Quick note though, the art book that came out for Gravity Falls was made without the team's knowing until after the fact. There's even a screen cap in the book that still has a quick time player bar at the bottom. Alex doesn't hold a grudge about it, but it's still worth considering.

My personal head-canon for Bill's past is that he saw the 3rd dimension, was rejected and shunned by his fellow 2D shapes, and worked to create a portal to the new dimension he saw only to warp his home dimension and everyone in it beyond repair. That way, he sees himself in Ford and tries to "guide" him into repeating the steps that led to Bill's "freedom" as a fellow freak and outcast.
It all depends on how it is done. If they are really good at getting into the character's headspace and enjoy doing the bit, then for the most, its enjoyable. If they don't even try to do that and are just doing it to follow a trend, then its noticeable by the majority of people.
What makes Bill Cipher a great "Chaos God" character is that he can and WILL both follow and enforce rules, even if they don't benefit him! It actually makes him creepier, since his adherence to rules actually makes him LESS predictable! Also, I'm 99% certain that when he conned Dipper into getting his body, the computer wasn't ACTUALLY counting down. He just made Dipper dream to think it was!
I really dig your take on Bill. I didn't pick up on the "freak like me" angle on my initial viewing of the finale, and you're right that it's very telling of who he is behind all the bluster. I wouldn't want a redemption arc personally (it's the Steven Universe debate all over again) but if done well I'd still find it interesting.
One of my favorite additions to Gravity Falls is the Axolotl's poem on Bill because I think it informs a lot about Bill, "Saw his own dimension burn. Misses home and can't return. Says he's happy. He's a liar. Blame the arson for the fire." Bill pretends to be happy with his choices even bragging about it to Ford, but what he really wants is to go home. Unfortunately, that's not an option, that place is gone and it's his fault. All he can do is solider on looking for someplace where he feels that he will belong.
5:58 I think Bill did this, because he knew it would lead to Dipper getting closer to Ford and would start a rift between Dipper and Mable causing her to be desperate enough to give Bill possessing Blendin what he wants. We know he can at least somewhat see into the future, so he probably knew it would happen.
Personal head-canon about Bill's backstory based on everything we know: He was seen as a freak in his home dimension and treated awfully because of it (Reddit AMA Takeover based on Flatland), destroyed dimension on purpose due to this, killing everyone including parents (and possible brother), and went around the multiverse destroying other dimensions and making those so called "friends". He's broken and slightly guilty about destroying his home but ignores it and puts on an act (Axototl's prophecy/rhyme).
The channel takeover stuff always depends on how it’s done. Sometimes such skits are funny, sometimes they’re… I don’t like the phrase “cringy,” but no better word can describe that stuff. In this case, it’s well done, and doesn’t wear out it’s welcome. Good work as always Stuart! Also this nerd nodded off mid-comment! He really shouldn’t have “jokingly” read that invisible ink passage of the official book out loud! Bill here to point out, that as stated in that book, that I did make a deal with that sqeaky-voiced time loser to get rid of his Time Baby boss so long as I joyride his body! And I made good on my word, as you can see!
The interesting thing about bill ciphers possible redemption arc. Is that it is just as likely that he reincarnated as uncle Stan from gravity falls as he could’ve been reincarnated as King from the owl house. Both are voiced by the same guy The Voice bill, and both shows are connected along with Amphibia. And that’s not just because they were all made by the same people. There’s all sorts of Easter eggs and clues the point to them all being connected.
interesting theory however I don't think that's the case, The Titan that laid King's egg has been dead for hundreds of millions of years based on the fact that when Luz was time traveling she saw that the Boiling Isles used to have magic dinosaurs, volcanos everywhere, and an atmosphere that she couldn't breathe not to mention even when Witch's finally started popping up they still had to eventually evolve the bile sacks that they have in more modern times Gravity Falls takes place in 2012 and Owl House takes place in 2020, I doubt Bill would be able to be reincarnated as King unless the Titan can lay eggs even while it's dead. also fun fact, by this point its all but confirmed that Gravity Falls, Amphibia, and Owl House all take place in the same setting, we see the Owl House in Amphibia when scientists are playing with Interdimensional travel, we see an alternate dimension Stan and Soos in Amphibia and they just spell out that people can exist across multiple dimensions, and Anne gets a small cameo in the season 2 finale of Owl House that references the Amphibia Series finale, there are a ton more but these are the ones that basically confirm it.
