgraded visuals. Expanded story. However, still monotonous and multiplayer feels pointless and empty to me. For me, it just doesn't feel fun reloading a new group of planets over and over just to mine and collect resources just to do it again. There isn't enough engagement. That being said, I still enjoy the mystical atmospheric chill experience at times, and commanding a fleet of frigates from your own space hub is awesome.

Purchase basic necessities from space stations. There is nothing more frustrating to the impatient player than mining rocks and gathering plants for 20-minute stretches. This can be partially remedied--or sometimes circumvented entirely--by visiting the local space station, finding the galactic market terminal (the round glowing machine on the wall) and purchasing hundreds of units of ferrite dust, sodium and sodium nitrate, oxygen, chromatic metal, uranium, and whatever other useful resources are available. Selection will vary depending on what solar system you are in, but if you purchase some discounted trade commodities before warping to the next system you will often make enough profit selling them to acquire the resources you need.
Also, at the first available opportunity purchase and craft the warp drive upgrades you need to visit all the possible star systems. Why? Because if you go to the galactic map, you'll notice that you are not allowed to visit red, green or blue stars at first. Take a wild guess where all the more interesting planets are. Yep, you got it in one. I get irritated by some user reviews of the game because it is obvious the player didn't do this and then they discourage other people from purchasing the game because they believe the game's variety is rather limited.
may pick this up now. don't have my psn account active for online play though so may be stuck playing solo
All I would want them to add is new types of enemies or maybe like rare dangerous alien creatures that hunt you down if you get too close

I just bought the game. I was a bit skeptical at first as I remembered the reviews at launch. I’m very happy that I did get it though because it has shown me that some things can start bad, but become much better.

I am having a great time with the game, but ou should have mentioned the games performance issues. Constant FPS drops and mission glitches are almost game breaking right now.

Hey can someone in the comments help: i have 7 bases with teleporters all built in them, ive traveled to 37 systems and have been to each space station. Yet i still cant use the teleporters? It always says its only available to more experienced warpers or whatever. How can i use them?
Next update should be a space battle update or make it were we can make factions and take over solar systems.

Great game but sill buggy - I've lost the Artemis story line completely. You can suggest ideas for improvements to Hello Games on their website. I've made a few suggestions such as a "Buy All" button next to each item in the Galactic Trading Terminals, so you can easily buy all stock for each item with one click, rather than holding down the arrow for 10 seconds.
So much potential. I hope it eventually makes it.
My one friend has over 1700+ hours on steam and still plays it almost every day. Most of those hours were on ONE save file. Really shows how much you can do in this game without getting bored or running out of things to do.

Brilliant rewiew, playing it right now, and im enjoying it. Its a slow grindy game but the exploration is so cool and addictive. :D Its not for everyone but its really good for the right people. :)

Good review. I never played the first release but started playing Next a week ago on Xbox. I think it is a fantastic game. It is very dynamic and when I have been playing there is always something to do. I really do not understand the hate for it. There is complaints about the grind. I have not found it to be much of a grind. Complaints about the UI. Ok the UI can be a bit clunky and there are a few other niggles in the game but I just work around them because that is all they are, niggles.
I guarantee in 2 years time when the game is 10 times better than what it is now people will still complain.
What I cannot agree more with is stated at 5:57 "The primary gimmick -- is awe." When I just started playing, that awe had got me hooked on the game. This review has stated possibly all the enjoyable aspects of the most recent update. Also, this review has been thought out and structured way better than the IGN review.
However, I will not dismiss the IGN review, if it even could be called that. While GS has pointed out all the awe-inducing and mesmerising parts of the update, IGN has pointed out the negatives of it, and I agree with those too. Having played above 100 hours, I will say for my first 50 hours I had admired the game's unique take on alien worlds, organisms, language, and (tattered) culture. After that milestone the novelty of it all started fading out in colour for me. This review slyly pointed out how base-building is among the least memorable additions to the game, right at the end of the video. That is where IGN's review picks up; Namely, that is where the heavy grinding takes place. To build a base in the recent update has to be one of the most grind-intensive things in game, where even menial tasks are made more difficult than necessary. I had picked the game up partly in the hopes the base-building aspect would be fun. After a while, it became apparant to me it was not the case, just like this video correctly pointed out.
P.S I will say pre-emptively that the Creative mode does remove the grind, but if you wanted to play Survival mode and still build bases, the problems won't go away. Creative mode only accentuates the flaws that exist in Survival mode, and it tries to cover them up, not solve them.
and to remind people that disagreeing with others does not make their points invalid, I will reaffirm this GS' review is excellently produced and written. If you like the game, by all means play it. I dislike it for the reasons I've stated. State your opinions clearly if you disagree.

I don't see this update as this incredible redemption. It's the same game with improved features and upgraded visuals. Expanded story. However, still monotonous and multiplayer feels pointless and empty to me.
For me, it just doesn't feel fun reloading a new group of planets over and over just to mine and collect resources just to do it again. There isn't enough engagement.
That being said, I still enjoy the mystical atmospheric chill experience at times, and commanding a fleet of frigates from your own space hub is awesome.
I'm completely sold. This looks like such a good game now, gonna be relaxing just going through deep space.
