At the present time I am painting with acrylic paints, so is this recipe with the oil compatible with mixing with titanium white acrylic paint? Hello. I live in France and you make my day. Liquid white is very expansive and it's not easy to find it. So i use your video to make it. I use Oil LefrancBourgeois with white paint Gamblin. It works very well. Thanks a lot.
Thank you so very much! Finding anything from the original Bob Ross' brand in Canada is literally impossible, and I am so excited to try out this custom recipe.
I love that you helped! I have been looking for a recipe, specifically a recipe that costs less to make than OEM but acts the same. The only reasons somebody would want to make is: a)It is not available; b)to save money; c)you just did run out before coating canvas.
What kind of linseed oil is it? I have seen... 1: refined linseed 2: klean-strip boiled linseed 3: sunny side raw linseed They have so many I just want to pick the correct one
1. I heard linseed oil makes Titanium White stiffen. Would stand oil be a better option? 2. How do you make Magic/Liquid White with water miscible oils? 3. Some people just apply a thin layer of linseed oil to the canvas first, then follow with a thin layer of Titanium White, blending them directly on the canvas. What do you think of that option? Edit: Hey, I just noticed your linseed oil IS water miscible (Artisan).
1. Most oil based mediums will increase the "Flow" of the paint. Linseed falls into this category. If you are looking to stiffen paint your would want an impasto medium. There are a bunch of different oil mediums you can use for the recipe. I recommend linseed due to the fact it is easily accessible for most people. 2. Check out my water mixable oil video ( I think I answer that there) 3. You can do that, I do a similar technique when I paint on a black or toned canvas & it works well - I hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else. Happy painting 💪

I do understand that you want to use the most reflective paint as titanium, but i would use zink white for a different reason. Titanium changes the hue whereas zink is more forgiving and just raises the light. Why ? Because if you put in reds ( as an example) titanium makes a blueberry pink red whereas zink makes a bright red. This can really mess up the colors and since many start like this, it can be hard for an untrained eye to correct the values
i started watching bob ross many years and he told every one how he made it and said it was done with oderlass terps and white paint you need to go back to the 1970s to get the mix I used to watch the tv as it came on the teaching programs on bbc2 in northern Ireland at 7am
Can this be used for Acrylic Painting? If not, what are other ingredients simmilar to magic white? Also if liquid clear is enough, how do i make it? I am sorry for my long question because i am trying to make a painting.
Thx for the info. ..! Is there a formula for liq. clear, or is it basically linseed oil..? BTW, what about a formula for liq. white, and clear, for Water Mixable Oils, do you just use water for the mixing/ thinning of the white,or do they make a WM Linseed oil that would be used?
I am still researching the liquid clear formula ( find mixed answers on it still) - When I find it I will post the video on my new YT art Channel ( WildCreates ) As for the water mixable LW and LC - You can see a video for that here ( th-cam.com/video/c6ISb-xRCVs/w-d-xo.html ) I talk about water soluble mediums & paints. That should help you out.
Wild4games, I've seen labels that say purified linseed oil, linseed oil, boiled linseed oil etc. Is any one type better than another? Is there any particular one that should not be used to make the liquid white? Thank for your help!
Thank you so much for this video! But I have one simple question: I am using this white instead of Gesso? I'painting a lot with oil and I want to try the bob ross paintings now. Really appreciate your help😊

The question I have never found the answer to is how they make white in the first place when the primary colours are red, yellow and blue. No matter how much I mix them I can never make a white, or even a light grey. Any ideas? Thanks.
Thats because there are more than 1 color scale - Your example is based of what we learned in elementary school with light. Would it be possible to use something like liquin so it dries faster? I want to try mixing techniques and do a Ross style first layer with more traditional style details, and I don't feel like waiting a month for the thing to dry before applying my second layer.
Wild I've just started painting and so glad I found your youtube videos! This must be a very stupid question to ask but.... Do you start painting after the "Bro white" has dried or when it is still wet? Thank you. I found my answer as I explored more of your videos. Awesome, I am going to love your site!
Richard Cartmell you paint over it while it is still wet! Oil paints can take hours some time even days to dry. But when painting over it while it is still wet allows you to create that seamless blend 🤗

