    You got one wee bitty incorrect: everyone has second sight, witches have first sight. Second sight is seeing what you want to see, first sight is seeing what’s actually there.

      He might have been thinking of 1st and 2nd thoughts?

    • @festeradams3972
      @festeradams3972 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But young Tiffany had "3rd thoughts", something we could certainly use on our "round world", and is quite apparent in our own history (all of it...) as the failure to thoroughly "think it through" is painfully obvious.....

    Their was also Geoffrey Swive, he was basically a witch and he had magic that was the same as any other witch, though his headology worked a bit different. I believe he is often compared to Esk because he is such a rare sight. (He was however named a calm weaver though by Tiffany, probably to stop arguments??? )
    This was an amazing video, I really loved how in depth you went into everything!!!
    Also oh my gosh the segment of Cackling was so amazing!!!!

    A gingerbread house; that's peanuts compared to a house made entirely out of frogs; which is what, if I recall correctly, Black Alice had :3

    Witchcraft is an odd one, isn't it? Counter to my comment on Wizards in the last video, I think you've done all that *can* be done to encompass Witches as a whole here... any attempt to go into great detail would get bogged down into exceptions and rule-proving. It's not as if Witchcraft is "Wizardry with skirts", after all! I almost feel as if our dauntless author went to great lengths to *avoid* a dualistic masculine/feminine definition for how magic in general works on the Disc and did a masterful job of convincing everyone, himself included, that he'd succeeded at that. However, there is indeed a core balance or contradiction between the two main formal schools of magic that boils down to a pair of rough comparisons: "Wizards have rules to break and enjoy the breaking, Witches have principles to betray and fear the day when they have to" and "Where a Witch will find a way to make a mountain want to move out of her way, a Wizard will make it so that the mountain is simply no longer there".

    It just hit me today to make youtube vids about the Lore of the Discworld my fav literary work of all time. I can't believe it never occured to me before been so focused on Gaming vids lol Great to find yer vids btw. The concept of "Going Cackeling" is like a Force user turning to the Dark side only so much more sophisticated, smarter, funnier and disturbing.....sort of like how Terry did almost everything better hehe ;p

    just wanted to say I'm loving this series and keep it up man :)
    but quick question where is the source for the lancre blacksmith shoeing any beast ?

    • @Unseenarchivist
      @Unseenarchivist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Lords and Ladies. It is brought up by Jason in his internal monologue at the start of the book in the shoeing binky scene and confirmed as fact by Granny Weatherwax in the climax when she brings him a unicorn.

      0MFGAWIZARD its in one of the books. Our Jason has a noisy little thing around the smithy but mostly in the eve of summer when the clouds are pregnant with whatever. Tbh, it'd be annoying.

      @Unseenarchivist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Gods and Demons" is definately going to be a video at some point. The Anthropomorphic Personifications as a collective sounds like a good one to tackle, followed by Death getting a video to himself. Thanks for the input :)

    You are getting better at this. Now you are telling a story, instead of reading out loud. This is much much better than the first and second lore, where you sounded like you were reading as fast as you can from a text without any punctuation mark. They were really hard to follow and enjoy.

    I've always viewed the relationship between Wizards and Witches as similar to the relationship between research scientists and engineers. You really can't have one without the other; but it's the witches that make practical real-world use of magic for those who need (without the risk of opening up doors into the Dungeon Dimensions). Of course, without the wizards, there would be no new discoveries regarding the nature of magic and magical scholarship in general.

    "Lilith de Tempscire" is a pun on "Weatherwax"--her sister's name

  • @ahcokris

    Point: sharing meals too. Remember about the voles?
    PS: bees. A hive mind. Not minds. Borrowing bees is a plural.

    • @ahcokris

      Also the dabger of being invaded like Tiffany Aching by the hiver. So borrow carefully and never leave an "empty" body lying around.

    You said we got introduced to witches in Wyrd Sisters, but we first saw them in Equal Rites, Granny and another one down slice way. Although we didn't really learn much about witch culture so maybe you're right :)

    • @Unseenarchivist
      @Unseenarchivist  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My phrasing was a bit off, I was indeed talking about the culture of witches as a collective rather than individual members. My bad there.

    In "witch" book do they give young Carot his gifts? I have searched for a while and cannot find it.

    • @Unseenarchivist
      @Unseenarchivist  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you may be confused, Carrot was never given gifts by the witches, though Magrat gets a passing reference in Guards! Guards! as the wtich who pronounced his family sword as extremely non magical.

      Granny helped a Troll mother (that none of the midwives or other witches would come within miles of) deliver her baby.
      I don't think she'd approve of online trolls, though.
      "I can't be having with that kind of thing. Not at my time of life."
      Then she would probably make you think you were a frog.
