Pencil 1 is really great. I’ve used it for abt 2 months now and the palm rejection is so great! The only thing missing is just pressure sensitivity but for a notetaker it’s not a huge dealbreaker
Part of me hates I'm being pulled further into the Apple ecosystem but the iPad Airs have been so good to me as a student - and even with the base options, I'm happy considering I built myself a NAS to not have to worry about storage. That said, I feel like a shill - I knew there were cheaper styli out, but I felt I needed the Pencil 2 and Air 4 because of that magnetic charging. I've lost precious time on quizzes because my Pencil died on my Air 3 and I had no other way to write. I know the Air 4 is questionable given its price point but I really don't need a Pro, and the Air 4 literally solves the few problems I have with the Air 3.
well, just my suggestion, that would be nice to see how the result on each pencil on writing or drawing rather than just talk about the pencils. Who cares how tall the pencil is or how thick the pencil is, etc ....
I just bought new iPad Pro today after weeks of research and watching TH-cam videos. I have to say your channel is the most informative, professional, no gimmicks thing when it comes to tech reviews that I’ve seen on TH-cam EVER! You deserve million subscribers! Now I’m buying a stylus tomorrow but which one? I’ll watch your video first:) thanks for good work
Good review, I enjoyed the comparisons and now I'm comfortable with my purchase of Pencil #1.👍🏽 I bought pencil #1 shortly after getting the Apple pencil 2 for use with my newly acquired iPad Air. It does everything I need it to do for me as I'm a non-artist, and primarily use it to highlight reading passages, sign pdf's, and draw diagrams. It works fantastically well and the touch on & off button at the top hasn't been a problem for me. The Apple pencil is being returned this week and I'll save $90. in doing so. Also, Amazon has a version of this exact pencil called the Switch Easy Pro, which is the one I bought. Great features as well. 💰
This review is irrelevant because: IF all clones function identically or “close enough” then price is the only factor. The holy grail of clones is pressure sensitivity
I don’t believe there is any clone that supports pressure sensitivity. Not even the Logitech Crayon supports this feature. Obviously Apple kept this feature to itself and didn’t share the technology with Logitech.
@@CatJMarshall not necessarily, unless you are using the pencil for illustration/photography then those functions are not an issue, for example if taking notes is the main/only need then any of the clones is a better option.
I’m surprised no comment was made on which did or did not support palm recognition. Seems to me like an important feature. Maybe they all didn’t support it but would have been worth mentioning.
for those of you wondering, they changed the way Pencil #3 charges. it now charges with a USB-C port instead of the weird way Harris was talking about. however, as of 12/17/22, the pencil is unavailable.
there is another type of clone pencil which I use that actually charges on the iPad just like the original but you still have top turn it on , retails for $50 in oz
Does the "Scribble" function work with these 3rd party styli ? (the iPadOS function that allows using handwriting instead of typing in almost any search bar on the iPad). I've seen people who claim it only works with the 1st or 2nd generation Apple Pencils and other who don't so I would appreciate some clarification. Thanks for your help !
Hi Harris, good review. Life seems to be treating you well! I like how you're showing more of your personality & mannerisms to these videos. 👍🏽 My 15 second ramble -> These 3rd party options are all good, especially for the every day note taking user. The price point, compared to the Apple Pencil is great, but compared to a box of #2 pencils (you can get 150 for $12.99 on Amazon), you quickly see how extremely expensive these things are "I just need something to write with". Sure we can debate that it's not an "apples to apples comparison" (no pun intended) but I believe the price point of these accessories (and many other accessories in general) need to be much better.
Yep, I don’t think anyone disagrees that these are premium writing devices. The iPad is obviously thousands of times more expensive than loose leaf paper. For some it’s way overkill, and for some it’s a justified luxury 🤷♂️
@@HarrisCraycraft yes i know. But for what ever reason my amazon does not show this exact pen. Instead it shows me an Overview of pens. I can't identify the pen only based on the look 😅
And for the 3rd pens name this is what I get : Stylus Pen for iPad Pencil with Tilt Pressure Sensitivity and Palm Rejection, Active Digital Pen Compatible for Apple iPad(2018-2020), iPad pro(11/12.9 Inch),iPad 6th/7th Gen, Mini 5th Gen,Air 3rd Gen
@UCP-13beB0x8brsN9ryWOFsw but a "pro" for no. 3 is that it supports tilt sensetivity. Ahh. I don't know. 😂 Don't wanna spend 100 but want every Feature 😂😂🤦 And i don't buy it now because i do not have an iPad yet 😅😂
Did I miss a video I didn’t know you were already back at school? That was hilarious when you said you lost the fifth pencil. I have apples pencil I don’t do third-party because I need to work.
great video really!! I’ve heard about some of the pencils & it was nice to see you talk about them & be a bit assured about getting one. also, do any of the pencils really do scratch an ipad surface without the paperlike screen guard? would you consider giving away one of the pencils 🥺
Hey, can you confirm the brand of pencil 3, because the one from the link isn’t exactly the same one that you show. I’m the video it has a magnetic charger at the top and the one from the link uses usb c.
I bought the Logitech one for $35, its my first stylus for iPad and its ok. Not an artist at all and really it just scrolls and does hand written notes. No way would I spend $120 for that.
It would’ve been reaaaally nice if you actually put the name of the pens on the video though. Would also love to see how they compare when writing instead of just showing the pens cause we can also see that on google. Just my 2 cents
help for the #6th one, im gonna get but i need a grip and case for it but i dont think there are any ones that fit cause that pencil isnt round. What do i do
Are you an Apple Pencil user? Let me know! And make sure to check out Paperlike screen protectors: paperlike.com/harris11
Is the #4 pencil the same size/length of the Apple Pencil 1?
does #4 work with the new ipad 8th gen?
No I’m not I never spend that much for apple pencils I got $15 pencil that good enough for me
Is there a compatible pencil for apple pencil 1st generation with palm rejection?
You should’ve demonstrated using each pencil 😕

The 3rd pencil is definitely the best option
do you know what number 3's name is? i want to see if i can get it. could you also put in the price? tysm for your time! love your videos!
You videos are incredibly helpful - thank you! About the screen protector; does it obstruct your screen view at all, given it's matte texture?
Thanks for the comment! If a bright, direct light is hitting the screen it can be a bit troublesome, but otherwise isn't an issue for me.
This is a great video, but maybe I missed it... Which one one would you pick for your iPad pro if you didn't want to buy a new Apple version.
Thank you! I have a 2019 budget, bought summer 2020; with the first gen pencil. Loving it but I think I’m going to get a budget pencil for outings.
