9:18 My bro used to beat me in Aoe 2 all the time so I made a custom scenario that looked like a regular black forest( his favorite map) little did he now I made siege onagers spawn and attack him once every 10 minutes game time. LOL
@@sralmendrita It was hard to hide it. he also just moved his base and still beat me in imperial age. the onagers would all go towards his original base location
These maps really pushing and expanding the limits of AoE2. I love them. All we need now is a combination of natural disaster and tiny maps for ultimate chaos. 😁
Really love how creative these maps are. Some really cool game modes and ideas that would be fun to see go official, maybe get some quality assets made for them; that could make for some great community or custom lobby games.
I wish they could make it so the water recedes (turns to land tiles) and reveals key resources that everyone would scramble to get before the water comes back as a tsunami and destroys everything.
It would probably harder to do than it seems, but it would be funny to attach this idea to your exploding kings and finally make the exploding king tsunami after a water death come true
This map is so sick! I hope that someday it will be extended into bigger version for community games. By the way, I've got a thought about "hard mode" tsunami, in which timer is changed at the match start by 0-2 minutes, so there is less prediction or wrong weather forecast for players who made their builds from precise timing.
Apocalypse mode pilgrim diplo. Tsunamis on the water, volcano in the main land corner, ice age on the edges, earthquakes on islands and/or middle of the mainland, and tornados/water sprouts near the shore. Will players snipe each other first, or will nature take them all?
tsunamis become dangerous when the wave breaks. shallow water can be affected too. i hoped that here deep water and hills are safe while the lowlands and shallow water are swept. also the map is done in a way that a landing on the opponent's island is always safe which means that in high level play the tsunamis probably wouldn't do anything.
As someone who has found you this month, I am thankful for the algorithm recommending you. I have never played a game of AoE once in my life and yet your commentary is captivating and enjoyable. Thank you for the content. (Been watching videos from as far back as 3-4 years)
As far as I can see how the tsunami works is it sweep everything on the sea level, and get block by terrain elevation. So the 6 small gold/relic islands are hit because they are on the same elevation as the water, but the 2 forward islands block part of it thank to elevation. The embankment on each player's mainland also block it (since it is +1 elevation). When playing against the AI I built outposts on the far side of the big island and can see the waves pretty soon.
It's just a typical game of "bullying the AI" because they didn't practice the map and couldn't leave their island. Oh if you are asking for how to download the map, it is in "Dynamic Maps Pack I" on mod.
This would be cool on a larger "White Cliffs of Dover" type of map, but with a lot of randomization of where the tsunami strikes, then you would have the sort of weather that sank the Spanish Armada that was attacking the Elizabethian empire.
I always loved making little campaign-like scenarios, there was one I was obsessed with recreating over and over trying to improve it that was a migration style map where you start on a little island and have to attack a big mainland. The enemy would get a stupid number of reinforcements at the edge of the map, and thinking back on it if a higher level AI was set it was probably not winnable haha... Never anything as insane as a moving wave though, that's on another level!
I’d like to see the tsunami more randomized so people don’t know it’s comin, and maybe more frequently too. In a big community game, it would be so much fun to watch the chaos that it’d cause
this map gave me an idea for a minigame map kings only and the death pops up in a random grid shape all across the map last player standing wins its all about guessing which spot will be the safe spot
For those interested, Guaymallén de Fruta is the best alfajor in Argentina. Guaymallén is the brand and "de fruta" is the flavor, which in this specific case means a filling of quince jam for the alfajor, which is also coated in (fake) white chocolate. I loved it but I can't eat it anymore, and I really miss it.
I hope more players try out maps like these and the "fun" or "crazy" games get sent to you instead of just the first game available. Just want more of this like we have tons of exploding kings. Bye mixing exploding king with this would be awesome too
you should overlay a text “to avoid spoilers skip to NNN”. this is almost like a movie review haha, where some viewers want to know more than the players, and some want to see whatever the weird thing that happens, just happen
I used to make LOTR scenarios for my sisters and I to play, we had big LAN parties where we all played together. We ruined it when we discovered the cheats 😂
This is so cool! I've always though dynamic map events would be awesome to have in AoE2, but I thought the engine would probably not support it, being 20 years old and all. I hope the devs are paying attention.
Seems a bit unfair that the tsunami hits red's shore in the middle but not blue's. Only red lost fishing ships to the tsunami because it only hits red's side.
ok, this is so far the coolest of the disaster maps! It would be cool if we could see some more games on maps like those. Do these maps only work for 1v1 or can they be optmized for maybe up to 8 players?
Red needed to build a castle next to the gold and wood on his main island close to red. And then hop in and out with a transport ship with some carambit warriors to raid blue eco. In island maps like this, you need to make very early landfall and or castle drop the shoreline so you can island hop easily. Unless you already have water control.
Maybe should make extra (non-fishing) docks in the path of the wave. Let the enemy surround, trying to take them out, counter attack after the wave hits.
Is there/will there ever be a way to download these types of maps? This is such a cool idea for AOE and it’s crazy that a game this old can still have new elements added to it like this that are so fun and interesting
I feel like the tsunami should come at random times. Blue was obviously prepared every 10 minutes and red wasn't, made the game a bit one-sided. Reds shore was affected a lot more as well
Looks like the Tsunami's are affected by land elevation. If that's the case, I'd be curious to see this gimmick on an even larger map with lots of hills. Hope to see more of this. Of all the disaster gimmicks I like this one the most. This got the gears in my brain turning. Maybe the map can be scripted where the tsunami's randomly come in from different directions. Otherwise its possible that whoever get's the high ground first most likely wins that spot.
I made a 1v1 map just last month that has gold and stone that never run out for both sides as well as a swamp funnel through middle with an effect that slows the people in the swamp. I added a trigger that adds longbow men to make at town centers for all civs but the low bow men have 1 hp and double range. finally in the back of each base is a bamboo forest that never runs out ether. each side has a neutral trade as well. really fun map.
"it looks SO cool" I think T90 has AOE goggles. I love the game too, play it all the time, but that looks AWFUL 11, like when Windows 98 freezes or you win a game of solitaire. I mean it in a good way, because it's so neat it can even happen. absolutely no disrespect to the creator, it's a clever workaround

3:19 "There are waterfall effects you can get from the Editor" - yes T90, we did get them from your editor, thanks Hardy 11
Looks like it doesn't get up the hills but will go over flat land
yaah agreed
To be more specific, it looks like each waterfall dies when on elevation=2.

@Dorfjunge Yeah it's pretty obvious, even from a real life physics perspective

In real life tsunamis are pretty safe on the water and dangerous on land.

Cool map, I would say the corners need to be connected by shallows so you can have some comeback with land if the water gets one sided
Between volcano, earthquake and tsunami I think this is my favorite map, the wave is sooo cool
This looks nuts, wonder how high ranking players would play maps like these

It looks like the waves are destroyed by Elevation
I wish there was a Gaia trade dock in a spot that doesn't get hit by the tsunami so trade cogs were a thing too

The hardy edit was great
I think the map not having passable water between the players, really limits the potential for gameplay. Fun video though, v cool to see more effects.
I can't wait for someone to implement this into exploding kings so the explosion still does something if the king dies in water
Would be so much better if the timing intervals were more random-though I don’t know if that’s possible from a coding standpoint
Can stone- or fortified walls stop a tsunami? Might be useful for those small islands in the late game.
