From my perspective the lyric "chauffer coming to my door, says there room for maybe just one more" references the ferryman, Charon coming to take your soul across the river Styx and that he always has room for another soul. That leads to "shiny silver dollar on either eye" which is what you need to pay Charon for his service. All of that goes back to, of course, ancient Greek myths about dying and going to the underworld to meet Hades and Persephone.
Danny is ha always had a sort of "Whimsy-Goth" asthedic long before the term"Goth" was even a thing. Back in the 80's Oingo Boingo was only playedon collage radio which me made bootleg /diy mix tapes of and passed them around and the rare occasion we had money to buy records in Atlanta it was Wax N Facts in Little Five Points! I have a special place in my heart for Danny Elfman and Oingo Boingo!
Irvine Meadows was the site of O.B's annual Deadman's Party Halloween concerts. Over the course of those seven years, I was luck enough to get tickets a couple times and loved every minute of 'em! Crazy energy, great vibes, and fantastic performances 🎉💀💥💫🤘
Such an incredible guy. Love him so much. I'd heard the story about Lola asking about the drum machine before but I don't remember where. He's almost 70 and his hair is still so red!
His armpit hair is still red too. That’s how you know he’s not dyeing it. Unless he dyes his armpit hair as well. But gingers generally take longer to go grey especially if they take care of themselves as he does.
Avenged sevenfold are who got me to look into oingo boingo. Syn was always referencing them when he and the rev had their band pinkly smooth. He said they were inspired a lot by oingo and mr bungle. I looked them up on TH-cam and came across private life and the rest is history. I listen to oingo boingo almost everyday and have 15-20 songs on my playlist
Danny is so versatile & multi-talented, that it truly is 'yikes' !!!😂🤩 &, if you ever go lookin' for a 'dead man,' you'll probably hear this song in the Malibu foothills...😂🤩 (me, via Haslett, MI, to Topanga, too !!!)😂 THIS, IS ONE FAB, NONE LIKE IT, DANCING, SWINGIN' TUNE... &, i Never tired of it... :) 💫✨💜 THANKS !🙏 (Oh, & i watched '9,' like twice, in a row, & it's amazingly adorable... big wow... :)😵💫😊😁
I was working as a studio musician in Stockholm and had started to get tired of backing up unmotivated artists - this low energy bored me to death. Went to LA on vacation, got to hear two bands - The Blasters and Oingo Boingo - and got my energy back.
Danny, don't be surprised that people love your work. You're a genius, dude.
love this! Danny my biggest musical inspiration. love hearing him talk about processes like this
That song just sounds inevitable. Like it's always been there and he just found it.
Wait? You got Danny Elfman on your show? WHAT THE EFF? Dude's a musical genius.

i always thought the chauffeur was the guy driving the hearse
So absolutely insane that I woke up this morning wishing that I could interview Danny and ask him about the lyrics to this song.

Great beat, funk sound with the horns in the rock&rolla, and the lyrics. He talks about two of those. No surprise it’s a classic!

I love this song.
What a genius
Avenged sevenfold definitely got "dancing dead" from oingo boingo. Both great songs, plus Danny working with them even puts the cherry on top

Danny Elfman is being interviewed by David S. Pumkins.
Any questions?!

Praise BoB!
From a friend of the Church of the Sub Genius
I thought the album was from 1985, not 1986.
And you'd be correct. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned it...and why Danny doesn't correct the interviewer is kinda odd.
Maybe the interviewer is thinking of the movie Back to School we’re it’s on the soundtrack.
Would love to see him on JRE
Love his music. Weird plastic surgery though
Danny Elfman disavows Oingo Boingo like Bill Nelson disavows Be-BopDeluxe. Not how proper pop stars are supposed to act!
That's how I write music too. Danny is my idol & completely shaped my singing voice from birth.
dude same
outside of I've been composing all my damn life somehow this style popped into me
Thank you Danny!!!!!!!!!!
Danny Is the greatest musician ever!!!
