Had one of these recently and it was the cv joint corroded which pushed the abs ring out so they were contacting the sensor - changed the ring and it was job done - good that this one was just a sensor, easier fix and it didn’t snap on removal!
    Nice one 👍🏼

Now that’s a nightmare, but that’s a perfect example of why I checked the ring first.
Yes it was actually a pleasant surprise how easy it come out 😂

@@themobilemechanic1992 it’s what experience does for you - no doubt you have seen many 1 series with that problem. I don’t tend to see many of the same problems since going on my own. Working on a workshop you tend to see repeats of certain problems more as I’m sure you know

If there was the slightest marks on the old sensors face then the one days are numbered as that ring will be expanding due to the rust underneath it and the new sensor will technically be closer as you will have cleaned the rust of the mounting surface. Done loads of them.

perhaps the new sensor should of had a 1mm washer on to leave a bit of space (and therefore time before needing to replace ring/driveshaft )

No point putting new one on it will just wear away u need to change the ring

Is it easier to change the whole drive shaft and sensor than to change the ring and sensor?

It's not much work to get the old ring off just tap it off with hammer and big flatblade, clean up the drive shaft a bit with wire wheel or sandpaper and tap the new one in place. But yeah if you have a set of new shafts would be slightly less work

Hi ... i wonder if you can help ?????........(i,m a mechanic by trade but old with health issues)
    .
My BMW 1 .....2005..... series 1.6 petrol (only £800 trade)......... had a rusted brake servo and was replaced at the MOT garage who are really nice blokes 🙂
    .
It drove perfect and i drove it home like a little old lady 🙂
    .
The battery went weak and i jump started off the front terminals and drove it to charge it up
    .
I did a stupid thing by just letting my Fiat Punto "jump cable" to charge the battery in the boot (i know i,m not suppose to)
    .
The steering has gone MAD .... (lol)......... it's jumping to the right and misfiring BAD at 2000rpm ....(yeh the tacho jumps)
    .
As i pull left gently............ the "A" in the "@" sign lights up
    .
THEY ARE MAN AND MACHINE IN PERFECT HARMONY .......... lol
    .
(as we both hate each other) ......lol ................ Yeh after the oil change the timing chain went quiet and i drive it gently and keep it polished
    .
I tried the "lock-to-lock" when stationary ...... no joy
    ....
    THANKS FOR READING
