Serena is a true legend. She is really missed. I used to watch tennis just because of her 💕
I find it strange how Sharapova is more accomplished than Azarenka and yet Azarenka was the one who tested Serena more whereas Sharapova always got beaten left, right and centre by Serena
I think, because Azarenka had better movement
And because Sharapova only had one game plan; to hit hard flat balls to overpower her opponents, her game is too one dimensional

Tennis is a game of match-ups. Alize Cornet has a 3-4 h2h vs Serena and in general always gave Serena problems but she is nowhere near as accomplished as Maria.
Serena struggled a bit with players that played with a lot of variety and bit of an old school game, whereas Maria played the same brand of tennis as Serena, but wasn’t as good.
I think Maria mentioned that after she beat Serena at Wimbledon, she saw how badly affected Serena was. So I think every time Serena sees Maria, she wants revenge. And that probably affected Maria’s mindset and her game.
That 2010 Australian open match is still one of my fave Serena matches. Just unbelievable. After she almost got beaten by Vika the year before on the same tournament.
I’ll never forget turning the channel during that match because I couldn’t bare the beatdown…then I cam back to be put out if my misery and she was close to winning 😂
@@ajollypanda4175 omg same. I tuned it off during the second set. I checked the score on my phone a little later and shocked that there was a third set. So I watched the whole thing again and again.
2000 - 2017 were some of the WTA's best years. Every top 10 player was challenging and hella entertaining to watch. Serena, Li Na, Sharapova, Venus, Victoria, Halep, J. Henin, Clijsters, Radwańska, Jelena Janković ...etc
2009-17 had only clown fields.
You just have to look at which mugs were #1 - Jankovic, Safina, Wozniacki, Azarenka, Kerber, Pliskova, Muguruza. Truly a kist from hell and an embarrassment for women‘s tennis.
Would not have been remotely possible in the Golden Age (mid-70 to mid-90s).
Damn she was ruthless whenever she played Azarenka. i wish she got that back these last few years... she would have probably reached GS #30

You can really tell serenas level changed after birth almost like she couldn't find gear 6. And before olympia she could easily level up her game
Tbh I think Serena never really gained her full fitness till AO 21.
And cause of the loses at grand slam after Olympia she wasn’t mentally strong enough, plus the pressure of reaching 24.. affected her the most.
Serena could not have it all, she wanted to be a full time mother, and an athlete added to the pregnancy/ birth complications she experienced she never found that grand slam winning level again.
And it’s a shame, cause if she had really worked on her fitness instead of rushing back to competition she could have won a few grand slams, but her body needed time and she rushed it. She’d needed to train harder and longer. But it hard when you’ve had a life threatening child birth and wanting to be a mother who never spends a day without her child beside her.
I think if she could have worked on training and being disciplined more (away from Olympia) she would have won more grand slams. But it’s harder been a mother, than a father.
I said the same thing but like I said in the AO 2021 she really was almost there with fitness but you defiantly can see the difference. I was just saying man Serena was soooooooo good but remember now she's just operating on what 75-80 percent of her lungs

Serena sustained a tendon injury in that match and struggled to get over the line after that. It was the same injury that forced her to pull out of the French Open, which was after the US Open that year.
Ikr. Give Victoria credit though...she turned it around after getting whooped in the 1st set

@@ak-xp4hp yeah she def should have won. Saw it live. Almost choked the US open that year. This is why I always say it's not really her fitness after childbirth it's her mind. That mental strength has stayed in 2nd gear since coming back. Except that match with Vika in Indian Wells 2019

@@black_nebula yup but i think the lack of fitness definitely affects her confidence ; alot of balls she could get to and hit on the run or make defensive plays in the past where turned into forced errors
one thing about Vichka, she always knew how tu put on a fight with Serena

Azarenka has a career winning percentage of 71 %, Venus of 75 %.
With that neither is among the top 20 of the open era.

After the arrogance of Sharapova in the 2004 wimbledon win, it was for ever a done deal for her as far as Serena was concerned. Sharapova was retired by Serena without a win and it destroyed her reputation for ever...Sharapova will for ever regret calling Serena a man...
My favorite matches were always between those two. Vika was always ready for a fight!

Well this channel is full with serena stupid diehard fans. They cant stand watching serena lose. Thats why AO and recently wimbledon uploading full match and extended highlight when serena lose. 🤣🤣🤣

Serena was the greatest strategist of all tennis. She will entice opponents with a first set win then demoralized them and using the same stone to charmaz funs and audience with a three set play...coming from a set down to win is like stolen sex...always sweetie due to its endued environment...a win for audience, a booster for the morale of the opponent and a win for the champion!!!
