Fax I first heard it in 2007 blew me away, I can imagine hearing this in 73. They got a gift but when I heard it it was an experience for me.
I've watched a lot of "reactions" to this album and the songs therein. Some were good, some not so, but few of them portrayed a reaction as authentic as yours in this video. It was a real joy to watch, thank you for being you and for helping us remember what it was like when we first listened to DSOTM. At one point you said of the album, "people should study this." Well in a way, you just did!

Got this album in 75 changed my musical DNA forever
It took me from just the overlaying music of songs, but the underlying nuances. I began digging Pink Floyd at the same time I was getting into the Grateful Dead. Both groups did magic with their instruments and both began styles many musicians followed without knowing from where it came.

It seems that a huge number people loved this album enough to sell over 45 million copies (and still selling today - an average week will see 8,000+ sold) and occupy a spot on the Billboard 200 for 988 weeks (roughly 19 years). As of this year, it is the fourth highest selling album of all time. How fortunate are we that this masterpiece will be available for us, and future generations to come, to enjoy over and over. We can never again experience this for the first time, but watching new listeners is nearly as good. Stay well.

In The Great Gig In the Sky it was singer Clare Torry who provided the improvised, wordless vocals during recording!
Comfortably Numb is my favorite song, but Great Gig in the Sky is arguably their most perfectly executed song ever. Every time I hear it, I'm moved to my core
David Gilmour (lead singer and guitarist of Pink Floyd) easily takes the cake for me as my favorite guitarist of all time. He doesn't rip or shred. His goal isn't to see how many notes he can hit or how fast he can move up the neck of the guitar. He just focuses on tone and perfect execution. Every note he plays fits so perfectly into the song and is exactly what we need at the moment. Their Pulse concert's rendition of Comfortably Numb is mind blowing.
Of all the incredible guitarists out there, if I could choose one that I wish I played like, it would be Gilmour, without a doubt.
After about 17 years of practice I played the TIME solo, ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL solo, and Comfortably num solo and his solos are the most fun solos to play in my experience 🤘

Heard this album more than 1,000 times. STILL amazed at how “put together” and mature the writing and composition is. It’s just mastered completely. This is lightning in a bottle. It doesn’t happen every day. Enjoy it every time you have the privilege of experiencing it.

The singer on Great Gig..was Clare Torrey, a session singer. She did this in two takes, totally improvised. She asked the band what they wanted, they just told her what the track was about, she did the rest. Absolutely uncanny talent.
So the album "Meddle" was the transition from old Pink Floyd to this era.

Dedicated to founding band member Syd Barrett who was dropped from the band a few years earlier suffering severe mental health issues and the effects of drug abuse.
Syd was dearly loved, but the late 60's was a different time and Roger, Dave, Richard and Nick were 4 young guys simply not equipped to give Syd the expert care he needed.

Is another masterpiece having the lyrics and some knowledge of the Back Story definitely helps with understanding.
They brought the concept album into our world. They changed 29:51 lives with this album for 50 years… and still are today. Genius level music 🎼 ❤
The singer here was Clare Torry (brought in by the amazing Alan Parsons) - she is one of the only two outside vocalists to ever perform on a Pink Floyd album. The other one was Roy Harper, who sang lead on the song "Have A Cigar" from the following album "Wish You Were Here".
Pink Floyd is the greatest band ever… but Roy Harper was incredible in that song. Better than gillmour, Wright, or waters could have done it
I may seem abnormal to you, but I have to write this down: I first heard this album when I was ten years old (in 1975), and since then I've listened to it at least a thousand times (and God willing, I hope to listen to it several more times. I'm writing about this because I'm purposely seeking video responses to my first listen of this album (but all Pink Floyd songs). It always makes me smile, while often bringing tears to my eyes to see the surprised and amazed expressions on the faces of listeners. People often say that this album (or Pink Floyd) somehow changed their lives. I can't say that, but I'm happy that God blessed Dave, Rick, Nick and Roger with such talent and that they were able to give us all such incredible works that have gone down in world music history once and for all.

This album is about Birth, life and all between and Death.
In The Great Gig In The Shy, few people pay attention but when Clare Tory pushes her high notes, 21:30 the piano stops playing to play organ to put more power into her voice and it's just Gorgeous.
I would highly suggest the pulse version they do the whole album live
Also the 1974 Wembley bootleg where they started off with Shine on You Crazy Diamond, followed with the songs that would be later renamed Sheep and Dogs, then Dark Side in its entirety before finishing up with Echoes.
Its such fun watching someone when we all know whats coming next :)

"Time" is probably one of the most relevant songs written in the history of mankind. It will be around long after all of us are dead and continue to touch people for generations because it is the TRUTH.
You reminded me of my first listening to this album. I was blown away - these guys were young, spent their lives on stages and in studios. How the hell did they know all that stuff about the real life. And how did they turn it into a symphony for all of the ages. Covering the fecklessness of youth, the inevitability of death. The pointlessness of war, the senselessness of avarice. The treadmill of a working life, the degeneration into madness. And the redeeming power of love. Speak to Me - well it did - and still does, profoundly.

Pink Floyd is a musical must, glad you got to discover them. I would recommend " Horses" the 1975 debut album by Patti Smith, an album which has long become considered a breakthrough masterpiece of minimalist originality and poetic improvisation.

