    • Split Enz - History Ne...
"History Never Repeats" was a single written by Neil Finn and recorded by Split Enz. It was released in March 1981 as the second single from their sixth studio album, Waiata. The song remains one of their most popular. The video was the 12th to be played by MTV upon its launch in 1981. It peaked at #4 in Australia, #5 in New Zealand, #33 on the US Mainstream Rock chart and #63 in the UK.

It's worth keeping in mind this song predates All of the 80's music... yep. this is why Split Enz, crowded house, neil finn are legends...
    Lyrics
    History never repeats
I tell myself before I go to sleep
Don't say the words you might regret
I lost before, you know I can't forget
There was a girl I used to know
She dealt my love a savage blow
I was so young, too blind to see
    But anyway that's history
    I say history never repeats
I tell myself before I go to sleep
Don't say the words you might regret
I lost before, you know I can't forget
You say I always play the fool
I can't go on if that's the rule
    Better to jump than hesitate
    I need a change and I can't wait
    History never repeats
I tell myself before I go to sleep
And there's a light shining in the dark
Leading me on towards a change of heart, ah
    History never repeats
    History never repeats
Deep in the night it's all so clear
I lie awake with great ideas
    Lurking about in no-man's land
I think at last I understand
    History never repeats
I tell myself before I go to sleep
And there's a light shining in the dark
Leading me on towards a change of heart, ah
    Never repeats
    Never repeats
    Never repeats
    Hey hey
    Hey
    Never repeats

Their songwriting skills are second to none. Absolute mastery of melody, time and arrangement. Puts most bands on this planet to shame

Tim Finn is the lead singer, but younger brother Neil Finn joined the band and did some lead vocals (such as in this one, and that's Tim as the mime on the TV). Neil went on to form Crowded House, and now he's joined Fleetwood Mac.

yeah Tim got a little jealous of Neil in the end, hence them splitting, but they still get together and have released some weird, yet cool stuff together, I bought the cd called Finn in late 90s when they put it out, definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but in a similar vein as early split enz uniqueness

Saw these guys at Sydney town Hall when they were new on the Australian scene . They brought the house down . They were constantly swapping instruments in the middle of songs without missing a beat . Very talented and immensely entertaining .

You guys are so likeable! Split Enz just had great songs - a lot of times you can hear that "Maori strum" rhythm which made them sound a little different.

It’s so heartwarming to watch you both experience for the first time the music I was born and raised on! I am beginning to realise how much other people have missed out by not having Kiwi and Aussie music as part of the soundtrack of their lives.

Noel Crombie was the nutter behind the crazy clothes and videos. In the early days he just walked on stage during a show and started playing the spoons and just ended up staying. He is the tall guy in the videos who just seems to be hanging about.

The singer on the TV screen is Neil Finn's big brother Tim, who founded Split Enz and eventually hired his kid brother into the band. It was teenaged Neil who wrote the band's first hit, "I Got You", and eventually founded Crowded House. They wrote a couple of albums as The Finn Brothers, and Tim briefly joined C.H. for one album and part of its tour.

I like a good steak cooked in butter. If someday you have no butter, or if the doc says cut the fats. Put a spoonful of water in your frypan and put in the steak, cook and the fat in the steak starts melting as the water evaporates. You wll finish cooking it in it's own juices. Please try the flavour before you add anything. This is called "dry pan steak." I think the flavour is amazing, even if the outside stays grey, and never browns. Have you tried mainating your meat, as long as the mix has nothing that burns easily, like honey, you can barbeque the steaks. I love mushrooms in butter too, so I cook them first, take them out and add my steak to the pan. Makes the steak yummy. I'll have to try your butter, lemon and salt one, though i've had to avoid onions for 30 years, to not get weekly migraines. Thanks for the hint.
