WELL thankyou to the TH-cam algorithm for showing me this.... This is one of the best designs i have seen in a LONG time and my wife and I can't wait to follow your progress.
Hi Tony, I just found your post in the Catamaran Build Group on FB. I really love your new boat and just wanted to congrats to you and your wife for the decision you are both making. We lived aboard a Seawind 1260 for 3 years, with our 2 kids (move onboard at 5 and 3 y/o). We sold the boat in 2022 and put the kids on school. Just wanted to move aboard again so we also contacted David De Villiers and ask him to help us design a new 48 foot cat, but had to step back for now. So maybe in the future we will join you on this journey of building an alloy sailing cat for sailing and fishing around the world with the family. PS. This might sound silly, but I would try to move the WC to the other side of the owner head, so you can see outside the windows while shitting 😁 (Take a look at the Seawind 1260 layout configuration) Cheers!
Thanks Jose, its a massive process the design and then sorting the build, alot of sleepness night thinking over details. The probelm with moving the head fro sea views if we have a companoin way there that goes up into a massive sotrage area. Once your reay to get back into a boat build or design, give us a yell and we would love to talk. Thanks for tuning in and looking forward to sharing the progress with you. Cheers Tony ps those 3 years on board with the kids would hve been priceless! congrats for giving that experience to your family!
I can imagine! Later saw that companion way, much better to have that than the ocean view. Really clever! Would love to talked with you guys in the future, I will be closely following your progress. How long are you planning to spend from the moment you really start looking for designer and builders until your boat is ready?
Looks great Tony!!! Wonderful features and very exciting for you both!!!! We'll keep watching your progress and look forward to seeing it being launched!!! Absolutely awesome features!
Awesome stuff guys I've been looking for a forward helm alloy boat like the windelo 50 but in alloy and have had a brief contact with odisea boats who will do a 55 ft cat but the cost is up there I'm in Papamoa Tauranga and would love to have a look at the build and have a chat if that was cool to do I was wondering what sort of budget have you allowed if i may ask. cheers steve
Sounds very interesting! I am actively researching an alloy cat nuild. Can't find this project on the designer's site tough. I would like to know much more details. Have you considered parallel hybrid propulsion? What is a ballpark cost to have a 50 build? Good luck with the project.
Its pretty fresh out of the designers and will be up on Legacy's site in 2 weeks. We have looked at hybrid propulsion and gone around in circles with the idea. We will use this boat for gamefishing alot so bigger 80hp diesels are what we are going for. If you flick me an email I would be more than happy to share more info and approx build cost.
Can’t wait to follow along your journey. I am building an alloy cat also, starts in the next few months so I share in your excitement of seeing simple sketch drawings turn into CAD’s then 3D models ready for cutout. Will be heading out into the deep blue with my boy, we might need some fishing lessons 😂
What I like about metal boats is you can run half pipes down the side of the boat to use as keel coolers for the engines and chillers. This eliminates several holes in the hull. I also like that metal boats act as faraday cage.
Hi Mathew, Legacy Marine will have the new models up on there website in the next two weeks. If your happy to email me I can get more info to you. Regards Tony
I'm surprised you didn't go with hybrid engines. All the new boats are hybrid or electric with generator. Need power at anchorage go sail 2-3 hours and batteries are good another day. Fuel savings big time.
We went arround in circles big time about hybrid engines and with the amount of gamefishing we will be doing we want more power so hybrids was not an option fo us but can be done on future vessels. We are more traditionalists and trust the good old yanmar!
200 NM a day is an average speed of over 8 knots. With the large skegs and large "mini keels" you have a massive wetted surface area, they surely will create a massive drag. All the fast yachts have daggers which minimises the wetted surface area, often with the advantage shallower draft for better anchorages,.

Thanks for tuning in, there will be regular videos of the build and set up coming up. Build starts in Jan 2024.

How long are you planning to spend from the moment you really start looking for designer and builders until your boat is ready?
vessel design is now complete and build starts in 3-4 weeks at Legacy Marine in New Zealand.
She is an absolute beauty. I love how you have solved the helm station issue.
Looks great Tony!!! Wonderful features and very exciting for you both!!!! We'll keep watching your progress and look forward to seeing it being launched!!! Absolutely awesome features!
Thanks guys, looking forward to the next update on your new build.
Fantastic work and we will follow your special journey. All our best wishes and love. Willie and Angela.
Thanks mate, hope you guys are well.
Looks like a dream guys! Can’t wait to follow along with your new adventure.
Thanks Steph
What you are doing is breaking pattern in a major way, creating a new reality tunnel, very ballsy life choice and inspirational

Hi Stephen, thanks for the message. I will send you an email soon with more details. Thanks for tuning in. Tony

Thanks mate
Wow can not wait to follow your journey 👌🏽 little jealous lol i need to start dealing 😜
Congrats! It’s awesome to you guys living your dream.😎
Thanks Allen, hope all is well mate.
What a weapon. Can’t wait to see you guys on the water!
The project looks promising. I specially like it's aluminium, the shaft drive and rudders design. Look pretty safe. Good luck!

How good!!!! Really exciting team.
Cant wait to follow the build!
Congrats!
It's a beautiful boat.
Awesome can’t wait to follow the build, how long do they anticipate the build to launching?
12-13 months to build, Legacy Marine have a pretty slick operation and turn them over fast.
Can’t wait to follow along your journey. Awesome mate, where you getting it built?
Looks awesome Tony 🤙
Nice project, looking forward for the next episodes
great design , what was your budget for this boat
Looks fun! Nice work guys
Cheers mate
That looks like a great boat. Thanks for sharing. Are you able to share your budget? Or what the price of the 55’was.
CF mast also makes the boat a lot more comfortable because of the reduced pitching

We are looking into the keel cooler idea
Love the cat. Where do I get further information?
Hi Mathew, Legacy Marine will have the new models up on there website in the next two weeks. If your happy to email me I can get more info to you. Regards Tony
Hi Tony. Are you able to send me your email address? Thanks
What a cool looking boat . .
😍😍😍 Love it guys

Want one! Where can I get☺️?
I wish someone would design a cat that can heel like a monohull.
A long way to slide!
Do you mean like a TAG 60

RVs of the sea.. No thanx.
Can't call it new if its just been copied.... lol
Good looking designs
