My grandma used to chew on betel nuts and fresh tobacco leaves everyday. Lot of spitting, she finally stopped in 70s when she developed a cancer in lower right jaw. Doctors took most of her lower jaw and she lived 30 more years of her life. She died at the age of 94 natural death.

In our country and also in India, they have betel nuts in another way. They have them with a kind of leaf called Betel Leaves(Paan in our language). They use the Paan as a sort of base for the Betel Nuts. They also have them dried but you can have them fresh too. They chop them to tiny pieces so it's easier to chew. They put a smear of a paste called Chun which is made from Lime and Shell powder mixed with water. They put Tobacco and call them zarda. They roll them up together and chew on it. There are varieties of Paan. Sometimes they put spices. Sometimes they put sweet garnish and we call is sweet Paan. Sometimes they use different types of flavour and put a flammable edible gel and lit it on fire. They put the the lit Paan in mouth and we call it Fire Paan.

tobacco is optional. A lot of people do not eat tobacco, so instead they simply have the chuna with the supari and the paan or a sweet pan which has also gulcan and flavored supari. A lot of people also simply chew on betel nut pieces (no tobacco)

    • @shravanamuhuri9514
      @shravanamuhuri9514 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

The kattha or brown paste smeared on pan has alkaloids which are harmful for cheek walls...... Or else just a simple pan leaf with elaichi and gulkand is not harmful rather considered a digestive.... People in assam use fermented supari or tambul in paan to keep themselves warm in winter. A small chip of tambul is enough to keep you warm a bigger piece will make you sweat in winter, heart will pound, breath rate increases...

@@stripecatflippangitnamecha8721 Might be, I'm not an medicine expert. But betel nuts when fresh is more strong than dried ones. When I've used it, I consumed it with the Betel leaf, betel nut, edible tobacco, some sweet additives including sweetened fenugreek seeds and so on.
Adding a slight bit of limestone suspension(powder or powder mixed with a bit of water and made into a paste) activates the nut more. Since the limestone causes your mouth to be more sensitive in the blood vessels which makes the substances in the betel nut easier to be absorbed into your body.
Note, don't swallow to much, don't use an excessive amount of nuts cause these cause you to go on an overdose. Makes you high and a weird feeling. Too much edible tobacco will get you in a nicotine poisoning which is not fun.
WARNING ⚠️ DO NOT: use too much of the limestone. even the slightest excess use will take away the layers off of your mouth. Makes you unable to properly taste anything and burns like hell.

Not really. There is a reason people take these drugs despite the risks because they need the stimulant to work and go on with their life day to day without getting depressed, they take drugs that are relaxants that calm them, makes them feel numb to forget about their anxities and problems. They're not getting these from their normal life means they have to substitute it with drugs. Fixing inequality improves their living standards means they don't have to rely on these drugs.

