    I appreciate this explanation and implementation of the array. It helps in the understanding of this design. I am not a fan of large speakers. I haven’t heard these and as there isn’t a dealer anywhere near enough to me and my lack of funds for them, I would likely get frustrated and I don’t need that. I’m sure they make their owners happy and that is what really matters. I like learning about new tech in speaker design. Good video! Possibly a review of the improved dispersion models in the future Sean, hmmm? For the sake of the big speaker lovers it would be welcome!

    Hey Eric , informative . I am in Panama , have been a stereo head/audiophile for around 40yrs , wanted a set of lores as the design concept of all your gear fascinates me . With shipping/duty ect beyond my price point . I brought in the components in the lores , perhaps the bass drivers are specialized for the lores but I brought in what I can see , guessed the crossover and built the cabs as close as I could given the data available . The short of it is these sound fantastic , yours are surely better but these sound very good driven with a late 70s luxman ss or a nelson pass higher powered piece . These sing with low or high power . I have a very expensive and highly acclaimed set of monitors to compare to and your concept shines next to them. Love the direction you have taken with your speakers , frankly at your price point its a better idea to just buy them but that is hindsight. Hope to demo some of the higher end speakers in your lineup with my next US visit . Great work sir. thanks ..

    Hi Eric. Let me start by saying I'm so thrilled that you've started this channel. Efforts like yours here and that of Paul McGowan over at PS Audio really deserve recognition from audiophiles around the world. If I could offer you a little feedback, it would to address in general, layman's terms how you go about broadening and narrowing the "beam," what angle you've broadened your speakers out to be now, and why you chose the angles you did when you made your choice. I've subscribed. Thanks again.

    • @StewartMarkley
      @StewartMarkley 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am replying to you mostly because of your screen name Last of the Boomers, which to me implies either that you were born in 1964 or you were on a Boomer submarine like I was. I was an the Alexander Hamilton SSBN617 from 1972-1976. Just wondering how you chose your screen name.
      About your question which wasn't answered, I think the steering or widening of the array is done by manipulating the phase of the outside ring drivers with respect to the middle tweeter driver, but the crossover is proprietary so Eric probably isn't going to explain that here. However it is undoubtedly revealed in his patent.

    Really excited about these videos. Seeing Eric next to the speakers like the lore, the DI, and the new Moab, is helpful in getting a sense of scale of these speakers. Maybe some time he could do a walk by on various models discussing strengths and why you would prefer certain models moving "up" in the food chain. I've always thought the great varieties of models is both a strength and weakness of the company. As a consumer, It's hard to decide which one as many models are clustered closely in price. For myself for instance; do I pick the highly regarded monitors and match them up with a couple cinema woofers for a $5,000 dollar outlay? Or would I be better served with the all in one Moab that covers the frequency range and doubles down on the tweeter array. But neither combo gives me the harmonic overtone design that the DI's, Ufbehrt, encore, and electron have. Is that an engineering aspect I'd miss by choosing any other combination? Thanks again for videos Eric. I hope they catch fire soon. Been following you awhile. Ps thanks for finally tweaking your website. It wasn't the most intuitive for awhile . Not perfect yet, but much better. Kindest regards, Gary

    Hey there, Eric. Love the vids so far. It’s very interesting to hear how you actually design Tekton speakers. Are the bullet points you follow pretty much the same as what John Atkinson looks for when testing a speaker?
    I’d love to see how you designed the Pendragons, which I’ve been the proud owner of for about the past 4-5 months or so, and I love them. When you put your ears up to each speaker, they’re certainly not doing what you’d expect.

    Eric, thanks for making this video. This driver array *looks* unusual, and now you have explained how it functions, and why it works the way it does. What is the nominal crossover point on this version of the Double Impact? What is the approximate dispersion angle on this version?
    Also, did you tune this speaker to be as "flat" as possible, or did you go for a Harman curve?

  • @mjjjjjjm
    @mjjjjjjm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Eric I'm looking for speakers with a wide dispersion but under 2k , are pendragon or enzo xl good for that

  • @johnsoma6485
    @johnsoma6485 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is interesting is that the impacts must be operating the tweeters below resonance. So the drivers have to play through the resonance frequency in their current operating range. Also power handling will drop with frequency, offset by spreading the load to additional drivers as the signal goes to lower frequency (speculation only).

