First Resin Tree Table - Plywood Carving

  • The top is made from 2" thick solid sapele and the tree branches and leaves are underlit with l.e.d. lighting. The base was modeled after a cypress tree, but I chose to re-create the tree base using birch ply. Combined the top and base weigh roughly 650 pounds. Thanks for watching!!! and if you have any questions,,, just ask!

    Resin may be popular now but I believe the craze will go over. The very high gloss on wood does not complement the true colour of wood.

    Hello first i am a noob but making a arcade couch table!
    and light on a table like this is amazing!
    first question wahts the material did you use for the flower?
    and thid you use leds and how did the color changing?

    • @Truewoods
      @Truewoods  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The inlay is epoxy mixed with dye and metallic flake, the led lighting comes with a remote control that has different settings and colors.

    Just one question, was that a clear coat you applied before covering it with the epoxy resin? And why?

    • @Truewoods
      @Truewoods  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I sprayed the table with conversion varnish to help seal the wood. Then a scratch coat of epoxy. Then a full pour. If the wood isn't completely sealed, the wood will continue to release air bubbles as the pour coat is curing. It's really frustrating, don't want to go through that again!

  • @ballzack57
    @ballzack57 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Beautiful! But can you tell me how the leg went from high gloss to matte and back to gloss again? Were you sanding between coats of epoxy? Also, how did the top go from dark edges to dark all over? Did you abandon the dark edge and spray the whole surface?

    I think the idea for making the trunk was very good. Have to ask how you managed wood movement for the table top. Meaning did any of those inlays crack from wood movement or is the top so coated with epoxy that wood movement is a non issue? Very creative and keep making stuff.
