    • @Raphson
      @Raphson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lower that ratio the easier to skid. So a bigger rear cog or a smaller gear at your crank will both make it easier. But also you'll pedal a lot more. So it's s tradeoff. Also, leaning far forewards helps. Or using a skid enhancing device like I did in my latest vid.

    • @Raphson
      @Raphson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well you've got an extremely heavy ratio of 3.5. that doesnt help. Try lean forward over your bars super much, up till when you almost fall. If you do that, you've taken off almost all weight of your rear wheel, therefore making it easier to skid. Also, try to do this when the surface is wet, less friction is key to learn. Finally, focus on pulling your front foot mostly, your rear foot has to push but our feet are used to that anyways.

    0:55 Not really. Been driving a fixed gear for about 3 years and I've never felt the need of skidding every 10 seconds. And that's commuting to work everyday, riding on alleycats and using the bike almost daily. It's all about how you drive, how focused on the enviroment you are and how to think fast if there's an upcoming and imminent fatality.

    I’m enjoying the bike so far th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

      @Raphson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gustafvngas4882 Thing is that yes indeed I was showing off in this intro, but removing your brakes and just skidding actually helps you gain so much traffic awareness. You cannot just ride up to a traffic light and if it gets red you brake and done. No, you have to anticipate when you are 50 meters away that it might get red so either accelerate or start stopping. Skidding is your emergency brake, most of the work happens by just slowing your feet down gradually. Fact is, I have not fallen or crashed since I have been riding fixie (about 7 years now), and the traffic awareness has helped me a lot to understand what is going on and react in the best ways when I drive a car too.

      Your legs performs the rear brake actuation as the video shows, but you can have a front brake if you want, in fact it is required in most part of the world to have a front brake on Fixie's

      It's not just strength, brother! Try focussing on the pulling foot, and lean far over your bar to lower pressure on the rear tire!

      Hey man, yes, hop skids are a good place to start. Try wet surface or dirt surface, to get even less grip.

    Do you have to replace the tire everyday?

      Hahaha extensive skidding does come with a cost, yeah... Try Black Mambas or Gatorskin Hardshells.

    why not just put a brake on?

      Its a minimalist thing. Its the thought that its just you and your legs to get your machine to do what you want.
