Someone should interview a former grader cgc/ cbcs, to find out how they really do their job. All of the inside dirt …. That would be really interesting

If the grader had a fight with his wife or hungover by being so depressed he makes shit money grading to his metrics of xxx books a day= bad grade. Grader who just got laid, won the lotto, his team won the championship = 9.8!
      Boom......

I've only relatively recently gotten "into" slabbed comics. As a very light collector with a limited budget, I have usually just picked up cheap books that appealed to me in some fashion. Several years ago I started familiarizing myself with grading and found the onlinegradingtool to be very helpful. It's not an end-all for establishing grades but it was very helpful to me in slowing me down and making sure I attended to the details of grading. It's nowhere as comprehensive as the CGC guide but it does identify 32, or so, book defects with variations on severity and made me look at things like page quality and degrees of scuffing and color lift, and extent of color-breaks and creases. Again, not the best guide, but for familiarizing myself with the vast plethora of minutiae it couldn't have been more helpful, in my opinion. What a gift you're giving to the community. Your generosity and enthusiasm coupled with your intelligent presentation (my wife and I think you're pretty durn smart) are a delight. Thanks for this and the absolute banger of a Whatnot show coming up. Holy hell. Take good care. Happy holidays to you and yours and the staff at Bry's.

Great video. I appreciate the emphasis on steps 1, 2, and 3 before immediately judging the defects. I have seen a lot of videos that just start talking about the defects and hearing you emphasize those others as first steps helps me see how they are critical

My dad was/is a big marvel fan, so he has hundreds of silver age comics. They’re all in pretty rough condition (haven’t gotten any of em graded, but they’re all probably around a 2 lol), but I love being able to go through and read them! My favorites are probably fantastic four #48 (ofc) and silver surfer #4 (the cover is so cool).

Wow 😲 very enlightening video, great content and step by step instrumental on what to look for in grading books. Excellent. And yes in certain years such as a 50's book compared to a 70's book may look different because if I'm right some companies when putting out their books didn't use or have a gloss for their books, they just printed out the books as is . Gonna look at my books more thoroughly now. So I guess you'll be Santa Bry on December 21 at What Not huh 😂. Great video Bry. Take care.

Great video! Would love to see you grade a set of raw books of varying grades using the CGC guide’s standards and then compare your grades to those of CGC in an unboxing.
