- I'm busting 20 Super Mario myths and rumors in today's video. Questions you've always wondered like can you actually get over the flag pole in super Mario bros?
In this video, I'll take a look at a complete history of Mario rumors. Our journey covering major rumors starts with Super Mario Bros. on the NES, and goes all the way to Mario Tennis Aces on the Nintendo Switch. Can you unlock Waluigi in Super Mario 64 DS? i believe the luigi's shadow thing was confirmed to be caused by a bug they weren't able to fix in time for the game's release

Yeah. The lightning angle is tied to the camera, so when the camera moves, the position of the shadows cast by the lightning does as well.
I love how these secret unlockable character myths are always faked in a really obvious way, but people will often still believe them because they want it to be true.

Fun fact: after 24 years and 01 month after the release of Super Mario 64 in Japan it was discovered that Luigi was in Super Mario 64 as mentioned in the video, pretty scary

@@nocontext400 i downloaded the rom and played on my own ds, it is real and it works. Keep in mind that its not like the actual Mario galaxy, since its on ds. The game is bare bones but it works.
About the number 4 being unlucky in Japan, there's actually a valid reason why. The Japanese word for the number 4 is "Shi", which can also be read as the Japanese word for death. Because of that, 4 is considered an unlucky number in Japan, to the point some Japanese stuff references it. I'd state what kinds of things, but the anime that referenced that bad luck number that I have seen in it, is very non-family friendly, to put it lightly.

Japanese is a syllable-based language so it's not that simple.
It's all about context.
An example:
"kokoro"
That could mean: "556" as "ko" is "five" and "ro" is "six".
Most Japanese wouldn't make this connection though, at least not immediately.
Why? Because "kokoro" also is a common word in itself. It means "heart".
There probably is more nuance to this but that is what I could piece together myself whilst reading 556 Lab and it's whole spiel about artificial children and how their serial number "became" their names over time as people will develop an ego no matter the circumstances of their birth.

0:21 it's a bit harder, but you can do this in 1-1 by glitching a koopa onto the bottom of the screen, and because of the way the top and bottom of the screen works, you can jump to the top and bounce off the koopa over the flagpole
the 4-4 ghost can be seen in levels besides 4-4. Swanky Box has a video on it. Also I found an ester egg in wii sports resort where you can hear singing in the serpents cavern at night if you stop your plane there in island flyover. idk if anyone else has found that yet

The minus world in SMB was a bug, not a secret. It's obvious after you find that one of the levels is just underwater and softlocks you
And it's actually not a negative one. All stages in SMB are named (world number) - (stage number), so this would be world 0, or nothing, and that's why it's (blank) - 1. It was probably use to test the game during development.

The warp pipes move you to the world the number above them points to. The bug happens because when you glitch through the wall, Mario can enter the pipe before the floating number appears. So the number above the pipe is empty, and this level is loaded instead.
Another thing: Glitched worlds are not necessarily programmed, but instead read off from other memory. Basically, mario worlds are stored in memory as a bunch of values. Each value indicates which objects are to be loaded in next how. The glitch worlds load in memory from wrong places, so miscellanious code is read and creates either slightly different worlds, or in case no real world is loaded as background world a partially completely random tileset

The SMO DLC for Sunshine, the clip shown actually varies a little from the regular Sunshine Plaza, not to mention obviously there's stands and NPC around the area. I'm just genuinely shocked by how good the Pianta animation is! It's obviously a fake, but a damn good one I must say!
Side note, Isle Dalphino actually is located on the globe in SMO as a Easter egg, but only as a model. The texture isn't correct, so it appears as ocean. You can see it when the light reflects on it

8:38 I remember watching a video on this. Supposedly there are 3 ghost locations in that game. One at the train, one at the location you showed and another at a haunted house if I recall correctly.

I'm old enough I remember most of these myths firsthand- the 1up in the tower was just a known location back then, same with the fog. Now as for "L is real, 2401", I knew people who tried nearly everything to make that work. One popular idea was that playing on 2/4/01 (or 4/2/01, it was unclear if it was February 4 or April 2) would make him appear.

