It's almost like the decoder rings you would mail order in the 50's and then you could decode the messages, once you learn a bit of patois it really just clicks if you speak any form of English. Even most of the metaphors and idioms if you think about them.
**It actually starts: "Jason Young, go to your bed! You, yes...I'm talking to you: go to your bed...you! Go to your...you, yes, go to your bed...and stop relaying messages. And Jason Young is a Jamaican athlete...but he wasn't at the Olympics.
(contd.) this: but you see Wallace Spearmon? He's my boy. Big him up too, because we know you had a rough season so big up yourself. You understand. It's the whole scheme, you see what I'm saying, big up everybody...even...no I can't call his name. Even that next guy...with that last name...big him up too because he had a rough season too, you understand. Big up St. Kitts too and the whole Caribbean. *someone else: What are you doing to my career? lol. *garbled. ...when I tell you these things
Jason Young...you...go to your bed (repeat) and stop relaying messages. What's wrong with you? Are you an errand boy {aka messenger}? But listen to me: big up to all of Jamaica, Bahamas...you're representing the whole Caribbean tonight. Chris Brown, not the singer, the runner...he represented so big up yourself. {this is a Jamaican greeting} Big up Trinidad too, because they brought it home. Sorry that Jamaica wasn't in there, but big up yourselves. Listen to me: I represent Jamaica, understand
(contd.) you say no Jason, no, you understand? Pure badness behind that, you understand? I tried...a lot of it is Jamaican slang so the translation is not exact. But basically he was telling some Jason Young to leave him alone...and sending shout-outs to the Caribbean and two American athletes. :) UB to di worl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's about fluidity of listening and speaking if you know English. Wah gwan bredran = "What's going on brethren" It takes some getting used to but you can get most of it. If you've ever heard a really drunk dude speak English you know how to listen. Listen to is as a rhythm almost and don't try to get word for word. At the end of a sentence it all makes sense. THat's an easy start. Then you just earn the idioms and metaphors, which make absolute (and hilarious) sense and then learn the bits and pieces they came up with on their own with no outside influence, like pickney for "child" and the like. Even if you never deal with Jamaicans patois is an easy way to dip your toe into learning another language and fun as shit to speak. Batti boi

Because it's actually a different language! Jamaican Patois has it's own grammar that doesn't always correspond with English.
