The STRANGE PLANT everyone is eating in Ethiopia

  • After visiting the tribes of the Omo Valley in Ethiopia, we travel to Harar to try Khat.
    Khat is an addictive plant containing alkaloids which cause euphoria in the people who chew it. Much like Betel nut, it is a natural high and it is legal in Ethiopia.

      The real question is would you smoke some DMT with me in Oakland California where it's decriminalized because you know that would actually be safer than almost overdosing on nicotine in rural Africa far from a hospital? If you wanna go around the world trying drugs please do your research first and make sure you are doing them safely.

    • @adriennefloreen
      @adriennefloreen ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I was 16 I had to write a research paper on drugs for school and at that time the internet was a pretty new thing and somehow my research paper still included a story about getting sick from African chewing tobacco due to the nicotine content and even mentioned Khat. Do research and if you haven't the time to maybe ask me what I know about the next drug you try before you try it.

    I am an Ethiopian. I was a full-time software developer for the past 6-7 years. While programming, I want to stay awake and need a lot of focusing on the software development process. It helps a lot in a way you can't imagine. Even I can sit and start programming at 18:00 and stay awake until morning 06:00 without moving from my laptop. But after some time I started falling apart, I can't even sit and focus without chewing khat. Then I decided to stop chewing khat, and getting back to where you were was very hard. Anyways, now I am no longer a full-time programmer. I just develop some projects just for fun and also little income. I loved your video and you visited my country but I completely disagree with your suggestions to chew Khat. Cheers!

      He was talking about more of so in Wester countries because Weed and Alcohol are legal and Khat is nothing more than the two, it is a controlled substance. However, I understand what you mean. Just like a weed, you become dependent on it. How was the software field in Ethiopia, did you work for foreign companies, and is there an opportunity with high-income options?

      @@user-uf4lf2bp8tI blame TV shows and movies for that . They always show a bad representative of what different drugs do to you, pre legal high ban , synthetic stims in microdose per day complicated eliminating my chronic muscle and nerve pain and helping combat my chronic Fatigue. I actually had a life. But because people didn't have them responsible and started mixing different types of stims as well as binge drinking Ending up in hospital or dead. They banned the entire lot. Since then I've been on the max dose of opioid patches the past 7 years , my quality of life is not great. The patches keep me functioning at a bare minimum, and I really don't like them over the years I've had times where one has came off early before my refill and I go in to withdraw while waiting 72 hours for a refill it's hell , the task of just getting dressed let alone getting out of the house is like I've body builders holding my legs and arms , I had to stop work , stop Socialising. Dating is a no starter It's so shit . I only came across this video to see khat because it's a stim I was curious if the legality of it

      Copied for pubmed central webside:
      The plant comprises a large number of active substances, among which cathinone, cathine, and norephedrine are the main constituents, which can be included in the group of sympathomimetics of natural origin. In fact, these compounds are amphetamine analogues, and, as such, they have amphetamine-like nervous system stimulant effects. Chewing the leaves gives people a sensation of well-being and increases energy, alertness, and self-confidence. The chronic use of khat is, however, associated with severe cardiac, neurological, psychological, and gastrointestinal complications. The psychological dependence and withdrawal symptoms of khat are the reasons for its prolonged use.

I would love to host you at my shop where i sell it.. so that you can try it…while chewing it You can mix it with sweet chewing gum to help reduce the bitterness.. the reason we prefer using peanuts because they help in softening the mixture rather than using sweet bubblegums which has lots sugar,, “bad for the teeth”….much love for kenya🇰🇪

    It's such a different experience when watching fearless and far go to your home country. At first when i saw the video with the hadza tribe it didnt resonate with me because my people are from a different part of the country, but when you had "bercha" with the locals and made the "dua" with them it blew my mind. Thanks for highlighting the beauty in my culture and in a respectful way its much appreciated!!

    Eyyyy , I'm glad you experienced khat or Qat, I'm from Yemen and Khat is so legal here. I kinda agree with your local guider even though people from Ethiopia chew a little compared to Yemenis in which they buff their cheeks 😂. However, if Khat planting and growing is controlled, it won't affect the agricultural and he mentioned people sitting and doing nothing but that's not true a lot and I mean the majority of people work double the amount of work coz of Khat and the prof is when you sat with people in the market and that's not even a solid example when find out more about the tremendous effort made coz of Khat especially when it comes to construction workers.

    I really loved not only do they appreciate god giving gifts of mother nature but the spirituality they have. Allso the coffee sounds amazing 😍. I may need to go to Ethiopia one day. Think about how as an American with reasons I drink coffee endlessly I dip I smoke cigarettes. Only because it's recently legal have I started enjoying vaping and smoking hemp. I always find it amazing how things normalized in some places are crazy in another. Makes me think about how the kratom I legally am allowed to purchase and consume for health problems is illegal in the places it's native to. They allso chew the leaves of the kratom tree for similar effects to khat. Really enjoyed following you on this adventure.

    I am so glad you went for this experience and are sharing it here 🌿💚 Some of us are cultivating this plant in countries like the U.S.A., and very curious about the promise and potential of this plant, yet still unfamiliar with how to engage it or how much to chew, so this is a very special glimpse into how this plant is embraced and valued. Mostly there is just prohibitionist propaganda out there, so more living accounts like this are welcomed, thank you 💗 P.S. did you notice the astringency? not as intense as unripe Fuchiya Persimmons or anything like that, but they do sort of have a weird astringency. Also, it has this rubbery/tar flavor going on!

      For the cleanest experience, chew it with gum to keep it intact in your mouth. Sugarless gum if you're not up for the sugar. It helps to get rid of about half of it if it's filling up your mouth. Basically have some already going to add on to throughout the session. Don't let it fill up your mouth. Also, some fluids to clear up the throat. Gum works better as a base than peanuts, and you can enjoy your fluids such as juice, energy drink (for a real kick) and even water. With gum as a base, it's easier to hydrate without stopping the session, and your mouth and lips remain moist.

    Mike, you have had a little bit of the Harar chat delirium - the sort of euphoria and highness you feel when you had been intoxicated with cathinone after munching cartha edulis leaves for 24/7. I live in Harar and am chewing it as i write this. You know we call Harar, the cradle of love, not because chat is chewed everywhere. In that respect the Somalis and the Yemenis have a good appetite for the cathinone, yet they are entangled in fighting one another - at least in the sitting duel (FADHI-KUDIRIR). The euphoria of cathinone consumption in the cradle of love is special in the sense that it generates love to the extent of taming a Hyena. You have certainly witnessed Hyena feeding and may have done it. However, one thing i am sure of that you have not done, but ought to is PATTING, STROKING or FONDLING a Hyena when entering your home in the evening hours just as you may have stroked the forehead of your pet dog as it wriggles its tail to warmly welcome you home!!!! That is why Harar is the cradle of LOVE!!!
