I have a friend who works for bloo and he told me this fun fact:
The director never told the corp members nor the techs about the keytar, they just showed up with it one day and it was a huge surprise to everybody
Last week the percussion director for our high school band went up to the main director and said that one of their bluecoats buddies had told them to ask around to see if anyone had a Roland brand keytar. Our director was like, "What, did theirs break or do they need a second one?'
YEPP!! it came out of nowhere 💀
Lol the best part of their show was "a surprise"
Can confirm
Did Ryan know it about it or did they just tell him to play it
Title Correction: This Entire Show is an Acid Trip
I literally just commented the same thing 😂
No title correction fear and loathing in Las Vegas the marching band show
AND I LOVE IT!!!
Had a trippy dream once
@@donladle6748 so I had this goofy ahh dream
This is unique. I'm a boomer who marched in the early 80's but I must say this appeals
to me. The interplay between percussion and keytar is cool. Thanks for keeping some
of the old and adding the new. 😃
Oh my goodness you have no idea how much I appreciate seeing an older person compliment modern drum corps. I marched Louisiana stars this past season. And some older people HATED our show because it was “too cinematic”
@@baleohhay7983 y’all have a great visual team some of them taught me!!👀👀🤝🏻🤝🏻
@@amichaelnorden9835 oh my gosh I loved all the vis staff this year
you are everywhere oh my god lmaosoaosis
agreed.
Saw this show when they performed at NIU. Makes me want to go back to marching again. I loved this show
You I was there to
I saw this exact show live! I was performing for RHR earlier in the day. Was such an amazing show. 0:24 was my absolute favorite part
@Ryan Reffert 🤔🤔🤔 man you seem familiar
Who’s RHR?
@@baleohhay7983 right here right now????
YES THATS MY FAVOIRYE PART I LOVE IT SO MUCH!! i tried learning it and i have the notes down but for some reason the last 2 chords(?) don’t sound right to me ):
Not bad, When I think of the Keytar, I think of those great R&B bands of the 80's like The GAP Band, Cameo, The System and, even Earth Wind and Fire. Even Punk/Nuwave band Devo. They all used it and it added a little something to their songs. Cool 👍
i saw them live 2 days ago, they were amazing. highly underrated drum corps for sure
I wouldn’t say they’re underrated they’ve been too 6 for a while now
@@parkermorriss8404 everyone in the stadium I was at was booing at them lol
@@brennengrimes theory are the bluecoats so we all yell bluuuuuuue to cheer for them
They aren't yelling "boo", they are yelling "blue" 😂
@@brennengrimes you're kidding with the "booing at them" LOL. right?
Love seeing the Keytar solos in DCI!!
oh my God, watched so many dci shows yesterday and this solo was definitely a standout.
cutting edge to use electronics, but I could easily see this as a trumpet/soprano feature.
I think it would have been cool to have a duet or trio with Tpt or soprano, because I really like the effect it has. Plus it would give them one more card to play if the keyboard shits the bed
true, but then again how many electronics features are there out there compared with soprano features? I love this choice personally. Adds so much flavor to an otherwise predictable soundscape
@@mattdeveer3102 it gives the show spice
@@shaunbeakley348 A small ensemble would work.
yes it can be played on the trumpet but the effect would not be there. this is a show about a dream. a trumpet isnt trippy enough
As a keytar player and my brother being in marching band I and gonna learn this right now
modern music should always be trying to invent new sounds and feelings, i love!
0:36 till the end of that first bit is the best part.
Currently learning this solo and getting a keytar for the bit
So glad I got to see this in person
omg i was able to see this in person and IT WAS SO GOOD
That was brilliant!!!
Can you transcribe the earlier version? I personally like the version from June 28th..
Yeah that first version definitely sounded better, it just seemed like it flowed better
I’m an 80s dinosaur horn player and also a piano and synth player. This guy plays very well. But the integration of electronics into drum corps still feels experimental, all these years later. It comes down to the mix. The majority of the ensemble has never needed amplification. But an electronic instrument has to have it by definition. So getting the mix right so the music sounds good (and not distracted by the mix) from most audience locations) is practically impossible.