My big brother called this the most influential album of his life. He passed away two years ago, and I've been immersing myself in Dark Side of The Moon since then... because it makes me feel closer to him. I've said it matches his intelligence and his emotional depth. He was a genius - a hair's width from madness his whole life.

Respect man from Norway from a Finnish expat - I've had the same experience with The Dark Side of the Moon years back and being a straight Rock and Roll guy, must admit that this one still hits me hard where it feels good in my soul! Thank you for your honest reaction, though our (your and mine) musical backgrounds differ greatly (I'm trained - before my R'nR "career playing guitar in a local rock-band), I still revere this album as one of the greatest piece of popular music..!

Now, as in 1973 (I was there and testify), you realize during your listening that you are tripping. No drugs, alcohol or distractions. You had to talk to us but the music still made its affection inside your brain; as it was for me 51 years ago (and DSOM-ing every 10 years or so since then). Thank you again. Powerful stuff this album. This was the first record I ever purchased in 1977, I was 13 years old. It came with 2 posters and a sticker! For me it's one of the best works ever recorded. (Btw, your reaction was priceless bro. Peace)

I love this album. My dad had it and I listened to it 30 years ago. I just listened to it Monday and played it to the eclipse that just happened and I timed it so when the moment of totality hit where I live, the lyrics from the song eclipse and the sun is in tune and the sun is eclipsed by the moon at the second it hit. I got a rough video of it but man it was amazing.

The first song was about a man (true story) was told that if he missed this flight he would be fired. So this guy was running to catch his plane but it takes off and crashes killing every one on the plane.

This album entered my life in 1983 when I was 14 and has been a regular part ever since. I fell asleep to this every night during high school and in my 50s I again fall asleep every night to either Dark Side, The Wall, Wish you were here, or Final Cut.

Dark Side of the Moon was in the top echelon for over 700 weeks, after it came out. It took a brief pause. Then it retook its place, going for a total of more than 980 weeks and counting.
This was like me hearing the album again for the first time but through you. Your reactions were so honest and enthusiastic. Keep delving into more Pink Floyd.
Generally considered one of the ultimate if not the ultimate “Concept Album” where all the songs are connected. It tells the story of life and the lack of repeated verses as the story unfolds is so refreshing and makes this the definitive ‘listen although the way through’ album. Like everyone here I loved your reaction. For many of us in the 70’s this too was our eaction, albeit in my case lying down with mates or my own, in a darkened room, slightly spliffed up and then just being transported. No other word for it. ❤

The singer is Clare Torry. She was originally paid £30 for her part. When the album became a mega hit she sued and Pink Floyd settled but amount not public.

Love your reaction. I was born in 84 and I only heard this album in 2012. After a song was used at the climax of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony. I had to find out what it was. Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon. That album and album cover is always heard about but always thought it was just something people a generation or two above me always talked about but I expected it to be crap to be perfectly honest with you. Then I listened to it. Just mesmerising. Never heard anything since that is just so perfectly crafted and is music for the soul. Seeing you have the same kid of reaction is just fun. Thank you man.

I was 12 years old when this came out... just getting into other bands like Zeppelin, Stones, etc. and as if Zep. hadn't already opened my eyes to the depth of rock music of the day, and along comes Dark Side... it was the epitome of sonic art of the day, and will forever be one of the greatest albums of all time.

Remember - a lot of the engineering (panning, synths, overdub....) was new at the time. I bought this album when it came out and its content was unheard of. We used this record to "grade" our analogue stereo systems to see how good they played this record. A good damn milestone in so many ways. Still listening to it, The lyrics hits harder the older I get.

She was a contract singer who showed up on a sunday. This was her second take. Got payed standard union rate only to renegotiate yrs later.
I can’t adequately put into words how mind blowing this was when it dropped. I’ll just say I’ve listened to this album at least twice a month since I first purchased it in April 1973. It’s still as profound today as it was then, maybe more as I’ve aged. 🫶🏼PF forever.

I am 55. I remember vividly when my dad brought this album home when I was a little girl. I still feel as profoundly connected to this album now as I did when I first heard it.

You wanted to know about who sang The Great Gig in the Sky. The short version of that story is, a white session singer from London who had never heard of PF. One day her agent called her and told her to report to Abbey Road studios for...something. She showed up and an engineer told her that she was there to improvise...whatever she wanted over the music PF had written - as long as she sang no words. She listened to the music, thought "What the hell?" and stepped up to the microphone and...delivered an awful performance. Then the guitarist came over and said, "Yeah, I know this is impossible but if you try to imagine that you are a soul realizing that your body is dying, first you're terrified, then you're angry, then you calm down and start to accept it and then you feel peace. Something like that". And she - Claire Torrey was her name - said, "Oh, sure, no problem. That's easy". And her next take she delivered THAT! Hard to believe!
And she was paid only 30 pounds
Their previous album Meddle is good, but then they just went off the charts with DSotM. It's crazy just how much they refined their craft in such a short period, and made possibly the greatest album of all time. It's a masterpiece.

This album was recorded and mixed by Allan Parsons. The sax was played by the great Tom Scott. Clare Tory is the singer on Great Gig in the Sky, she is 76 now.
I was a kid when this came out but I listened to it all throughout my college days and since. One of the greatest albums ever.