@@Kai-Seirre what about Edge of the world? if you are trying to imply that the Titan Trapper named Bill is a reincarnation of Bill from Gravity Falls I don't think that works, Bill died around 8 years ago so Witch Bill would be 8 years old if he was a reincarnation. at best Bill could be an alternate dimension Counterpart like Mr. Ponds and Frog Soos, but Bill the Titan Trapper isn't really like Gravity Fall Bills in the slightest beyond sharing a name and voice actor.

Also the evil character takeover thing, sometimes works sometimes doesn’t. I think it was alright here.
Rearranging every orpheus on Mr. Northwest's face. Chaotic Evil, even though he deserved it. Changing that guy's coffee to decaf during the unused song. Five dings for Chaotic Evil.
I know that there are a lot of games to go through, but I think it would be cool to see what D&D alignment is Agent 47 from the Hitman series especially after the more recent games gave him a new character arc.
Like anything but Chaotic Evil seems like a stretch to try and put on this character. You first and likely last mistake is trusting Bill. he may uphold his side of the deals, but that may either just be how deals work or because he has fun doing that. Think it might slip for some that Bill only makes the deal with Gideon, because he wants to get the portal up and running again. You see the real Stan flash buy in him, symbolizing him making the connection to how Gideon can be of use.
In total bill keeps 100% of his deals, he will give you exactly what you agreed to. That's the problem, just like alot of devils in mythology, he gives you EXACTLY what you asked for, if it's not specified he will do what he wants. And bills a bit of a jerk on this front as he rarely makes deals the other way around, he's almost always setting out the conditions (I believe the finale is the only deal that someone else proposes) So he's lawful to a degree, but only such that he never breaks his word, other than that he's pure chaotic evil.
Technically gideon proposed a deal to bill too, since Bills response is "sure, I'll help you out and you can help me out with something later" as his condition to agreeing.
"A X O L O T L MY TIME HAS COME TO BURN, I INVOKE THE ANCUENT POWERS THAT I MAY RETURN!!!" I posit this: that in a twist of cosmic Justice, bill's deal with the Axolotl was twisted against him, by the vaugeness of it. He didn't specify if he would be the same when he returned, nor when or how. and so, I posit that the Axolotl returned him- as the infant that would one day become Grunkle Stan; similar personality, but none of the memories or cosmic powers, Just a Return- as that's all he asked for. Perhaps, even, _A redemption arc._

10:53 actually the blue square was a throw about the side character "tad strange" because the creators during a bill themed q n a had bill say he was kind of a square, and henceforth theories ensued
The youtuber take overs usually only work when they're a surprise and you're not expecting it. For example when you got Mumkey to do that whole Chara monologue in your undertale vid, that was a surprisem that you were going to be doing that bit for the Undertale and Deltarune vids. If it's one of those things that gets telegraphed a lot in advance, like with a meta character like Bill it doesn't really hit as well, since you're expecting it, also it can be frustrating if it gets in the way of the actual content.
There is evidence to support a theory that Bill would be reborn in the past as Stanley, I like that theory because it would mean that the only person able to trick Bill is himself.
IMO Bill is Neutral Evil because he always keeps his promises to the best of his abilities, and works within the confines of the deal, but causes legitimate chaos as well, he does this for his own benefit.
It's rather debatable who Bill turned into or where he went in time. I could see it being Gruncle Stan but not really. They never really mentioned him losing his memories and Alex Hirsch said himself he kept the entire what happened Bill thing vague because if he ever wanted to revisit Gravity Falls or just the characters again he'd need an entry point. So I don't think we've seen who Bill turned into at all. Now for us Owl House fans I don't think he'll be revealed as King simply because we have 3 episodes each at 45 minutes for the entirety of season 3. If anything Bill would work better as the Collector as he has ridiculously strong powers, has a chaotic personality, and was trapped by something stronger than him in that mirror. If Bill did reincarnate into the Collector it would make sense if the Axolotl trapped him in there after seeing him do exactly what he did as Bill. Although 2 hours wouldn't really do service to Bill and the show as they need to figure it out, then beat him, bring a conclusion to the character or leave it open-ended again, and bring a conclusion to the series as a whole. So while I would've loved to see Bill in the Owl House (or anything in general) I just don't think he'll be in there since it was canceled, but allowed to provide a conclusion to the story. Like I feel Bill was intended to be in the Owl House because everything about that world is weird like him, but they had to cut it due to time.
