    I live just down the road from TAP GBC. I need to commend you on all the wonderful furniture in the "bar". Anyone that needs to wait for a movie over at Frank Theaters this is the perfect place. The furniture is super cool.

    Dude I'm so envious of some of the wood you have to work with, beautiful stuff. I have had your videos playing the last couple days while working in the shop you are definitely an artist very inspiring.

    That's some beautiful wood, but I get some unpleasant goosebumps when I look at it. Great project altogether.

    Very cool tables, and after a google search to see why they have that pitted apperance, I would love to get a slab and fill the voids with some resin and make a really kool table. The glass tops will be cool as long as its thick enough.

    Hey! This is amazing work! Much respect, I was wondering what finish you used on these as I love the look and I am currently working on a pecky cypress coffee table myself.

    I love it man, stuff happen in that shop! Great end result, I read many craftsman will fill the voids with epoxy and we know Cypress will just suck the epoxy like sponge, what is the process and products that you will use to seal the wood that will also provide a good bond with the epoxy.

    Would this pre-cat laquer stand up in the outdoors without yellowing? I am thinking of using pecky cypress in the bed of my 1959 GMC truck, but I need it to hold up to the weather and the sunlight.
    Would you recommend this or something else?

  • @Truewoods
    @Truewoods  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    These tables are just sprayed with pre-cat lacquer. They are having 1/2" thick glass cut to go on the top. You could pour epoxy,,, but the epoxy I use for top coats can only go on 1/4" at a time. If you go any thicker it will build up too much heat and bubble,,,, so it would take a lot of pours to get it filled. Good luck.

    Awesome Work. What are the steps you take to stain and seal dried, natural wood like that? Do you stain and then pour resin? Im trying to make some custom wall pieces and i want them to look like yours. Thanks in advance for any help. Landon

    Have you considered a think layer of epoxi in one of these tables, filling all the holes but still allowing them to see through?

    • @Makemeadeveryday
      @Makemeadeveryday 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Entropy wins time= money
      Epoxy with that many holes, sure! But it would cost a f of a lot not only in epoxy but end price

    I put a glass finish on my bar and have some sticky spots. I can only guess that I didn't mix the two ingredients well enough. What do you recommend I do? There are only a couple of small spots.

    • @Truewoods
      @Truewoods  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tabletop epoxy is usually a 1:1 mix and needs to be mixed extremely well. I usually mix for at least a couple minutes making sure to get the sides and bottom of the bucket. When I pour if there is still some in the bucket stuck to the sides I leave it because sometimes that last little bit isn't mixed enough. If there are sticky spots it means it wasn't mixed enough and will never dry! This happened to me the very first time I used epoxy. I tossed the countertop and started over. You can try and scrape away the sticky parts and the sand everything and do another pour. I feel for you!

    Southern Yellow Pine? where did you get those large pieces including the Cypress? And is that lacquer you sprayed on the top or something else? If so, what mixture do you use?

    • @Truewoods
      @Truewoods  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The yellow pine came from a sawmill in Georgia and the cypress came from a sawmill in central Florida. I sprayed Sherwin Williams pre-cat lacquer.

    • @EllisDesignandTradeCo
      @EllisDesignandTradeCo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh cool, I go to Sturgis Lumber from time to time over here in Vero Beach, FL. Where in central FLA did the Cypress come from? Are they priced well? I paid like 30+ for 2 pieces of Cypress that were 12inX8ftX1/4in to use for a light fixture. That clear coat looks good, what type of sprayer did you use with the pre-cat lacquer? I need to get a sprayer now!

    • @Truewoods
      @Truewoods  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Husky Wood Working I have an airless graco sprayer for big projects, but most of the time I just use a cheap cup gun.

    TRD, I have some questions. I would like to speak with you over the phone if possible. My wife and parents blessed me with a 5000 year old piece of cypress! No that's not a typo. 5000 years old according to the c.d. I would like talk finishes with you being as it looks like you know your work well. Thanks and GOD BLESS! Great looking tables btw!

    What causes the holes? Is it rot or insects? from when the tree was alive I mean?

      +Donchelios I read it's caused by a fungus that attacks the treasure while they're still alive.

    I understand that very few people these days have the patience to read, with youtube and all, but the brief description clearly states these tables have glass tops. Are people really that critical, or is it just stupidity. Glad I spend most of my time hiding in my woodshop, I'm far from a "people person"

      You are correct, no body reads now, anyway, very nice table, skilled worker to be honest, and a goddamn great visual effects,, I was thinking about an idea dunno if it works or not, what if instead of glass top, you used epoxy resin to fill the cracks and then add another layer of epoxy instead of glass top? Just an idea, not even sure it's doable, but all in all, that's a great table, great job. Greetings from Egypt :)

    • @Truewoods
      @Truewoods  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Hossam Hussien Thank you! Epoxy works great for this. It's a lot of work and you can't pour it too thick or it will build up too much heat and crack. But it can be done. I would only pour 1/4" at a time, so it would take a while

      jarred talbot I love it, "sorry" followed with a "but". It's ok, I have an ex-wife, I'm used to those types of contradictions. You're entitled to your opinions as I am mine, I just don't share mine so freely. It's great there are so many people in the world willing to share especially when I'm so stingy.