    • @TektonDesign
      @TektonDesign  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Woofers play through their resonances every day all the time, so there's no reason it can't be done successfully with a tweeter - we do this. Furthermore, with the tweeters being the most linear device to pull from and the lowest in distortion it makes sense to do what we're doing.

    • @johnsoma6485
      @johnsoma6485 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TektonDesign Hi! I was not casting aspersions; the resonance point is just something you probably had to deal with in the design phase. Lots of flat panel drivers also operate below the panel resonance. It was just an interesting design factor that people were missing in the driver array polar response boogums. Cheers!

    Very interested in getting a pair of your full range speakers for my dedicated mastering room. Do you think this is an application the Double Impacts would be suited and/or do you have another other suggestions, e.g. Enzo XL, Electron, OB Sigma? Also what sort of amp would you recommend (under $500-600 if possible)? My current monitors (Dynaudio and Sonodyne) are both active, so I would need to get an amp if I go this route. Thanks much.

I am currently looking into that based on the wonderful reviews the double impact has and due to my room size but would really like to know how different is it from it's floorstanding brethren. Was the wider dispersion changed on it as well. What about components? You mentioned it had different components. Are the components similar to the double impact SE in terms of performance (whatever that may be)?

Double Impact speakers alone, or Impact Monitors, plus dual Tekton 2-10 or 4-10 (or other) subs? Perhaps I should be looking at the Moab? What I have found is owners of expensive speakers are usual the most critical of Eric's work mainly because they realized they could of got similar performance for a lot less money. They realize they got screwed. Look I can talk cool too. If a $3,500 speaker outperforms a $40,000 speaker in any area to me the $40,000 speaker is a failure. Many products start out one way and then change for other reasons. SO WHAT. If you desire more razor sharp Imaging get yourself pair of electrostatic speakers. Obviously the Imaging couldn't have suffered too much witb the polar response these speakers measured.

    I’m not an audiophile nor do I have any aspirations to be
    but I am a musician for almost fifty years and made high-end saxophone
    mouthpieces for almost forty years for many famous players so I’m pretty sure my
    ears are good. I recently received my
    Double Impacts and set them up yesterday and I’m really disappointed. I’m using a PrimaLuna EVO 300 integrated amp
    which was four-thousand dollars so I’m pretty certain that it’s the
    speakers. I really expected there to be
    more umph, more highs and more lows given the size, weight and tweeter array
    but no, the sound is not complex and doesn’t excite me. The placement may not
    be perfect since there’s a shelf behind one of the speakers but otherwise placement
    is good. I understand that there’s a
    break in period but these speakers have a very long way to go before I’d find
    them satisfactory. Now they were only
    $3,150 but reviewers compared them to
    speakers costing over ten thousand dollars but
    I just don’t see it. Could this be me?

      I would have to respectfully disagree, Phillip. I believe Eric to be one of the greats of speaker design, and it seems clear to me that it isn’t just that one review, but the opinions of many. That tells me that Eric listens to his present and future customers while maintaining a true passion for what he does. What more can you ask from a designer/engineer/ and owner of a great and honest HiFi company? Tekton speakers receive rave reviews the absolute vast majority of the time, and people seem to trade in their much more costly speakers for the Tekton line. To me that says a lot about how good they truly are. I listened to and auditioned many speakers before purchasing my Pendragons, and I’m very thankful I did. I feel I made the correct choice, and I’m sure that I am not alone.

      I consider my ears pretty well trained but also am aware of the concept direction at least in the case of the lores . Using an actual (high quality) musical instrument driver to cover so much of the range brings the sound delivered a step closer to what a live performance would sound like which is the goal is it not ? I find this concept does things better than my very highly acclaimed monitors , not all but some things better .Not as refined but certainly more live like in a good way . When using the word live like , it's comparing to shows at 300 seat venues with the best of the best sound systems. Dynamics without listener fatigue that many dynamic high efficiency speakers create . Listening to critics is a sign of a designer who wants to know what the customer base says , not weakness. If I do something well but you do it better I'm a fool if I don't consider your method.

      Very well said.
      I find your comment to be very truthful and insightful.

      Thanks very much! I find that comment to be utterly ridiculous, and I also highly doubt he has really heard a pair of Tektons. Otherwise, I think he would’ve mentioned the model.

    Let me get this straight someone critiqued your design and you change it,you loose all respect from me,you seem to design your products on reviews and not your no how 👎🏼I’ll give you a call and tell you what to do with your next design (ok)🥴

      Hi Phillip, In other words... you believe I don't reserve the right to improve, change, or update my designs?
