  • Part 2: • Blender Grease Pencil ...
    Hey Everyone, it’s been a while! Here’s part 1 of 2 of my Blender & Grease Pencil Beginner Tutorial. I had been thinking about creating a tutorial for some time and thought to create one based off of 2 videos I did previously. I had a lot of fun creating this video, and got a chance to animate my channel’s avatar! In this tutorial, I walk through the creation of an entire project, starting from the concept. The format is similarly structured to how I edit my design process videos. I wanted to create something helpful and something accessible to everyone of all skill levels. Again, I’m still learning Blender and there’s always awesome updates, but if there’s something I’ve missed or there’s a more efficient way to do something, feel free to mention it in the comments. Hope you guys enjoy!
    The tutorial is divided into 2 parts, with this being part 1. Part 2 is scheduled to come out next week. The outline is listed below:

    great tutorial, i got stuck adding the outline stroke. The flowers work fine, but the vase and table stroke is applied to, kinda like, the inside of the object. i cant make sense of what is wrong. are my objects inside out or something?

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you! Check the solidify modifier on the vase and table and make sure “flip normals” is toggled. And if that doesn't work, go into edit mode, hit "alt + N" and select "flip normals" to do it manually. Hope that helps!

      @@kevandram for me only the vase wont work. Instead of an outline it just covere the hole of the vase. I checked everything and cant see what i did wrong.

    For the final step, if anyone is having trouble getting the strokes to show on certain objects. Try tabbing to edit mode, hitting A to select everything, then go to Mesh>Normals>Flip. Likely your object has back to front normals by accident. That's what happened with me! Fantastic tutorial Kevan, thankyou!

    the section at 53:36 is a bit tricky and here's a solution that helped:
    if u have applied the subdivision sub surf modifier the shape will change drastically to the vase so most u u(me included) will press ctrl + r and add new loops and shift to the either ends, now this results in a good looking vase however having that geometry over on top of each other is going to be bad and will be difficult to replicate what he has done
    another thing I noticed is that all of his layers are pointed to the top right of the screen but when I did that it didn't do that for me, the reason it worked for him is because the light is also to the top right so shifting your lighting will help a lot
    and in section 47:45 it'll be hard to tell where the layers are for some people I recommend to switch between constant and b spline, use constant to see the layers clearly and b spline to see the colours better
    Hope this helped going to the next video ;)

    This is such a great step by step tutorial! Thank you for taking the time for creating this!
    The whole Main Color Shader section chapter in at the 55:00 point can be shortened without adding ANY of the additional ColorRamps or Mix nodes though. Add the multiple colours like you did with the Shading the Scene - Background chapter. Instead of changing the Interpolation from Linear to B-Spline, change it from Linear to Constant, and that's it!
    Unless you are achieving another effect that I don't see, it's way less work and nodes, and uses the same method as you did before!

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks so much for checking it out! You can definitely do that set up for a quick toon shader. Unfortunately, I missed a quick step in mentioning that the Separate RGB node allows us to color with light more precisely by taking in RGB color information. So, if we were to set one of our lights to red or green, it would show up to the color we specified in our shader. I hope that makes sense!

    Make sure at 32:50 that all the planes (objects) that you created are selected and hold "Alt" while ticking the subdivision surface modifier on. That way the modifier shows on all the planes (objects) that you selected.

    at 54:00 you will not find Shader to RGB, if you are using cycles. There are to ways to go around this: First: Just switch to Eevee under the render settings > Render Engine > Eevee or the second way, if you want to use Cycles use a Toon BSDF. Great tutorial btw

    at 1:00:00 if the outline is super wierd, click the icon left of the viewport shading icons (looks like 2 circles, one is filled) and go to the drop down menu. Check the box "face orientation". Now everything should turn blue and red. Go into edit mode and select all red faces. Click "mesh" right of the different modes > Normals > Flip. Then uncheck the face orientation again. If you didnt understand some of this, just google flip face orientation

  • @Ann-fo3pz
    @Ann-fo3pz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, this is such a cool look with the outlines, thank you for sharing tutorials! Do you know how those outlines could work on a rigged and animated character? And is there an option to make the outlines like a wabbly sketchy style? :)

    • @kevandram
      @kevandram  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks so much! For the outlines on the meshes, since it goes by normals, they should work at any angle. To make those lines wobbly, you can try adding a subtle displacement modifier on it to give the surface some texture. You can also rig grease pencil objects if you'd like as well. To get those to wobbly, you could add a noise modifier on the outlines. Hope that helps!

    I'm learning blender currently and have gathered a ton of paid courses and this is of higher quality than all of them you should be charging for this or open a patreon so ppl can give what they can if you'r more into that ( I think blenders community fits this model more tbh). Anyway well done 👍

    For perfect accuracy when adding a cursor to the center of a face:
    Tab to edit mode
    switch to face select
    Click on the face you want and hit shift+s
    You can then select "set cursor to selected"