If my younger teen self had deity level Powers bill is probably a good example of what I would have ended up like obviously I'd still have a caring soft spot for my family but other than that everything else can pretty much go to insanity However nowadays the answer is a lot more complex but regardless it's interesting looking at this character and seeing a younger version of myself I could definitely tell why this is one of my favorite characters growing up
Yeah, Bill being a twisted entity is pretty evident from his design. He's literally the All Seeing Eye of God on the dollar bill. Which in and of itself has been twisted into a symbol for the Illuminati. In fact the parallels make him a decent allegory of the Devil. Spoilery~ Speculation below. Bill's cry to the Axolotl at his demise and the explanation from the shot at redemption the Axolotl explains to the Pine twins in a comic makes it seem like he does become a new being; Gruncle Stan. It would explain why Bill is able to move so freely around on his mind, why Gruncle Stan has such control over his mind despite not having any training, and a plethora of other similarities between the two. Essentially he is given the ultimate redemption by effectively defeating himself and allowing his new "less" flawed self to destroy his old, twisted self.
It probably wouldn't get many views, but doing Gunvolt, Copen and the upcoming Kirin from Azure Striker Gunvolt might make for a fun 3-parter. In terms of something that wouldn't starve a starving artist further, Dewey Finn from School of Rock not only sounds fun, but also interesting.
I think a good takeover is about 1-2 per season/year. It's kinda like a holiday; when it rolls around, it's great, but if it was everyday, people would get sick of it.
Here's the thing, when content creators do the show takeover thing, they tend to try *way too hard* to be crazy and in-your-face. Like, that Chara thing at the end of your first Undertale vid was weird and sorta cool, but I definitely wouldn't want an entire episode around it because it would get way too old, way too fast. It's best the way you did it with Bill here, a minute-long one-off joke and that's it. Bill is freggin amazing, such a great villain. The show had a fun family asethetic most of the time, but always had a dark undercurrent of weird pulpy horror. Those undertones always came to the foreground when Bill was present, and during the series finale, transitioned into full cosmic horror story, all centered around this utterly monstrous creature. Good times :)
The take over troupe is a bit out done. Fun when it's a rare treat done well. But whenever you watch a video about the same 5 characters being the same thing
The dream Fort has wasn't influenced by Bill. It was simply a nightmare, or at least, what Fort fears might happen if he doesn't do anything to prevent it. Bill is never shown to be actively cruel enough to just be a dick for no reason, also if he had full access to Stanforts dreams he wouldn't just leave it at that. My idea is that we, like Fort, are supposed to interpret whether or not the Cipher in the dream is real or not.
Hate the hostile takeover trope. Also I love how bill did honored his deal with dipper by breaking the laptop and thus giving him a lead on the owner. Bill always honors his word in a way.
well yeah, takeovers are great but normally needed to be part of the episode not all of it... like bill taking over but get bored and leave...and sometimes pop open to correct you or something like that.... also Alignment Pure Chaos it doesn't exist but bill made it

11:04 ive got to disagree here, this act of bill seems more like him making fun of ford, because his sixth finger is something that ford isnt exactly proud of, and calling him a freak while laughting seems more like bullying him than actual respect
I don't think I noticed how often bill blatantly stated his intentions to kill people until this video(i figured it was more an implied thing) but yea wow. extra surprising considering the stuff that was disputed being put in. like this triangle says he wants to murder children but a kissing joke, that is too far

Like I feel Bill was intended to be in the Owl House because everything about that world is weird like him, but they had to cut it due to time.
i’d call him lawfully chaotic evil because he uses contracts and deals but is the most chaotic shit ever
Bill helped me get my CCL and gave me 1 box of 10mm. What a nice guy.
Fun fact, belndons deal was that time baby wouldn't bother him anymore
so excited to see that it was the 18th!
Loved it. Can't wait for the next one!
10:53 which is mentioned in the book of bill
Not the book would do much to change his current status besides adding more chaotic evil things
He's chaotic evil. But I'm still gonna watch this because I love me some gravity falls
PFFFTTTT THE FORKS ON THE ARM THIS IS BRILLIANT
3:15
For anyone looking to skip to what we came for.
