Sensory Deprivation is terrifying. My dad worked at a research and test centre for ball bearings and they had a dead room and every year they had an "open door weekend" for the family to see what it was our parents were doing. They had a auditory dead room (turn off the lights and it's pitch dark too). And they held a match for whomever could stay in the longest (lights off as well). The winner would win a nice price. As a cocky 11 or 12 year old I was like: "how hard can it be?" So my dad warned me to not register for it because it was unsettling at the very least. But hey I am a tough 11/12 year old how hard can it be to stand in a room without sound and light. So my dad was like: "I've warned, let's sign you up then!" So my time slot came we go over and I would in and there's this weird mesh suspended floor and all these weird wedge shaped panels all around you and when you walk in and the door is still open but you turn the corner it's already unsettlingly quiet. But hey "I am a cool tough 11/12 year old." So I carry on. I was instructed to stand in the centre arms to my side at all times holding a little squeeze bulb that you would squeeze when you wanted out it would turn on the lights and open the doors. The guys go out the door closes and now all is quiet and you hear the blood in your ears and your heart beating then the lights went off... It was like a wave of panic coming over me. "But hey I am a cool 11/12 year old kid" so I keep saying to myself relax breathe, relax breathe, relax... and I start loosing my balance and on this weird mesh suspended floor it was hard to stand and I was afraid to trip I felt completely lost and disoriented. I squeeze the bulb the lights come on the door opens and I am out. My time wasn't even 30 seconds, something like 23 second or so... It felt like minutes!
Reminded of the story about people with visual dead zones where some mechanism in the eye fails, and those people report hallucinations in those zones. It was explained that there is both bottom up and top down processes, and without the images of the bottom up process telling the brain, "No, what you're guessing with the top down process isn't there" the brain puts in all sorts of things.
A few problems with this: 1.) you want a mask that can diffuse light but allow you to still open your eyes. 2.) you want a red light shining on your face to make it such that you can’t tell if you’re eyes are open or closed except for the physical sensation you feel 3.) you want pink noise, not white noise. It’s much more pleasant to hear. 4.) 20 minutes is cool, but dedicate at least 45 to an hour to it and with no distractions.
5:18 It is precisely at this moment that I realize what an amazing premise this seems to be, followed by the reality of trying to convey anything in a TH-cam video. This one, I think I’ll have to try myself. Thanks for letting us know, though, even through the futility of the idea of shooting 30 minutes of nothing.
@ Not wrong. The effects used were sick, and I’m excited to try this (once I calm down from the mild heart attack I had last night). Btw, I have a magic trick I’ve modified from the original that I can perform over the phone, or a discord call, or some other vocal communication. Imagine that, but it’s a card trick, with your deck, and your hands, and just my instructions. If you’re interested, let me know, I’ve gotten Brian’s shared voicemail more times than I cared to count, so I’ll give you guys my number to call me, get mystified, then get de-mystified ;)
Producer to crew: "I bet you $500 I can get the hosts to be still and quiet on set in total silence for 30 minutes." "Ain't no way... I'll take that action."
This video seems way too vague. I've tripped into so many weird places with chemical aids, but predominantly without chemical aids, I have real trouble with sleep. Several times a week, in the middle of the night I'm not sure if I'm asleep, seemingly awake in dreams but with no control for one way or the other. Feeling like I'm in a limbo state of conciousness, is this the Ganzfeld effect? In this vid I just see two guys put paper over their eyes for 20 mins and one was like 'whoah' and the other was like 'whoah' too. Feels a lot clickbait, and very little, what can we learn from this. Just my two cents.
They had a video on this years ago on their OG channel "Modern Rogue", I wanted to see if it worked, so I tried it and sure enough, it worked and I immediately started crying because I couldn't believe what I was seeing, I snapped out of it and couldn't replicate it again. Judging by their explanation and the tears in their eyes, I believe them. I've done psilocybin and it's totally different. Try it for yourself if you'd like and if you got the time. Also if you think THIS is clickbait, then I'm not sure you've actually seen clickbait.
I go through the same thing. It’s not like being half asleep, it’s like being awake while dreaming. I do find some sort of control, but it is more subtle. It’s like if something isn’t going my way in a dream, a random event will change it to be more in my favor. It is not restful sleep either, I’m tired most mornings. I agree with the other commenter, I think it is lucid dreaming, but I think it’s caused because my brain isn’t going through the full sleep cycle like it should.
This type of thing has been happening for a while just from catching the wrong angle of light. It's usually from the sun and I don't mean from staring at the sun but it's similar. But if too bright of a ray I guess hit my retina at the right angle for about a half hour to an hour I see a translucent hologram of shapes and colors. It's happened at night from a single light bulb or the TV again usually when I am not looking at it directly but looking at something else and the light rays hit wrong. It's trippy and makes me nervous like maybe I'm on the brink of a seizure idk.
Wish I could hallucinate. I've tried these methods as well as countless others, including drugs, and nothing has ever worked. Some have worked during the first attempt of a method. But just like the Placebo effect, they'd only work the first night and never again.😔
The medical application of shrooms use darkness and soft music. that apparently points the trip inwards and lets you play with your thoughts and memories. might be that "nothingness" will cause different funks.
Modern Rogue started on this channel, and now we've got 4K remasters with the ads removed. These are the definitive archival editions, so we're doing daily watch parties around noon central time. Come join us! -Brian
Yeah, gave me epilepsy, messed my short term memory up and im a bit dumber now but i watch things that are sitting stationery in my peripheral move into the spot they're in though they were already there, also saw 2 people and a shopping cart turn into a bush early one morning on the way to work. I constantly see "death" following me and sometimes even light following me. other stuff too but that's the most notable of it. @scamschool

That's awesome. I honestly had no idea how long we were doing that for... we forgot to agree on a time limit! Pinning this for visibility. -Brian

I would call those user friendly tweaks. Once you've done it a few times you can use anything remotely similar.

Yeah, it was a challenge, but Brandt really made it sing!

Sounds more like lucid dreaming to me what you're doing.

Reminds me of fire kasina... Maybe this is what light kasina is. Brandt sounds very practiced at it, is he an advanced meditator?

Probably not something you would want to try while under the effects of Pyscdilic Shrooms
I doubt it'd change much at all. If you're going to freak out, it's happening regardless.

i suggest using theta or gama pure tone binaural beats for noise.
Why is the modern rouge being uploaded to scam nation?

Where do you get those ironing board bedframes?
Ok I'm doing this on shrooms
I always hear music with the white noise from the fan.
Same! It’s really weird when you try to hear the specific melody
it's like lucid dreaming, without sleeping?
kinda. Except you're not controlling anything... just seeing stuff happen.
@@scamschool does it have any bad effects on the long run?
I’m tripping balls right now!
haha
This is my life all the time. Y’all don’t have the quiet monsters always?
I see and hear nothing.
Hallucinations without drugs? That's easy, just have an aneurysm. Trust me, i see stuff all the time that's not there
wild!

Scam Nation has evolved quiet a bit since my last look in.
Good stuff....
Awesome!! Good to see you back! -Brian
