Major respect for Matt Johnson's playing here - this is a master of dynamics who in the absolutely freaking classic Montreal show a few days ago went from Zen zone to flat-out rabid destroyer in the blink of an eye and kept all musicality intact - LOVE!!!
I just saw her at Ottawa Bluesfest without any prior knowledge of her. God damn, this shit is amazing live. It's like if you mixed Devo with Led Zeppelin, Nine Inch Nails and Nirvana.
I prefer to be amazed by "This Force of Nature's" take on your Hero's through the lens of the past!(yours)Im a 78 yr boyish man.My wife approves of this particular Goddess as well as Anne Marie! Each So deep and lovely Jivegurudavysez:Love may be just another four letter word, but if you go all in for LOVE-just remember if your selfish it can turn out in reverse-EVOL(I mean evil) but you already know this if you're over 17 No offense-PAXIMUNDI
!Bravo Barcelona/Primavera! For such a large area, great sound quality, better than many indoor venues + lighting, PHENOMENAL camera work/EDITING. Love mix of earlier work: Year of the Tiger; Cheerleader with vocoder/talk box; gutsy Loves' reverb; Great Prince Johnny guitar work @ 40 min. not heard elsewhere. Catalan synergy & real synchronicity with crowd, esp. @ 21 min. that lasted throughout! The best of Letterman studio & Austin outdoor vibe!
I love the dirty, ugly guitar noises/tones that close the performance of "Rattlesnake". I would love to hear a whole album, or an EP with that sound/ vibe. "Grot" and "Krokodil" were fantastic teases and glimpses into some other sides of her musical personality.
All the negative comments ? Keyboard player can't keep time ? That is how it's supposed to feel !!! Saying Matt Johnson can't play ? C'mon... The guy lays it deep in the cut and his history speaks for itself. Oi. Show some respect. Log out.
I love St. Vincent, but some interesting tech glitches here for Daniel Mintseris. First, at 32:13 during Cheerleader the wrong chord comes out, and Annie starts strumming the right chords so she can keep on pitch, and then Daniel reaches down to adjust something that fixes the issue. Then during Marrow at 46:20 the intro chords break down a bit (this doesn't happen on any other renditions of this tune, so we can presume it was not intended). The joys of performing with state of the art technology!
The second COULD have possibly been intended because right when it happened she broke at the waist to the beat, like a broken robot lol. Also, I've never hear the demon backing vocals in Cheerleader before either. Maybe they were just trying things?
Absolutely brilliant. I've never been into this type of music (although not many artists sound like this.....but I guess Devo and Talking heads sort of have similar vibes). So, I wondered why I like this....and I came up with the following reasons. -It's aggressive music performed by a beautiful woman. -Her performance, songs and instrumentations are a bit out there....dare say angry, strange and odd? I think they tap into these feelings that I attempt to control and not express because they are not socially acceptable....listening to this music is therapeutic release by proxy. -I play guitar and her playing is quite refreshing (although not technically good). She knows how to build to tension in her playing....I love that about her playing.
When I heard Annie Hibernates for the" First time(now -10/10/17) I thot imediAT lly I knew she came across AMON DUUL ZWEI's Deutsch Nepal"Comment by Jivegurudavy or Virginia's tantric slave of love David
Whoops, my bad. I guess I just don't care for Matt Johnson's playing as a whole. I looked it up and realized he didn't even create the original drum tracks in the studio, and I guess I feel he doesn't do them justice in the live playing.
just saw this live and i have to say: despite having similar thoughts about the live drumming (based on what i've heard on youtube) i was very impressed with the groove and tightness of the band. an excellent show, and annie is a beast.
Was anyone else disappointed with this show? As much as I love St. Vincent, I found this concert a little lacking. The mix isn't very good and it seems like some instruments/parts have been cut out.
barberza She/they had just arrived after a 30-hour flight from Australia I think. Read somewhere in an interview she was completely out of it. Bad planning.
It's a poor, quiet mix which is heavy on her voice and guitar, but light on everything else and makes it sound empty. My go-to St. Vincent show when I'm trying to sell people on her is the "St Vincent @ Outside Lands Fest, Golden Gate Park 8.07.15" set (full show is on a playlist here) which was towards the end of this tour, her hair was back to natural brown, and she'd changed to this hot vinyl catsuit look. The mix is slamming and the performance rocks and she's smokin' hawt, too. From the "Birth In Reverse" opener to the "Bring Me Your Loves" closer, it's money. Cherkitert.
I always come back to this video for this version of "Regret" though. Some other performances have the backing vocals turned down more, and you can hear Daniel and Toko better here. I also like how he strums the chords and lets them ring for a couple beats during the chorus instead of continuing the rhythm more like it is in the verses.
I don't really know why, I don't really dig the drummer. I miss the old one or even the guy who was around during the time she did the 4AD sessions. This one is pretty lame and boring, IMO. Love everyone else though.
although matt has been in the band for a while, i do understand what you meant. i kinda agree, seems like this tour and the one before, he's just been playing pretty softly. i'm not saying he has to pound the drums as hard as he can, but it is visible that he's barely hitting and kind of playing with a lack of enthusiasm. oh well, at least he's keeping good time i guess
Darrien Day It's a tough one. He replicates the sound from the album perfectly. On the album, the drums aren't heavy at all - they're little quirky beats here and there. But I do know what you mean, a little enthusiasm wouldn't go amiss.
Scott Claessens yea same. i have nothing but respect for him as he's a phenomenal musician. he definitely does his job well and holds down a solid beat/groove/keeps perfect time. the was just my one nitpick at an otherwise-perfect musician i guess