But we actully grow very big ones. We chew it with mustard with icy is also called daka. And also with lime a white powder made from dry white corals. Here in NE India, we eat a lot but not with Mustard or Sea shell. We eat the mixture of Betel Nut along with Lime and Paan, which we called Betel leaves, leaf pluck from some specific kind of Vine plant. Some like to eat Dry nut while some like the green one, but the process or way of mixing and eating is same. But, dry nut is a bit hard to chew. Also, some of those people who chew the dry one use to add or mix Tobacco to have different Taste. And some other use to add or mix various kinds of sweetener and ingredients in it. The one mix with chewing Tobacco is called Zarda Paan while the one with sweetener is called Mitha or Meetha Paan. The Green Betel nut along with Betel Leaf mix with only Lime and no other ingredients is called Tamul. Here in Mizoram, NE India, the Green one, pack of 4 or 5 pieces i.e., one whole Green Betel nut is cut into severel pieces of same size, usually cut it into 4 pieces; and they pack it along with Betel Leaf and Lime and that price is ₹20. The Zarda Paan is between ₹25 and ₹50 per piece. And the Meetha Paan is starting from ₹10 to upto ₹1,500 per piece. Enough to chew by 1 person for only once costing ₹1,500 is very costly, it is a kind of luxury. The price are varied according to ingredients they mixed it with, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, ₹150 and so on, going up upto ₹1500, sometime upto ₹2,500 per piece. Here in some city like Mumbai and Nagpur etc, you can found a Paan which Cost ₹500, ₹2500, ₹5000, ₹6000, ₹15,000 and so on and upto Rupees One Lakh (₹1,00,000) per piece too, while you can also find it costing ₹25 or ₹30 only too. Also, if you want it, you can get Smoke Paan , a paan emitting smoke when you start chewing it and also Fire Paan, which they lit it with Fire before they put it inside your mouth, it means you have to chew it while it is still burning. The price are varied according to ingredients and sweetener they mix or add in it. Now a day, $1 is equal to around ₹85, so, if one Paan cost Rupees One Lakh, it is $1,250 in US Dollar, too costly for 1 piece of Paan. You can find it in TH-cam if you want to see it. Come and visit India and come on, chew our Paan, a useless, meaningless things which rob us and left us with no money daily, though it is very addictive it doesn't act as narcotic drugs or any drugs, never letting us drunk or let us behave as drunk. We just chew it and swallow it just like some kids eat their candy or chocolate, it is only a waste of money, it is just like we threw away our money in the drain. We know what bad effect it have on our health and our economy but we still cannot stop chewing it. Bad behaviour with meaningless addiction 😂 At least if it can act as some Drgus giving us some hallucinations or let us have drunken state of mind, it have to be better, but there is none. It is same as addiction of Smoking cigarettes. 😅 Chewing Paan causes many mouth and throat cancer here in Mizoram, NE India.

Best Food Ever.. in Vietnam, older women chew betel nut with lime paste and a leave called trầu (la trầu) and tobacco. The combination of trầu leave and lime paste and betel nut makes a red color then they get the tobacco to clean the teeth. After they chew for a few minutes, then they spit out a red spit. Gross and weird, but most senior citizen women do this and it becomes a custom. When I was younger I tried it, messed around with my grandma's kit. It made my head spinned, like drunk. I'm Bangladeshi and these things are extremely popular and an important part of our culture. it's called Paan and people are addicted to it like you can be addicted to cigarettes. Regular avid chewers don't use so much spices. It's plain betel leaf, betel nut, tobacco and lime stone paste. My mom has to have at least 6-7 does in a day otherwise she can't function. I chew them occasionally when I feel like it.

I lived in Taiwan for three years. The first time I tried betelnut I was with a group of foreigners who all spit it immediately which made me scared. So I put it in my mouth and also spit immediately.
The second time I tried betelnut was 2 years later. I was drinking with old men on the streets of taipei one time (street barbecue, late night, always attracts the most fun people) and they gave me one to try, but i was scared of my tooth color of all things because I already enjoy coffee and red wine and fear dentists. Its definitely the spit tobacco of SEA. I wouldn't call it a foreign chemical. It's natural...but cyanide is also natural.
It will give you a little burst of energy but it helps only if youre pulling a long night. If you're chewing it while you're okay, then it's probably not going to do much. But I did find it gave me a small second wind even if i didnt chew for long haha.

Tips for real betel nut chewing. Chew the nut with lime and musted and it will give you the color blood red and not orange, and the golden rule is not to spit it out. Don't forget to stay hydrated after chewing betel nut. Good luck 👍 🔥🇵🇬

In south eastern part of Asia they serve betelnut with the leaves, lime and tobacco on a tray during social gathering amongst the elders. I used to chew betelnut for fun when I was a kid but none of the rest because the stains in their mouths looked discusting and I don't want that in mine. Found out later in life that the whole thing can cause health issues so I just stayed away ever since. But I still chew the nuts from time to time.

I used betel quid to combat my smoking addiction and have used it as a replacement for nicotine which is good for my lungs.
The bad side is that, i can't live without chewing betel nut for every 5 minutes.
Another bad side is that i am experimenting on spices to add on my quid to find out the best flavor it can provide and here are some of my combinations.
    1. Betel nut ( matured betel nut which is brownish in color, typically bought in the Cordilleras).
    2. Betel leaf ( not the dark green ones but those yellow green or yellow ones called "Dulawen" but you can use "Hinga")
    3. Lime powder ( any types )
    4. Clove sticks ( add one after spitting the first juice of the three combinations )
    5. Cardamom
    6. Tobacco ( La reyna mascadas )