It’s Bill. He’s like, the FACE of Chaotic Evil.
I can't wait for next time. Stan's got so many Nat 20 scenes, including the "I can swear for real!" moment
Bro, Bill's stats would be BROKEN! Oh, this is gonna be good.
I just started watching gravity falls the other day and I’m surprised how much fun this show is
Bill is such a cool guy that he once took care of my dog.
I really like takeovers.
So she says to me, "This wasn't part of the deal!" and I'm all like "Hey, not my fault you never read Faust.".
If my younger teen self had deity level Powers bill is probably a good example of what I would have ended up like obviously I'd still have a caring soft spot for my family but other than that everything else can pretty much go to insanity
However nowadays the answer is a lot more complex but regardless it's interesting looking at this character and seeing a younger version of myself I could definitely tell why this is one of my favorite characters growing up
love the same coin theory reference at the end. not enough people mention that.
Not watched the Video yet but my prediction will be:
Chaotic Evil
Bill’s the true hero of the story
The first thing I thought was chaotic evil.
I haven’t even watched it but I’m guessing it’s either lawful evil or chaotic evil
1:26 Haha 100 Year Quest let's go
Oh wow Bill Cipher is chaotic evil who could have seen that coming?
you see that view count tho?
Bill is such a good guy. I would love some takeovers. It wasn't billed falt at all. It wouldn't hold up in a court of law.
Also explains the weird similarities between their dialogues, like calling Ford "Sixer" or advising people to buy gold.
It's kinda like a holiday; when it rolls around, it's great, but if it was everyday, people would get sick of it.
youtuber takeovers can be fun
Good times :)
well i belive this sums me up quite nicely
before I even watched this I thought chaotic evil
I’m still waiting for Johnny 5, great video about Bill.
If bill can dissassemble the corporeal form of time itself, he probably could of broken out of the field
I think his ego bested him so he forgot to check Stan’s mind along with not naturally sensing it due to Stan’s willpower,
AND also the reincarnation of bill probably being Stan.
The take over troupe is a bit out done. Fun when it's a rare treat done well. But whenever you watch a video about the same 5 characters being the same thing
You would be retreading that ground, anyways Stuart. Remember Undertale/Delta Rune?
The dream Fort has wasn't influenced by Bill. It was simply a nightmare, or at least, what Fort fears might happen if he doesn't do anything to prevent it. Bill is never shown to be actively cruel enough to just be a dick for no reason, also if he had full access to Stanforts dreams he wouldn't just leave it at that. My idea is that we, like Fort, are supposed to interpret whether or not the Cipher in the dream is real or not.
Chaotically lawful evil.
Talking about body snacher villains, how about Xehanort the Sekker of dark... Child of destiny?
Hate the hostile takeover trope. Also I love how bill did honored his deal with dipper by breaking the laptop and thus giving him a lead on the owner. Bill always honors his word in a way.
I’m not gonna be a smart ass and point out specifics stuff that’s basically only in the physical book3, so regardless of that stuff, awesome video
I lost it when he said "and some people are Democrats" 1:41
incredibly based
well yeah, takeovers are great but normally needed to be part of the episode not all of it...
like bill taking over but get bored and leave...and sometimes pop open to correct you or something like that....
also Alignment Pure Chaos it doesn't exist but bill made it
What pre-tell is Bill’s redemption arc?
Oh I wonder what alignment bill could be?
Could we possibly, ,
Mega please, , Stuart sempa... Ok that's going to far ,
But since you showed the 100 years quest. It would be neat to do a quick general alinghment on the fairy tail cat .
At least the most prom members.
OH CRAEP BILL IS HERE
BILL WILL NEVER GET A REDEMTION!
i expected more Dings for lawful evil.
Guessing Chaotic Evil
11:04 ive got to disagree here, this act of bill seems more like him making fun of ford, because his sixth finger is something that ford isnt exactly proud of, and calling him a freak while laughting seems more like bullying him than actual respect
I don't think I noticed how often bill blatantly stated his intentions to kill people until this video(i figured it was more an implied thing) but yea wow. extra surprising considering the stuff that was disputed being put in. like this triangle says he wants to murder children but a kissing joke, that is too far
i think im still at season 1 of the show
