@@regworld1167 come on, Maria has been an icon for tennis and for sport in general. Millions liked and like her. I like her, even though I am sorry for her for the whole meldonium situation. In particular for her unsuccessful return and subsequent retirement. Serena has always been a much better tennis player, nonetheless I enjoyed Maria's game: her angles, her way to turn defense into offense, her backhand! She will be missed, with her 5 GS and not only, one of the great of all times!

But maybe that's the real champion mindset, alway treating the other players like enemies. I don't want to justify her, I am not even a huge fan, but based on her successes inside and outside the court, jealousies and hate are behind the corner...
She gave birth on Dec 20th, so either not yet pregnant or max 1-2 weeks. But she also won Miami to complete the sunshine double 2 weeks later. Also played the full clay court season. Did not win too many matches, FO she retired down 0-4 in the 3rd set and that was the end of her season.
