- Finally got round to doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and being from Yorkshire it needed to be done! I decided to bring my wild camping gear along and do a wild camp.
The peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside & Ingleborough are known collectively as the Yorkshire Three Peaks. The route is 24 miles (38.6km) long and involves 5000 ft (1600 metres) of vertical ascent.

Had a bad experience on Ingleborough sunny a the bottom got to the top and the weather came down on us we could not see away off a lot of people panicking walking around some old guy got us all together and walked us down to safety like Moses leading us out of Egypt `( 6 TIMES PETER )

I’ve never had views on both times i’ve visited the Yorkshire 3 Peaks! 😂 The latest was my storm camp up Pen Y Ghent and couldn’t see anything that time either haha… so might have to go again when its forecast clear weather!

Did the Yorkshire 3 peaks for my 50th birthday love it but had foot issue about half way but being a stubborn Yorkshire man carried on to finish it in the time allowed and completely knackered my foot up for months lol , it was boiling hot sunshine too had to refuel after at the Crown in Hawes for several pints of Old Peculiar lol
Forgot to mention camped at ground at back of station inn at ribblehead

Yes, done 3 Peaks 3 times. First time took ham sandwiches and they cooked on my back. Felt unwell at the end of the day. Second time got sunburnt ouch. Third time post vasectomy, had post op swollen bollox. Great walk, will do it again.
Another Great video Liam, Yes, I've actually done the Yorkshire 3 Peaks 5 time over a 30 year span. Fortunate to do it a couple of times in superb sunny and clear conditions but also completed in weather like you've just expeirenced. Quickest time was just under 8 hours with a couple of mates who really went for it, Damn near nearly killed me. Longest time was 13 hours with a group of friends who were stopping for a breather every 5 minutes !! The other 3 times all round about 9 - 10 hours. The route used to cross Black Dub Moss which was often and absolute swamp. It now follows a large chunk of the Penneine Way between Pen y Ghent and Ribblehead. I've seen many people up to their neas crossing The Moss.

It is interesting that wild camping in England is illegal without the landowner's consent except dartmoor , yet it doesnt seem to stop anyone. Landowner in dartmooor tried to get wild camping banned there aswell but failed .

Done it once, Oct 2023 - once is enough. Glorious sunny day albeit chilly. That descent from Ingleborough is tough on the feet and knees, goes on forever….. great video tho 👍🏻

Did it about 15yrs ago with a couple of mate and the weather was horrendous. Strong winds and heavy rain. Couldn’t see more than 30 metres in parts. Well worth the effort and challenge though.
Yes! Only done Ingleborough so far, I plan on boxing them all off first, then going back and doing the three together. It was similar conditions at the summit when I went too.

Yes I have done the three peaks in mid February it was stunning views and even had some snow on the day. Overall pretty challenging but looking to do it again
Yes, we did it last September. Weather was kind to us. We did it in just under 9 hours.
That "Louis V" top was still there last weekend when I was up Pen Y Ghent! 🙈 Left in case in someone went back for it, but guess they won't be, I'll find a bin for it next time! Great vid btw!

I did the Yorkshire 3 Peaks years ago in 2000 and something. I remember it being harder than I imagined,well longer.That last sign post seemed to go on forever like someone was fiddling the numbers and the end of the walk got further and further away! ;) but it was a lovey hike.
I spent New Year’s Eve climbing Pen Y Gent to watch the new year sunrise in weather like that. I remember the black murk turning into grey murk. Very underwhelming.
Great video. I do this walk every year for charity, luckily never had bad weather. It'll probably be shite this year though.
Yeah did this in 2017 as part of a do it in 12 hour challenge liam , did it in 7 hours and thought it was awesome but tough mate, looking at doing it again this year maybe , but with a wild camp on each summit, just watching weather and temperatures now weekly and then I will be going for it fella, great video fella as always and your enthusiasm 👍, the viaduct would be a good camp, but watch the ghosts, 😂 take care fella

Cracking effort pity the weather wasn't better but hey it's Britain after all lol.i did it in the 80s but didn't camp took us 9hrs but I was a lot younger and in the forces then
Yea been there done that a few times only twice has it not been tipping it down mind 😂 camped on a site near Horton once and there was the biggest slugs on the walls in the shower I've ever seen 😮

Had the same conditions on the National Three Peaks Challenge. Huge effort with crap views! But as you say once you've booked the time you've just got to get it done.

Yes, I have done the full round twice. Both were the challenge of completing it inside 12hrs, so you need to do it again! There is a time card clock in the Horton cafe (at least there used to be). I did it last time with a bunch of school kids.

Yep have done it twice. The first in under 10hrs and the second just over although we carried on at the end and made it up to marathon distance. Had great weather and walked it with literally thousands of others.

thats my plan , i did it with all my gear after walking from skipton over two days, managed to do it in 11hrs.
Done it 6 times in all weathers the hot days where the worst
Yes did it in May 2022, hard graft but a really good day. Managed it in 8hr15. Even had time for a quick pit stop at the butty van before Ribblehead viaduct.
Great time that, i’m gonna do it again 1 day without the camping gear to see how long it takes.

Yorkshire weather rain
Done it 5 times each time has been different. Ran it in 2021 in 5hrs 53 mins. Walked the other 4 times. Loved every single time.

I thought going up whernside was a walk in the park maybe it’s because you had already racked up the miles but agree with you on coming down it was a killer 🤣 then a trek back to car I parked were the ice cream van was 😃

Finally you have got with the program and done the Yorkshire Peaks, its my favourite area even in bad weather, you've done really well it that weather though buddy. You walked past Hull Pot after you dropped off pen y ghent so it's definitely worth another visit. I've done vids of the 3 peaks challenge and vids of wildcamping on all 3 peaks, favourite peak to camp is pen y ghent, best spot to chill out is force Gill Waterfall on the way up whernside, and I find Ingleborough the most rewarding to climb. I absolutely hate the slog up whernside, it seems to go on for ages. You now need to camp the other 2 peaks to complete the trio. And if you fancy another challenge in Yorkshire, have a look at the Lyke wake walk. The big hole you found just before the climb upto Ingleborough is called Braithwaites wife hole, its a twat to get out off😂, it's a shame about the wind direction for pitching the tent because their is a stunning place to camp past the wind break, but your pitch looked spot on, well done budd6 and get back in the area when the weather's better. Ta Stu.

I took a 500ml bottle of juice and 1.5 litre of water with me and my sawyer filter but filled up at Philpin farm about 16 miles in. 👌🏼

Not sure what knee issue I have mate, should probably go to the doctors but no doubt they’l just tell me to rest it, which isnt the answer i’m wanting.. soon as i’ve done a few days hiking… especially when coming down hill I get a throbbing pain in the inner knee.