@jackboyd147 Thanks for watching I have a new art channel ( th-cam.com/users/wildcreates ) Feel free to follow there :)

For the titanium white, is acrylic or oil??
Oil paint for this video

Yes - it will dey a lot faster though

i know liquid white is used for oils but can you use it as an acrylic base too??!?!!! like does it blend well on acrylic too!?
Bro White - you're Bro Gold! Thank you so much for this brilliant tip.
Ha ha ha - Thanks buddy 💪
Can this be used for Acrylic Painting? If not, what are other ingredients simmilar to magic white? Also if liquid clear is enough, how do i make it? I am sorry for my long question because i am trying to make a painting.
Thanks now I am hoping to start with the Bob Ross technique, fingers crossed. X

I am still researching the liquid clear formula ( find mixed answers on it still) - When I find it I will post the video on my new YT art Channel ( WildCreates )
As for the water mixable LW and LC - You can see a video for that here ( th-cam.com/video/c6ISb-xRCVs/w-d-xo.html ) I talk about water soluble mediums & paints. That should help you out.
Wild4games, I've seen labels that say purified linseed oil, linseed oil, boiled linseed oil etc. Is any one type better than another? Is there any particular one that should not be used to make the liquid white? Thank for your help!
I would stay away from boiled... Its has slightly different drying styles and it will add a yellow tint to your white paint 💪
Thank you so much for this video! But I have one simple question: I am using this white instead of Gesso? I'painting a lot with oil and I want to try the bob ross paintings now. Really appreciate your help😊
You don't have to use gesso with liquid white but I would recommend it. I have started another channel where I'm posting my art videos if you'd like to check it out.

Can you make a video how to Paint Over wood palete ? I need to Paint it before with white ? Or isolated before with varnish ?
Thank You Wild! Works very well.
💪Happy Painting💪
I am glad that I could help you out on your Painting Adventure. Thanks for watching 💪
Thanks for a nice video bro. Have you made any video on Bob Ross style easel? Because it's not available outside USA, my request is that if you could plz film a video in which you show the easel in close shots so we would be able to build it here. Thanks
Sadly I do not own one. I would like to get one at some point when I have some extra funds. When I do I will be more than happy to make a video about it.
Wild4Games I'd be highly obliged..
Not gonna leave a comment..hehe.thanks for this useful video! Ok I will comment. Thanks again.

