Why would he want headphones ? He probably has a top quality sound system......Alpine and Nakamichi car stereo from the 1980's still destroy any digital systems and especially ear phones and ear buds.
Agreed. This album needs the right environment. Headphones hopefully cut down on distractions. To me, this album has to be listened to in its entirety because it is not intended to be a bunch of tracks. Otherwise, I agree with JaKar, there is something missing.
I’ve listened to this album, most Pink Floyd albums, hundreds of times over the last nearly 40 years, since I was 12 I think. And every single time, somehow I hear or focus on something different.
GUITARIST AND VOCALIST: David Gilmour BASSIST AND MAIN VOCALIST: Roger Waters DRUMMER: Nick Mason PIANIST AND MINOR VOCALIST: Richard Wright ALBUM BONUS PERFORMANCES FEMALE VOCALS: Clare Torry SAXAPHONE: Dick Parry There are also lots of vocal quotes from the people at the abbey road studios who were interviews by the band and asked questions such as "are you sacred of death" "whats your biggest fear" and more thought provoking things like that to the staff and people working in the studios those days including paul mccartney from the beatles. This album also spent 736 in a row from its release on the billboard top 200, and sense its release it has spent 988 weeks on billboard top 200 That is almost 20 years. This album is often referred to as the GREATESTS ALBUM OF ALL TIME.
I was 19 in 1973, graduated HS in '72. Listened to lots of music, went to community college and worked PT. It was a good time to be alive. The songs all flow together on this album. You should listen to it again with headphones.
In 1973 I was smoking weed and listening to this for the first time. I was 13 at the time. Best music ever recorded. Live at pulse was Best concert ever.
The album isn't really a play in the background kinda album. The sound fidelity is impeccable which allows it to be played very loud with out distortion, given that you have good enough equipment. In that way you can pick up the subtleties in the album, something The Floyd is known for. Thematically, the album is very tight and addresses issues that are very personal to the band but yet have a universal application to us all. Did you hear the heart beat inside the metronome at the beginning of "Time"? or Patricia Watts in "The Great Gig In The Sky". Did you notice the backing vocals in "Time" foreshadow Clare Torry's vocals in "Great Gig". The third verse of "Breathe" at the end of "Time". Did you really listen to the "Time" intro or did it take up too much time. The Dark Side is an album that's different every time you listen to it. And I mean really listen.
This album brings back fond memories of my teenage years. Experimenting with LSD, listening to this, Pink Floyd's "Animals," "Division Bell, "Saucerful of Secrets," "Atom Heart Mother," and "Meddle" (my personal favorite). I'd ride for 7 or eights hours some times, with Pink Floyd, Jane's Addiction, and the Grateful Dead as my soundtrack. Great review, and fantastic edits. If you do another Pink Floyd record, I'd recommend Animals or Meddle. As I mentioned in another comment, it would be great to see you review the Velvet Underground's first album, or their second album "White Light, White Heat." The band was formed and adopted by Andy Warhol, who featured the band during art-filled lightshows with art, music, movies playing behind them, from 1965-1966 in New York City. Lot of interesting history to each record, and the band itself. A couple fun facts about the record: -The singer during "The Great Gig in the Sky" almost didn't show up to recording of the song because she didn't really know the band, and didn't really care for what she heard. -The guitar effects during "Any Colour You Like" are made using a variety of pedals, mostly Tremeolo and Wah pedals. -I'd highly recommend watching the short documentary "The Making of the Dark Side of the Moon" There is a section that details how they created the samples for "Time" and "Money." As songs were recorded on physical tape at that time, they had to splice out each sound from its original recording one by one and attach/tape/glue them to a new reel which the song was recorded on.
@@JaKarTV I appreciate the response! I forgot to mention when I'd "ride" I would ride my bike around Ohio where I grew up listening to this music. I love the channel and look forward to future videos especially if you cover the Velvet Underground. It has been said that "John Cale (From Wales) introduced Lou Reed to Eastern music and poetry, and Lou introduced John to Heroin.." However, John Cale is one of the last surviving members of the group, still alive at 81/82 and actually still tours! A good friend of mine went to Brooklyn so see his only US date last year. If you ever do any sort of "fan meetup" in Las Vegas it would be pleasant to meet. If I can send any other recommendations, Fred Neil's Self-Titled Record, Bob Dylan live at Budokan (the original release) in Japan, Grateful Dead live in Veneta Oregon 1972 (Sunshine Daydream Concert), Godspeed You Black Emperor "Lift Your Skinny Fists like Antennas to Heaven," Timber Timbre Hot Dreams (both Canadian groups) and Jane's Addiction's "Nothing's Shocking." Of course, these are recommendations. You may love some, you may hate some, if you ever get to it. Take care, my friend; I look forward to the videos you CHOOSE to release :)
@@cameronkisiel Woww you’re in Vegas! That would be really dope! & I’m definitely listening to another album by them soon with headphones on to really sink in every aspect of their music !!
Supertramp, 1974, Crime of the Century. One of the greatest albums ever made. If this album didn't do it for you, I guarantee you, that one will. I will stake my name on it.
The lyrics that you were reading out are actually spoken in the background, not sung. The vocals on 'The Great Gig in the Sky' are intended to illustrate emotions when you realise that you're dying, anger resistance denial and acceptance.
The entire album is basically one long song. Once you get that concept, it makes sense. And if you weren’t into the vocals and thought there were too many instrumentals, you are probably done with Pink Floyd already. They tried to make this album concise, which isn’t what they did previously or after this album. Time, Great Gig, and Us and Then are three songs i always stop what I’m doing to listen to when they come on, but yeah it seems like your Pink Floyd journey is probably done with. You’re not there yet, but someday you will be.
Highly recommend listening to their album Wish You Were Here. It has more vocals and an overall better sound than this album. Even though this album is great
This album is not collection of track, but rather 2 sides. As in, this was intended to be on vinyl which as 2 sides. You should list to each side in its entirety at least. Otherwise, you do lose something.
You need to listen to In the Court of the Crimson King, by King Crimson. If you do, just make sure you DO NOT fall into the trap that many do, where they listen to only that album, or expect all their other albums to sound the same. Their three best are In the Court of the Crimson King, Red, and Discipline. But again, listen to it all. King Crimson has an album for everybody.
why watch if you cut it? music is sequential you spit on this art by butchering it NONSENSE i cant see why anyone would watch you desecrating this great music NONSENSE AND DISRESPECT

Gotta play the whole album my man…we like the music just as much as your reactions to it. ❤️
Clare Torry is underrated for 'Great gig in the sky'. Her second take was what they put on the album and she said it wasn't good enough
I was listening to Floyd in 73 and yes, you need headphones but I see that you are in your car so that means you probably have a good sound system.
Pink Floyd has their own genre and buddy do yourself a favor and listen to with headphones! They put stuff in you can’t hear without them💕💕💕
