I started saving money to buy my own horse after high school.... If you guys really want a horse my advice is to believe that u will have that horse.. u dont have to look now for horse cause maybe you will buy a horse later. When u want a horse and u are ready to buy it then start looking for a horse :)
Equine Elizabeth yes! I trapped myself into falling in love with a horse before I could afford one... it wasn't fun letting myself down.
The Horse Dream i know how you feel,, u can always save a horse from a horse shelter u dont have to buy it.. i know that horse need a lot of money but its ok to start small. u dont have to buy all at once. go little by little. i lease my horse now maybe ill buy him one day ,, i never know .. :)

Awesome tips! It's not always easy to pay for owning/leasing/taking lessons, so I would recommend being grateful to your parents for whatever they are able to provide. Don't demand horse ownership--work for it!

I really enjoyes this. I had to do this when I was 25 & working full time. I had to sell my first horse to retire him & I bought a baby six months later. Why I did, I have no clue, but now he is 8 & is my heart horse. I have had to budget like crazy, lots of time, saving up for tack, damn emergency vet bills, shop at thrift shops, buy used tack, farrier, shoes, umm, board, shows, etc... It is very hard paying for everything for him & still paying rent, cell phone, car payment, electric, human food, cat food, etc...
Because we can't afford to lease or co-board, I exercise horses at the barn. So whenever an owner is out of town, I take the horse out, ride, feed, groom, make sure they get turned out, and make sure they have water. So it's kind of like owning a different horse every weekend :P
Luna is so beautiful!!!!!!!!!! She's one of best looking horses I've seen!!!!!!
I just wanted to say that you really inspire me, I only started riding at 11 and I thought I would never be as good as people that started younger and now compeat and have their own horses but you started later and your amazing so thankyou xx
another tip you can use is... share or lease a horse with another person and then you can save money because it is less time consuming and cheaper because you split everything!

I have been bugging my parents for a horse since I learned what they are (really little) and now I am 11 almost 12 and I have 2 horses.😁 I have been riding the horses that I now own for almost 8 years (they were my grandmas so I got them for 'free')
I have been riding since I was 5 and working in stables since I was 16 and my parents always said I could get a horse when I was 18 and paid for it myself, even though I tried everything to let me get one before then, they probably expected me to grow out of the horse 'phase'...5 days after my 18th birthday we went to see the pony I bought😂❤️

I've been riding 10 years and trying to convince my parents for 2 and they're still saying no😥 I get to do pony camp for my birthday every year and I work at my barn for free lessons!! I also used to look after someone's horse and she was basically mine but free! Then she was sold but hopefully I'll be able to get one when I'm old enough to get a full time job

I got my horse at 13, I am now 14. But since the beginning we've had problems- I had a bad fall and he's been lame for a while now.. now it's summer vacation and I can't ride and that sucks. I wish things would be easier for me and him

Nice video. Here in the Netherlands it can sometimes be possible to care for a horse without paying money. But you have to search for a good place! Usually this works when you just ring the frontdoor Bell and ask 😁👍🏻. I mean sure you will get no sometimes. But you only Need one yes Anyways 😁💪🏻.

This is just a general question for any one who owns a horse, but were your parents/legal guardians already a part of the 'equestrian business/world' before you got a horse??? So do they have previous yard experience, or did they own a horse when they were younger or maybe they own one now? I would love to get a horse but I know that it will never be a priority or option with my parents as they don't have any experience (apart from my mum when she was very young) and so they don't fully understand what owning a horse means and so they will not let me buy or fully loan one. I'm part loaning a horse now (which is more than I ever could have hoped for) but I just wonder if owning a horse whilst still being dependent on my parents will ever be an option.
eleanor barker Since I was young I had always wanted a horse, but neither of my parents knew anything about horses. That being said, it is certainly possible to own a horse while still dependent on your parents. Thankfully, we live out in the country so when we finally got a horse we were able to keep it at home (which makes it more affordable because we don't have to pay for board). Keep showing that you're interested in horse ownership and like Maya said, you might even have to work for it too (I work to pay for my horses) Best of luck!

I've recently started to work at my local riding school so hopefully that will allow me to save up more and show my parents that I am committed. Thank you for the advice tho, it might take a while but I'll get there eventually.
eleanor barker I just got my first horse and my parents would have never sat on a horse in their lives unless I begged to do trail rides on vacation! If they see your commitment and passion that will help them to see that you should get a horse!

Also anyone else feel like they can't pb/ lease because you're not "good enough" Like I've been doing lessons for 7 years but I'm lowkey a shit rider 😂 and compared to all the leaders at my barn I literally do uneducated 😂
PawsAndTails127 this depends. When I still went to school and had a job this meant I sometimes went at very late and early times to my horse. It's all about how dedicated you are. And sure there where girls on my stable who didn't come to the horse on their busy days But I dont think that's fair. Now I work on daytime. In the winter this means I've got to muck out in the dark. But hey this is something I want. So nomather How hard it can be. I'll find time and joy to go ❤️👏🏻.

What you could do is get a friend who rides to ride your horse once a week just so they don't get fat 😂 then you could ride your horse the others days ya feel me? Or you could lease! Like honestly I'm a pretty garbage rider too but what you could also do is lease because it's cheaper, you don't need to be an AMAZING rider, and also because you don't need to ride every day. Idk but I personally find it hard to find horses to lease, like some are so pricey that you might as well buy them 😂
