I believe based on what I was getting over the weekend that the longer the panel is allowed to calibrate with satellites it seems to improve. I did do a reboot after it aligned and that’s where it got fast. Stoked with this product and I’m still working on experimenting more with it.
How long did it take to get yours? We have had it ordered for 11 days now and when we had the offer it said it would arrive in 4 days. And of course starlink customer service is useless.
@@michaelrambo4886 came in a few days
@@JevenDovey what date did you order, i sent the payment the day it said order and receive by 7/4. It is such an ordeal with them all the time
They just released it for open ordering. Thanks for doing the pretest on it for us!
It's really unbelievable how far radio wave technologies have come since the early 2000s. When I was kid, if you could get a Hughes net / wavlink satellite connection for $65 a month and it still needed 56K to send the upload requests and you were lucky to get 2MB down. There was a fixed dish on a roof in a static location. Now this little tiny device the size of a notebook can get over 100MB and 20 up moving down the road from dozens of satellites mesh network hopping from satellite to satellite traveling thousands of mph.
It's really more a testament to rocketry technology and advancement of silicon transistors. Hughsnet is geostationary which is more than 22,000 miles away while Starlink is under 400 miles. To achieve global coverage, thousands more satellites are needed which is only possible because cost of launching them has come down. Faster chips also allow more efficient digital signal processing making way for faster data throughput. QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) technology for interpretation of radio waves has been around since the 1970s and it is still the method used today including starlink as well as wifi.
I’ve been waiting to get mine and I finally got it yesterday! I’m very excited to test it out when I go camping this weekend. 😀
How long did you have to wait, they told us 4 days, it’s been 11 and no word on shipping yet.
Too about 2 weeks for mine, but I’m in a remote area in the US and not sure about other locations but originally they said a week
Jeven, outstanding presentation.
I am a solo sailor, this is what many of us have been waiting for.
Your test of power input and consumption was most interesting. When future subscription plans are made available this will be the standard.
This is a game changer.
Starlink is a revolution, comparable to the advent of the internet and now AI.
Thank you kindly for all your efforts and sharing.
Good video, but my only recommendation is to STOP moving side to side, or spinning when you are doing a selfie. Gave me a headache.
Agree.. He's making me nauseous
Awesome real world test! 💪
Super informative video bro! Thanks for testing the range of the Starlink Mini..This is game-changing for remote creators.✌️
This would be perfect for my use cases. I really hope they offer a daily plan with this so I could just use it on the days i'm camping.
We got the Mini on Thursday…stormy weather in St Louis area over weekend and I was getting 160Mbps…exceeded my expectations when I was in the hill country, so in my opinion it will impress.
Thank you Javen
Great review - better than the other's doing a review. I initially thought about getting this version, but realized that I did not already have another version (at the time of writing), precludes me from one currently. However, based upon your review, I realized my use case needs one of the other versions.
Good work tnx from iraq
What cable did you buy? Can you link it please?
@JevenDovey Agreed, link please
So jealous you got one! Cheers!
Greetings from South Africa. You got a higher speed than my Fibre at home. Wow. Nice logical review.
It's interesting that the usbc cable works. My mini starlink power supply says 30v 2amps 60 watts output. I'm surprised they would pay for more than one step-down transformer.
Good catch finding you can power it USB-C
Holyshit, this is a really cool device.
2 fantastic videos ! Wish we had this for our Gobi desert expedition. Curious about speed / connectivity with obstructions ? Thinking of rainforest expeditions. A good Garmin locks on GPS satellites even under the canopy. Will the Starlink mini do the same ?
Hi great video when do you think it will come through Australia thanks
Hey Jeven, thanks for this really interesting testing. I am currently working on a project of using a remote controlled marine vessel for survey operations and i am looking for a solution to constantly connect the drone with my computer. 4G is not given at any location and therefore I need a internet connection via stalite. The Starlink marine version is taking to much power and moreover it will be to large and havy for my drone. It would be really interesting to see if the Starlink mini is able to work in motion but also if the system is able to work, when its rolling and pitching. This will also be interesting for all the sailors out there. A video in which you rotate the Starlink antenna a bit and check whether it can also be used on boats would be super interesting.
This is one of the best starlink mini vids yet, BUT the WiFi distance tests you did are not fair. You put the mini on the front of your Jeep and did the tests from behind it. A giant hunk of metal will negatively affect any WiFi router.
I like the mini idea. I just don’t like the fact that it’s not a standalone unit just like the larger one.
It would be awesome if it was a standalone unit with a affordable price plan and affordable under $100 a month I think they would be really onto something
I travel remote Alaska highways in the winter and find that up here Iridium is not always reliable. My main uses would be while camping in the summer and for emergency contact in the winter. I’ll do some blizzard testing this winter on the Steese Highway 😁
I’ve stopped using the kickstand on my gen 3 and just lay it flat. It helps with the misalignment.
I would quickly presume there are some restrictions on it just so they make certain you're aware, Skylink is aware you are in motion...thanks for the pricing info I can see where they go with this..