I use water mixable oil paints due to health concerns...any suggestions/recipes for a water mixable bro white?..thanks in advance, great channel!
So after you put the liquid white on your canvas, do you let it dry a little or start painting right away?
Yes - You can start painting right away.
this is a great recipe thank you. how do you make liquid clear?
Does it dry?🤔🤨
And what kind of paint do you use?🤔🤨
Can I use it with acrylic paint?🤔🤨
Please help me
hi Wild, how does this compare to the Gamblin solvent free gel recipe on your other channel?
Question: can the Bob Ross wet-on-wet techniques be done with water mixable oils?
Yes you can! Thanks for watching! I have a new channel where I'm posting all my art videos if you are interested
th-cam.com/channels/J0nGU-oZthfagTyVVXiVQA.html
Also, to mix a large amount of this (Magic) stuff. Get a small paddle for drill mixing a gallon of paint! Set the drill on low instead of a hand stick! SHAZAM!!!
Great Idea - I do this when I mix epoxy.
Dale Cole Thanks for watching I have a new art channel ( th-cam.com/users/wildcreates ) Feel free to follow there :)
Does this only work for oills? Can it be used for acrylics too? I watched Bob Ross religiously as a kid but always used watercolors or acrylics. I always assumed "liquid white" was just gesso.
You can do it with acrylics but you will need a different medium and work in small sections... since acrylic is fast drying. If you are interested in more videos from me I am starting a new Art channel next week - You can find it here ( th-cam.com/channels/J0nGU-oZthfagTyVVXiVQA.html ) Happy painting!
Can i use other oil such as baby oil or like oil we usually eat? Or only linseed oil
Which lynseed oil should you use for this? Does the type matter?
Thank you very much for this tutorial. Very informative!
Thanks for watching. I hope that it helps you on your painting adventure.
TIs a super long answer so Google color scales (additive and subtractive) there you will see all the info, research and lessons of how it works behind it.
If you want any more tips, I started a new Art channel ( th-cam.com/channels/J0nGU-oZthfagTyVVXiVQA.html ) feel free to sub there :)
This is my kingdom come
What is the titanium white? Is it acrylic or oil paint? It looks like the acrylic from Michaels but just wanted to make sure.
It can be oil or acrylic. Its just a name that mostly refers to the most reflective white.
If you need anymore help I started a new art channel ( th-cam.com/channels/J0nGU-oZthfagTyVVXiVQA.html ) feel free to sub there :)
Can you add olive!oil isteed of linseed oil?
So, would boiled linseed oil be appropriate to use also? Cause I've got plenty of that stuff already.
Thank you 💓
this is awesome , thanks you ......... i have a question in this bob ross style : if i start a painting ... apply liquid white ..... paint half the painting and come back in a day or 2 after the paint dries ...... can i resume ? or do i need to do the whole thing in 1 sitting ?
Yeah you can resume - You may need to re-wet the canvas a little ( But thats easy to do )
@@Wild4 thanks man , do i rewet with a light coat of liquid clear ? can i just wipe that on top of the whole painting to restart or will it smear the dry paint ?
You can use clear or white ( your pick ) only apply it to the parts that need to be finished 💪
@@Wild4 thank you for helping me . i dont know or have anyone around me to get info and advice so i appreciate you bro XD
If you use waterbased oilpaint, can you use water instead of linseed oil to make your magic white?
You dont wanna use water you wanna use a water soluble medium.
I have a video explain it on my New art channel. give it a look
Link: th-cam.com/video/c6ISb-xRCVs/w-d-xo.html
I just saw my liquid white said ”acrylic” on it ..but its from bob ross brand, do you know if there is a difference?
Did you use a titanium white acrylic or oil?
Can you use oil white or acrylic white
Can you use any kind of oil, if you don't have any linseed oil?
Is the titanium whit oil or in acrylic or poster???
Did not know it was that easy.
Glad to help you out 💪
Hey, i am a complete noob to oil painting want to understand if one can mix using turpentine to create this.
Can i use olive or cookin oil instead of linseed oil?
Can I use acrylic titanium white and also is liquid white only used for for oil paints or is it used for acrylic as well?
For wet on wet painting - Liquid white is only used with oil paints
Can I use this one for acrylic painting
Can you use cooking oil or baby oil?? Please tell me🙂🙂
Can't confirm if it will work - If you are having trouble finding linseed oil. You can use walnut or poppy oil in its place.
If you need any more help, I have a new art channel that I just launched ( th-cam.com/channels/J0nGU-oZthfagTyVVXiVQA.html ) feel free to sub there :)
Wild4Games thank you!😁😁
no problem. Glad to help :)
Wha- I’m in America and none of the art stores I’m near have any of the Bob Ross products
Maxon Wolf try Hobby Lobby if you have any nearby.
Sheila Lewis-Lorum I checked there too. Nothing either.
@@maxonwolf5841 same last time I went I didn't see any
Would it be possible to use something like liquin so it dries faster? I want to try mixing techniques and do a Ross style first layer with more traditional style details, and I don't feel like waiting a month for the thing to dry before applying my second layer.
I wonder if it's more cost effective to make our liquid white than buying it.
Thanks for the video.
Yes usually it is much more cost effective. Thanks for sharing!
Bro white???? Lol...dude, you’re a genius! ❤️❤️❤️
Ha ha ha totally trademarked by the way 😜. Thanks for watching.
You should usually paint straight after you apply it. This makes it easier to blend directly onto the canvas
