Ironically, this is what a life is like for a Raiders fan. So relatable. I just need to find that restaurant that has 2 entrees and a bottle if wine for $3.
Honestly some of the freshest stand up I've seen. Joe Pera is an amazing comedian, he makes you laugh but it can also be genuinely heartwarming stuff, a sort of positivity I've never seen before in comedy
God this still kills me all these years later. "And that's what receiver Stevie Johnson is thinking about... when he drops the ball in the end zone." Dead.
Nice. Also, I HAD to like your comment because the number was 666. I'm not superstitious or anything, but many people are and I wanted to be a martyr by changing that number.
Excellent comic timing. This sort of act takes a lot of practice. Each word is almost sung. It must take a lot of concentration. Most standup is about letting go and going wild, but this type of standup is an actor playing a role, reliving a care script, but making it look effortless. Very impressive.
Why are some Bills fans taking offense to this? Or saying things like "I'm a Bills fan and still find this funny"? This guy is from Buffalo. That's part of the joke. He knows what it's like.
His stories and voice are the personification of the feeling of walking out of a snow storm into a warm home, removing your cold, wet outer wear, petting a golden retriever, and walking into the loving embrace of your soul mate.
What I love bout Joe Pera is he never takes mean shots at people. His comedy is good, clean and wholesome. Something we could use more of these days. That being said, I still love some raunchy comedy, I love George Carlin but I also love Joe Pera.
I went to college with Joe and this comment is so accurate. He's truly a method actor. He became the character and is always thinking 20 steps ahead about how to maintain and improve the character. It's been amazing to watch how his career has rightfully blossomed. This bit is still the one I constantly come back to though, it's brilliant.
I think this is my favorite Joe Pera "joke". As shown in this clip, Joe Pera's jokes are often full stories that take time to develop. The subtleties and meticulous, thorough set up of the story is amazing, and it fully flushes out in the end. I think it's also a perfect of how Pera can look at things differently and appreciate the smaller, less obvious things in life. I hope he comes to a town near me soon!
Joe Pera is my Spirit Animal. I know that's cliche, but the dude has an amazing amount of charisma and dry humor that accentuate the sweetheart persona that he exudes.
The way he was "talking" the entire 2 minutes the sh-t noise was going on is hilarious. People, do you realize how funny you have to be to get a crowd worked up to where they literally sit there and laugh at a 2 minute fart track without getting annoyed or quiet after the 1st 30 or so seconds? 😂😂😂 extremely talented comedian
When I watched my first bills playoff loss with my grandpa, he said to me "son, now you can call yourself a Bills fan, because you know the disappointment" that being said. Bills Mafia let's go!!!
I like his sweater. I was a husky kid in grade school and mom got my sweaters in the husky section at Woolworths on 3rd Ave. The last time I was on a stage it was in my 3rd grade Christmas play. I was chosen by our teacher Mrs. Foster to be the only Santa’s reindeer because there weren’t enough kids to play all the parts. My mom made me a pair of antlers that I wore on top of my head made out of wire coat hangers covered with brown felt. When the record player played “Up On The Rooftop Click Click Click” that was my cue to come out pulling Santa’s sleigh. When I did some guy in the audience yelled “I don’t remember a moose in this story.” That made me kind of sad but mom told me that a moose was a majestic animal and could probably win in a fight with a reindeer. I guess I didn’t look too much like a reindeer at that but it was hot in there.
The ending to this is one of the cleverest I've seen in stand-up comedy. He maintains the persona so well, Stewart Lee levels of commitment to a bit. But then for the final minute, cracks appear in the mask just long enough to see an actor desperately trying to maintain composure, all to the sound of audience hysteria and looped farting. It's a work of art.
I feel bad in a way that I'm only just discovering you a few weeks ago (from a 2 year old Townsends clip) .. but I guess it's better late than never because I've had the luxury to binge a ton of your work .. and it's been really truly joyful Joe. Thank you so much for the positivity! ☮
I’m from northern Minnesota originally, and it’s uncanny how many people Joe reminds me of. I mean that in a good way, but it’s almost disorientating. Great stuff 👍
Joe, the only man who holds a candle to your gentle voice is Tom Bodet saying, “We’ll leave the light on for ya”. You’re as lovely as a comedian, public speaker, human being can be. Thank you for talking with us. Yesterday was challenging for me, and included hours of new phone connection frustrations finally resolved by two smart and very nice AT&T human beings sitting with me. It felt good, after dropping my phone in a creek, losing all it held, including phone numbers and photos if friends in France and Montana. Then I heard an old friend and neighbor died in New York last week, along with many others. Then i found out a beautiful family in Russia who adopted a circus cheetah, and tended her with great love fir 3 1/2 months, lost her to metastacized cancer. All i could do was to go to mcdonalds and get two double cheeseburgers, sit in the parking lot and let it all just be. The taste and smell and paper wrapper reminds me of being a small hungry child in the mid-1960’s, on a dark, rainy evening, pulling up to the Eat ‘n Park with the huge, neon-outlined Big Boy, and being handed a warm, fragrant cheeseburger, along with three siblings. Pickles were passed from those who didn’t like them to those who did. Some always fell, and were smashed into the carpet by small feet in keds sneakers. My mouth still waters when i recall one of the few feelings of comfort and reassurance i ever had while growing up, fleeting, but it has stayed with me all these years, and probably will all my life. Little things can mean a lot. Unfortunately, when i feel especially vulnerable, a healthy version of this burger does not reach and reassure that child feeling of needing to receive what somehow makes a difference. I bless you, sir, for not getting too far away frim how living beings actually experience and feel. You are good for us. Please see the TH-cam channel I Am Puma.
