  • In this video I show you how to replace ABS rings on an E90 BMW. Handy if you have the common ABS issues.

    I take comfort in the fact that no matter how different people across the world are, we all make the same noises when we are trying to undo a rusted on, tight AF, bastard of a bolt whilst lying on our backs, face/eyes covered in shit wishing we had never started the fking job in the first place.

    Good video. I'm going to have to do this on mine i think. It's got all sorts of driveability problems with traction control switched on.

    Fantastic video and really helped with planning it in my head, I have a e46 m3 and assume they aren’t too much different, I am doing this job tomorrow and I have the rear end ready to go.
    I was wondering prior to removing the bolts on the diff end, can I still chap the driveshaft out slightly to make sure it does start to move without causing any issues. Thanks.

      Ello mate, i got a e46 m3 too with same fault. How did you get on with removing the shafts? Heard horrid stories about them being stuck in the hub. 😊

    Doing both sides on my 2006 320d msport tomorrow.
    No lights on dash but no real boost until 2000 revs when it takes off like a rocket. Turning off traction etc made no difference. I'm also only getting 25-26 mpg which is shocking.

      How did i go mate? Mines currently in garage, was told by a bmw guy its just LHS thats the issue, so getting it done, was going to replace whooe driveshaft but ordered the ring and new sensor instead, im also getting around 150 miles off £50, burning a hole in my pocket

      The ring is quite easy to change.
      Its just getting the driveshaft off that is the job really !

    This did not work for my 2007 335i
    It doesn't use these metal rings
    But the process is nearly the same in terms of a cleaning being necessary

    My car has tha abs and 4x4 light I drove it for a few days and yesterday when I was driven back home from work the car start shaking like if a tire was lose or something do you think it’s tha right what is causing that

    • @Papa77sGarage
      @Papa77sGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you have warning lights present then there should be a fault code logged in that particular control unit. I would start with reading the fault codes and then go from there.

    Hey can this happen on the front too I have the same problem I know it’s the rings but when I scan it tells me it’s front left and right?

    • @Papa77sGarage
      @Papa77sGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's certainly possible but is less common. I think the front sensors take their signal from a magnetic ring on the wheel bearing. These can crack and/or corrode also.

    is it ok to cover the ring with paint?

    • @Papa77sGarage
      @Papa77sGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, paint won't affect the magnetic forces that are going on. I've painted several now and had no issues. This particular one was on my personal vehicle and there has been no ABS fault since re installing them.

      @@benassy69 They did and but it doesn't last long enough and as soon as it fails galvanic corrosion takes over as the rings are zinc coated, when the paint fails the zinc is eroded away quickly and then the steel starts rusting underneath and expands the rings.