I’m also a trombonist, and I feel similarly about trombones in drum corps. I’m sick of the lack of commitment to them as a field instrument, so they end up seeming like a gimmick. I’m also a singer and amplified singing in drum corps nearly always sounds like an afterthought.
Based
As a trombonist I couldn’t agree more. Trombone in DCI in most cases ends up being written as glissando machine since euphonium players don’t have as much technical skill on trombone. I wish it was used to change the color of a brass section rather than a 16 measure gliss party.
@@ianellis9349 well in fairness, I know when I marched, a fair number of baritone/euphonium players were actually trombonists in band. So I assume a fair number of the featured trombonists are actual trombonists, being subjected to the DCI trombone freak show.
Idk man sounded great to me 😂
“Hernandez Encore” 😯 😉
Great video!! Something very unheard of in DCI, for sure :)
I went to the show in Ohio recently, and good god it was so excellent. The song had a narrator over it describing a dream he had, and it was so cool to listen to him while having the music bring his descriptions to life.
Saw them last night at NightBEAT, this is a show that gets better every time I see it
I was very shocked when I saw this tbh
god this sounds so good
Life was good when I saw this for the first time.
1:07 WOOOO
OH MAN!!!!
That got me!
Wooowwwww
I love Keytars SO much
I was here. Amazing experience
This solo has come a long way
This is my favorite Risk of Rain 2 song
Trust me it’s even better in person
It really sounds like a Mario Kart 8 Track Soundtrack. It sounds great
At 0:37 He's quoting a bit of Torq's Lymaks
They use their song Tazio as the opener.
This reminds me of mega man
True, especially the part when he saves Roxanne from Titan
I gotta start doing this
Doing what?
The whole show is an acid trip
righteous 🤟🤙
I'm so confused but it is amazing
Jimmy Hendrix vibes. Love it.
Whenever I watch one of these DCI videos it just seems like everyone is on a combination of aderall and crack.
now that is how lectric stuff should be used
00:23 is my fav part
Fucking rules. The future is now. Keytars are here to stay.
Snarky Puppy?
What about em?
@@RishiJalukar gives that vibe with the synthy sound
Definitely SP vibes.
More Lakeside Fantastic Voyage.
sounds nothing like em lol besides the instrument itself
Have you more transcriptions about famous keytar’s solo? Thanks
Those chords at 0:27 😩😩
"We don't talk about this part" LMAO
Comparing my score to others, it's not as accurate as theirs but I'm trying lol
This show was definitely designed by guys on a crap ton of drugs. That being said, it was designed by a bunch of geniuses on drugs.
do you transpose these yourself?
Yes most of these ony channel are my own, and if I ever use anything I credit in the description!
Is that an encore run or a practice
Imagine if this solo was transposed into a lead trumpet solo how insane would that be I wonder…..?
Crazy multiphonics I assume
This shit sound like a Mario kart map theme and it’s third lap
this could be a level of sonic or megaman
1:04 heavily influenced by FF7 Bombing Mission song
Kent State? DID I MISS IT?
Risk of rain vibes
What’s the name of the sonh
sexy.
Risk of rain 2 ah beat
Anyone know the model keytar he’s got?
Roland AX Edge
Written or improvised?
It seems since he changes it several times a season I am starting to think he just improvizes on a written solo
Most likely both. There seems to be a structure to it, and certain notes that need to line up specificlaly. But for the faster "keytar go brrr" parts, it could easily be improve sections, and most likely is
Blooooooo
This would have sounded much better as a wailing Trumpet Duet.
But It fits the vibe the show is going for and stands out compared to others shows last year. When we look back 10 years from now we’re gonna think about bloo 22 as the keytar show.
L crowd
Bluecoats would’ve won if the Keytar solo was a trumpet solo
The original solo was better
He changed it 4+ times over the season (on recording at least)
I still dislike the show, but the solo was sick, nonetheless.
They just aren’t as loud or playing as hard of music as Blue Devils or phantom
@@cole_bh0373 Yea and personally it felt as if it was more centered around the props and sample sound than the music and skill of the performers. Don't get me wrong i like props, but it was too much and didn't add much in terms of the "story".
I didn't like it
It became dense and annoying after 10 seconds
pretty awesome.
feels like megaman, somehow
the minecraft outro really did it for me