Hi Jeven, great review! Do you know if calls can be made with Google Phone on the Starlink network? I saw on your other video you made a Facetime video call.
Thank you
Excellent presentation. Thank you. Did you happen to notice if the wattage draw was any different with the USB-C cable? I was hoping it would draw a bit less.
I'm anxious to compare the power draw of the Starlink AC adapter versus direct to USB-C PD. I too am hoping it will be less, but there should be some efficiency gains via USB PD, since you're not having to power the AC inverter in the power bank, and then have the Starlink AC adapter convert it back to DC.
@@5thGenNativeTexan There are actually three ways of powering it - AC adapter to 12v 5521, 12v 5521 to 12v 5521 and USB-C PD to 5521. Some detailed comparisons of the three would be wonderful.
@markmonroe7330 so the unit must be under 12 volts?with the power supply being 30v 2amp 60watt.
@@Patriot3no its not, it actually runs internally on 20V. USB PD goes up to 48V and 5A which are the 240W cables you can buy
@chrisr819 Thank you. I m not familiar with these cables. I'll have to research it. Im.building a mobile office in my tesla and a hot spot is sketchy. Im going to mount the dish in the center of my teslas glass roof.
I’m curious if this could be stowed between my sunroof and the sunroof shade, or would the heat be to great?
How if you mount it flat on the top of the Jeep?
Would’ve liked to see the Starlink mounted flat on the roof of your rig and in motion. Pointed at that much of an angle isn’t exactly ideal. Informative video nonetheless!
Exciting/frustrating. I paid £450 for the big dish - now obsolete. Mini will hopefully pass airport x-ray as a laptop. I live in an oasis 30 km from the Libyan border. Starlink works in Libya, not in Egypt.... making a video of that in Nov. Jeven - maybe meet me in London and come shoot Cairo with me? :)
You should have looked at the statistics graph in the Starlink app. A Speedtest will not accurately tell you if you can do phone calls or stream. If there are long dropouts, the service will be unusable for that.
Would you recommend this for a trucker?
What is the sun shade you use?
I think in motion detection is speed dependent, if 65mph it wont work
15mph probably work
I would try mounting it horizontally on the roof or hood
Can you run a speedtest with the ethernet cable and see if speed changes
What is the name of this popup truck camper tent? I love how you can open a door from below
Alu Cab
You should use a third party speed test app. Can't trust any of the speeds you've shown.
In short: Freedom!
The gen3 is a much better product with better plans. This thing needs huge improvements in the hardware and specifically the service offing to make it usable IMO.
I would love to see how it does Livestreaming ..
with 20mbit up, not great.
Can you put a LAN cable in it?
Can your position be tracked while using Starlink?
30W!?! OMG! The highperf flat burns 230-320W!!
I really wish this had mesh capability.
Hi Devin, so how or where can you get the mini, I thought I purchased the mini from Best Buy but was the standard so going back. Any suggestions where to get? Thanks Dave...
You have to have a home unit first, and then it was a limited launch to start with.
@@michaelrambo4886 Hi Devin, today the 11th Space X is accepting now orders for the mini so we have one on order, yeah...
$120 + $30 = $150/month total, for the two versions of the service. You can't only pay $30, unfortunately. But $150 is still a decent option.
Certainly beats paying $120/mo @ home + $150/mo for Roaming on a second Gen 2 unit, which is what we were doing. Within a matter of months the Mini will have paid for itself now that we are saving $120/mo.
Use the advanced speed test next time. It will test the raw speed and cut out the latency and limitation of the Wifi between the dish and your phone.
It sounds great. But, people need to know that they can't upload video with any Starlink, including the panels for home use. The upload speeds are abysmal. Calls are fine.
I get 320MB down, and 23MB up on my Starlink. More than enough to upload videos... do live video calls, stream videos from all security cameras, etc.
@@5thGenNativeTexan Video calls are no problem. I'be never been able to upload a 1080p video of an hours length to YT with my Star Link. It has been a little better lately, but 7 is a typical speed around here.
Remote? On a hill above a city?
It’s a pretty large mountain and there is no service out here
I wonder why they don’t authorize use “while in motion”.
I’m Watching this video on a stink HP flat, Which is working fine, but drawing 12 amps!! That’s 150W! I asked stink if I could trade it for a mini… no joy. Sad.
Does Starlink do zoom? No one seems to want to answer that.
I show myself doing zoom in this video…
@@JevenDovey Considering that is the mini that is pretty good. If I get the home version it seems like I will be fine.
The sunglasses link does NOT work...
I just tested and it works fine for me: Sunglasses: geni.us/dFlWUC
As far as I know all of the dishes work in motion
Give me an affordable small dish with an unlimited plan and I would be a customer for life
What if they integrate tesla solar around the disk
No battery needed
😂
still expecting starlink direct to mobile, so we need no additional devices.
ok but that doesnt exist yet so this works great
Everyone owes Elon Musk a debt of gratitude.
Too bad the cap is so low it’s not worth it….
Please give me i need