You're my new hero.
To the one person who disliked this, you do not know what you are missing. She is so fantastic!
The 10 dislikes here are clearly cultureless c**ts 😬 in an era with so much shite new “music” she is a real innovator 👍 fab musician, love Annie 😍
There are no words to describe what this music does for me.
I love her music, especially her guitar playing.
Great performance!

so jealous you got to see her at bluesfest, I just moved here 2 years ago and missed it
Was at that same show and it was incredible. Went out the next day and bought the album she promoted here. Been a fan ever since
Absolutely amazing!!!!! Completely in love with annie
Extraklasseniveau !!! Musik und Show sind derzeit einzigartige Darbietung !!!
Those are the best hand signals to a sound guy that I've ever seen! Brilliant.
That guitar solo on Rattlesnake! Sick

one of her best performances

It's highly likely that MJ is playing to a click while AC is free to play fast and loose with the time is her habit.
Yes - she does very sophisticated composition work. I think her sound is exactly as she wants it.
@@KayZee1957They’re all playing to a click! No count ins.
really like what she does.
Very nice, lovely St.Vincent :-)
Brilliant! Teeny, tiny, rapid steps...nuff said. :o
I *SO* want to see a collab with StV, Fripp, & Eno!

psiloveyoum0re I think the lower vocal (her voice through a pitch-shift) has always been used, but in this particular mix it's rather prominent.
I saw this show in BCN, great!!!
Unbelievably Good band ! IMHO
fantastica!

this so fucking awesome.
this woman is just too much for me to handle.
agreed - if you mean it in a positive way :- )
also VERY glad the keyboard player grew her bangs out :)
Faith restored
Me encanta!!!
am i the only one that thinks the way she plays cruel now is just so much cooler? it just sounds.. so different.
Increible❤
Tim Hecker intro! Awesome choice!
I was there for Boston!
Chic is crazy good
great

Bodies, can't you see what everybody wants from you?.
i like how there are only four people
One question: Why isn't this on the radio instead of all the other "Alternative"crap/
53:19
JA,Ja,JAaaaaaa!!!!!!!
She is so bad ass.
Are you sure that you said
How I wish the two keyboards were equal volume.
Thanks for putting this up? Do you have it in HD?
Hi. From. March.18. 2021.
Pity the mic stand was denied its 15 seconds of fame by the quick thinking roadie at 41:00.

Birth in Reverse felt a little empty. Screaming for a bass or a louder keyboard or something. Still, Vincent is a guitar ace.
she has the best way to ask for more voice monitor
i am often refered to as pablo gonzales...only with an s
Was that Tim Hecker before the intro?
she plays a mean guitar..
set list?

At least he plays time. Dude doing the fake horns can't hold a beat for shit.
And he don't cut it trying to be an old hipster.

It's the same guy from the 4AD days, Matthew Johnson.
