Out of the covers, Unforgiven and new Unforgiven II are really beautifull, and more classical songs. And of course, the grande Nothing else matters. I was lucky to see them couple years ago and must say it was one of the most beautifull things i have witnessed when lights of whole arena was put off and middle of the darkness is one man sitting on a chair in spotlight playing solo parts of Nothing else matters and doing it momentarily so gently and quietly you can hear a pin drop in top tier acoustics concert hall. They have huge dynamic and range from eye-watering chilling softness to riot like madnes and they do the transition really nicely and subtly audience doesnt even notice how they are forced to listen and concentrate. They are not like saying it out loud "Hey we have this nice part coming, can you be bit more quiet so everybody hears"
These musicians are so good. I had never heard this before and I absolutely loved it. Coincidentally, my favorite Epica song has a version featuring Apocalyptica. It's an entirely different feel than this one, but so lovely. EPICA feat. APOCALYPTICA - Rivers (Live At The AFAS LIVE).
It definitely takes something to be swinging a cello around like that! 🤟 But I really like this composition and how they approached it. I'll have to check out this Epica track too 👍
My first time hearing Apocalyptica was their cover of Rammstein's "Seemann" feat. Nina Hagen (Germany's Godmother of Punk), which I really liked but this one, with even more focus on the Cello's was fantastic. Didn't knew the song (considering myself a metal noob) but now I obviously have to check out the original. It's always funny to me when I hear people (mostly reactors [mostly from overseas]) stating traditional instruments don't belong into metal. I'm always thinking "Well even I know that's not true and I know sh!t about metal". Fortunately, these people are in the minority, while everyone else enjoys their bagpipe metal, violin metal, cello metal, mandolin metal, harp metal...
Oh... If you haven't heard Master Of Puppets by Metallica, then you are in for a treat. It's arguably their career highlight! Although, there are many Metallica tracks which are considered some of the greatest thrash metal songs of all time. As for whether certain instruments belong in metal or not? I call bullshit! Classical music is the origin of heavy metal and how many instruments are in an orchestra? Think I've made my point 😁
Hey, Melvin reacting to my favourite band of all time! I stopped watching the football game to see this 😂 I first heard them back in 1999 and later they were my first concert! I love these guys so much, their music is like nothing else - especially their own instrumental pieces. Although "Plays Metallica Vol. 2" (their 10th album) is a challenge to that statement. And I never thought I'd say that for a cover album, it's just that brilliant. For their take on solos, check out their performance of "One" from Olavinlinna 2018 and also the new version of "One" they just dropped a month or so ago. I'll be seeing them live for the fourth time in autumn, but no meowing on this song or any other, I only meow when listening to Guns'n'Roses
You stopped the football game? I'm honoured 😊 Hope I did the band justice! I actually thought about doing 'One' and it was a tough call between this and 'Master Of Puppets' but simply had to go with the latter out of personal choice. I'm a big G n R fan too (my top 5 bands of all time I reckon) and there is plenty of meowing moments. But if you haven't meowed to Metallica, you are missing out 😜
@@melvinthinks I do believe you did them justice, from your commentary I infer you recognise how special they are. If you want to dive deeper into their music and aren't afraid of instrumental compositions, I suggest you listen to their albums in chronological order - whenever you have the time and headspace to do so - and follow their musical evolution. And I do believe they have at least one show in the UK this autumn, it's always worth it to see them live. Just saying 😂 I am European, so when I say football, I mean the thing Americans call "socker". I was watching the Euro, but I'm not a committed fan of any team , and for me personally music is more fun.
For some reason I thought you were American 🤔 I have no idea why I made that assumption during our dialogues. My apologies. If you don't mind me asking, which wonderful European country are your from? Because you grammar is excellent 👌
@@melvinthinks No worries, confusions happen. I grew up in Bulgaria and am currently living in Germany. Thanks a lot for the compliment, I love learning languages and I love speaking English, it's always great to be acknowledged by native speakers.
I find it hard to believe you have never heard Apocalyptica. 😮 They are so great. They actually feature a ton of artists including Corey Taylor, Joe from Gojira, Brent Smith, Cristina from Lacuna Coil. They are so great their original instrumentals are amazing too! "Farewell" works up the emotions pretty hard.
I've probably heard them years ago unknowingly but definitely none of their Metallica covers. Generally speaking, I don't seek out cover bands and things like that. I get a lot of people from time to time asking me to react to bands doing covers of famous songs and I'm like "But I want to hear their own songwriting and originality". I guess Apocalyptica are an exception to that rule 😬
@@melvinthinks I understand that. There is only a hand full of bands I found through their covers. I found Apocalyptica through their song with Corey Taylor and been in love ever since. It was a plus that they covered Metallica on a freaking cello! I like hearing the original stuff as well but there is something special when a band or artist does a cover but in their own way. I'm addicted to Will Ramos covers. He did a cover of "Recreant" by Chelsea Grin and I listen to that more than the original now and I love Chelsea Grin. 😂
@@melvinthinks oh dude once you get me talking about music I won't shut up. i turn into the nerdiest of nerds. I'm excited about Chelsea Grin reaction. Gonna let you pick where to start. "Recreant" is their best but I would recommend a high quality live version post 2017 because then you can see Tom Barber, their current singer, perform it. (Edit: the live video that is good is called Recreant live! From The Path of Suffering Tour) No disrespect to Alex the original guy but Tom is top notch. "Origin of Sin" I think is the video from their most recent albums. Fun fact: see above when I said Will Ramos of Lorna Shore covered "Recreant"? This is funny because Tom Barber, current Chelsea Grin vocalist, was the ORIGINAL Lorna Shore vocalist. See you can't shut me up mate 😂😂😂 cuz now I cane also go on for an hour about Tom's other project Darko US 😂 just can't be stopped.
Ahhhh - this is interesting to know. I sort of lined up a live recording of Hostage from 2018 (assume this is Tom Barber era) from the Vans Warped Tour. It's had about 5m views so was hoping this would be decent quality. But then I questioned whether this era was the best choice, because none of them are original members post 2017. But you've swayed me to stick to my guns. What do you reckon, Hostage or Recreant first?
You really never heard Apocalyptica before?! They are too big to miss! But you are catching up! There's another one you need to catch up 😉 BTW, Kfir Ochaion does loads of covers with the guitar doing the "vocals" too, which is awesome www.youtube.com/@KfirOchaion/videos

I wholeheartedly disagree. The sound isn't trash at all. Live performances are so much more appealing to react to vs an MV or audio track, because you get to witness the band in all their glory and they can't hide behind fancy production or visuals. You get to feel them and if a band can't cut it live, then I'm not interested. Yes - from time to time it makes sense to react to an MV or audio track in isolation. I've done a fair few. But it will always be my preference to check out a live recording, and there are many great live recordings on TH-cam. I wouldn't say "it's always trash sound." Far from it.
