The brass figure you thought was a character from Narnia is the Lincoln Imp, an emblem for Lincoln. (20 miles from me). There are stone ones dotted about inside Lincoln Cathedral, Lincolnshire. This is somewhere you should visit. There are a lot of antique/vintage shops, charity shops, sometimes antique markets, and just up the road is Hemswell which is the biggest antiques complex in Europe (so they say) and there is also a big car boot sale at Hemswell on Sundays. Love your vids :-) xx
I went to Portobello Road market many years ago. I loved it. The car boot sales in the UK are so much fun to treasure hunt for bargains. Loiking forward to that and actually seeing your jewellery haul, and all of the items.
The sterling silver at the beginning of this video that you picked up for 55 pounds looked stunning.
The beautiful coloured stones, tea drop shapped earings you bought in this video are a one of a kind. They are gorgeous. 😍

I’ve been to the Portobello Market! My one time in Europe (so far) and we stayed in an AirBNB in Nob Hill, which is right next to the Market! I actually had no idea, so imagine my surprise when Saturday rolled around. That market is HUGE! It goes on and on and can be rather overwhelming. But I found some very fun items which I still enjoy 6 yrs later.
Really enjoyed this video Laura. A few hints for the flea market I told you about in Tokyo. It's advertised to start at 9am but most vendors are set up selling by 8 which is when you get the best bargains. Start in the open on the left hand side as these vendors often pack up and leave early. If you ask a question about the age or authenticity of an item you will be told the truth ie. you don't have to worry about being ripped off. There are not many places to buy food but if he is still there the man selling barbeque chickens has great food and he speaks several languages - Arabic, Italian, English and Japanese.

The Brass little fella with the crossed legs is The Lincoln Imp. He is in the Lincoln Cathedral in Lincolnshire carved into the arches . There is a cute little story about him.
I used to go there every Saturday. It was BRILLIANT!
I found so many things that reminded me of things that my Family had, that I though I never could find.
The people are very friendly, and help make it a great memory!❤❤
I think that I would have widened the range of things that I looked at, but then, that's just me.

The critter at 7.25 is the Lincoln imp, it’s a copy of a statue in Lincoln cathedral - there’s a story about it as it’s hiding up in the rafters. It’s easy to recognise as it crosses its leg

The last time I went to Germany I put a small suitcase in a larger suitcase so I didnt have any luggage going over but was full coming back. I had both filled to the brim coming back.
She always bring 2 suitcases and lots of bubblewrap.

Been there. Bought photography prints and two oil paintings. Loved the 1970s feel of it when we were there.
The mythical little man door knocker is a lincoln city cathedral imp. Hes carved into the stonework and you have to try and find him. Its a beautiful cathedral and lincolnshire has an abundance of antique centres and history (and cheaper than london) if you ever make your way back to the uk.
We visited prinknash abby on two occasions. It's in the cotswolds. Very beautiful, full of fallow deer and white peacocks. Such a beautiful setting for a monastery.

'Painted on porcelaine' reminded me of a find here in South Africa.... I was at a charity shop where I was going through the bin that people could just take whatever they wanted. I found 2 oval little frames with flowers painted on a yellowing surface. When I turned them around it said 'Handgemalt auf Elfenbein'.... being German I understood it and took them immmediatly. It meant 'handpainted on ivory' ! They are really worth something, but as I do like them, I won't sell them.... I love flower paintings and had our spare bedroom with a wall full of these painting in all sizes, before we moved.
Do you have any recommendations for antiques in Cape Town? I might be going there very soon ☺️
@@leftcoastrevivals There are a lot on Long Street in CT and Main Street in the Southern subburbs....Milnerton Market , but also all the charity shops. I have found incredible stuff there. I am a collector, bust actually should sell things soon LOL

Looks like so much fun to go there and shop through all the really fun old antiques. II agree with your husband deciding against the jacket for himself. One of you was going to be blamed for shrinking it in the wash if he's worn it. 😆
I don't know if you have done a video on how you manage to ship all that back without spending an arm and a leg to do so, but I'd love to see it. I would have likely passed on the lamp (and definitely the huge lamp shade!) even with it being undervalued because I would have figured that it would take most of the profit you might make just to ship it back home.
Knowing Laura's love for Bitossi, I get the feeling the lamp might've been a keeper ("forever piece") for her personal collection, which would mean she might've splurged on the shipping to get it home. Just a guess. It really WAS handsome.
@@susanalfieri4487 That would make sense. Otherwise, I don't think there would be much profit to be made. However, I could be wrong. Given this is a shopping trip, and she does seem to pick out pottery and paintings (all of which take up quite a bit of space - even small paintings), I am sure that she has some good ideas and tips on how to ship things back without breaking an arm and leg to pay the costs.
And we brought it as a carry on 🙌 Definitely a keeper!

I suspect that in order to bring all your treasures home without paying an arm and leg in shipping fees, you travel with a lot of hard-sided luggage, yet carry only one change of clothes, or clothes you don't mind leaving behind so you have space to ferry your treasures home. Well, if you weren't already doing that, you will now. 😆

Went to Portobello road market last summer with my daughters and it was packed mid afternoon 😅 After buying clothes at the undercover Ladbroke Grove end I found an antique uranium glass razor blade sharpener for £2 and about where you got the bargain Bitossi lamp ( 👏🏼👏🏼) i bought a green/custard vintage lozenge glass beaded necklace -£2 we walked all the way up to where venders were selling on the pavements ,in a cardboard box was a broken antique chandelier with cut crystal drops, the guy wouldn’t take my last £1 for them he chucked them into the rubbish bin truck instead! He must have been illegally pitching there, it was upsetting to see all the boxes being trashed! Had to have an Italian coffee & pastry to recover 😢 🙏🏼💖🌟🕊🇬🇧

I followed your advice and actually looked up the brand of a purse I found at Salvation Army to see if it was a good buy. And it was. I paid $5 for a La Regale purse that originally goes for $80-$100.

Prinknash is pronounced 'Prinnish', believe it or not. There is a distinctive, shiny look to the pottery, which is world famous. I have a coffee set that I bought when visiting the the abbey.

Laura- I recently found a Don Freedman tapestry hanging in my friends garage-he said it has been hanging there since 1999- I’ve moved it to my home- it’s very dry and sheds-what do you recommend to help with the shedding?

Hy Laura! I think you need to check Hungaryan Mohácsi fekete kerámia (Mohacsian black pottery). I think your Budapest finds are from there. Mohács is a small city near Danube, and ist famous from the Black pottery, the Busójárás ( thats a really old kind of folklor festival with carved mask monsters), andt he fish soup.