When I was 10 we had playground rumors about the minus world. No one could say they'd seen it, but there were vague descriptions of how people heard other people got there. I decided to try it one day while my 15-year-old brother watched. After a few minutes, he got frustrated and said, "Give up, it's probably not even real!" *Right* after he said that, I slid into the wall, and we freaked out. It turned out to be a pointless glitch with no exit, but actually finding it, and right then as if on cue, was great.

They removed Kamek from the game as rare had allowed Nintendo to use the DK assets that they made, replacing Kamek with DK late into development.
I like how he said that Birdo wasn’t part of the first dlc but in then in 2023 we get Birdo as a booster course pack character.

If they don’t make super Mario odyssey dlc, it’s a big missed opportunity. I know that people might think the dlc moons would effect the actual games moon count but Nintendo could simply make a seperate moon count for the dlc kingdom/kingdoms

waluigi was originally planned for the game, but was cut due to time restraints. this was revealed by an official developer on the game. the only 'ingame' footage seen was on a newsletter where the rabbit that gives a key was purple.
I recall seeing the ghost in Super Mario 3D Land through a window in one of the other ghost houses as well

12:21 The thing about this sign is that the given reading for it is applicable in both situations. The giant dead creature referring to the largest Boo in the courtyard. When it sees red, ie. looks at Mario and turns transparent, a new way to go opens, that being the entrance to Big Boo’s Haunt. I love this secret, and I don’t think it should be brushed off as a coincidence!

And according to Miyamoto, Mario and his friends are a troupe of actors, so all Mario games are plays, but SMB3 was the one they actually made it look like one.

Actually, the ghost of mario lands 3d appeared in all the ghost houses and not only the 4-4 one
My favorite thing about the "L is real" plaque showing up in OOT is I legit met people who, because of the Mario rumor, then had it spread to think somehow, someway, Luigi was in Zelda somewhere as some weird unlockable bonus character, like it would be a second Luigi-focused game.. or just Luigi able to jump around Hyrule
Also I am pretty sure the "Sunshine DLC in Odyssey" also sprouted from people diving into the code of an early version of Odyssey and the globe texture map had a vaguely dolphin shaped island on it, thus.. Delfino.. but it was later confirmed it was just odd texture bump and also smoothed out in later versions to remove said bump..

The good news is that there are least two projects in development to port/remake Super Mario Galaxy for DS. One is a homebrew game, and one is a Super Mario 64 DS hack, and both replicate things like the gravity mechanics rather well from what we've seen.
But sadly, there's no official version.
For some interesting info about some of the other myths...
1. Apparently it's Ukiki (the monkey from Mario 64) driving the bus and not Diddy Kong, if the Mario Wiki and official Japanese site are to be confirmed:
"The highway bus driver (silhouette) is a Ukiki from Super Mario 64."
2. The ghost in 3D Land appears somewhere else. Namely, if the player looks in the window at the start of level 8-4.
Regardless, it's a neat list, and it's neat to see lots of Mario myths examined like this!
6:25 MART KART 💀💀💀
The minus world is actually a glitch. It's caused by the warp zone being loaded improperly due to clipping through the wall instead of dropping into it. The first character is coincidentally a blank character in the games code, as it is not intended for mario to ever access worlds past 8. The level itself is actually identical to a subworld in world 8.
The funny thing is now that Diddy Kong has a very high chance of being in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
The "ghost" at 8 minutes looked more like a stalfos or was it just me? By the bye, that creepy little kokiri girl in the lost woods during the big-Goron's sword sidequest is what kept me coming back ♥️ also the "ghosts" seen in the background of 4-2 look like the 4 ancient ones from Majora's Mask
The first "myth" about a hidden world in the original Super Mario Bros has been known about since around the time the game came out. 80s kids always taught each other how to reach what we called "Minus World". I think it was even mentioned in strategy guides or Nintendo Power at the time. If I remember correctly, even the original official Nintendo released game guide mentioned it

Diddy Kong just might be added in the mario kart 8 dlc, they added birdo and the roster leaved 5 question marks for future characters for the dlc. It's only a speculation, but there's still a chance he might be added. Yipee

Even though the Luigi hanging shadow is a glitch, the idea would still be absolutely amazing in a haunted house.
The L is real sign is just called "text texture" or something like that in the files, and it appears in a couple of places in Ocarina because the games were developed simultaneously, so lots of textures amd mechanics were used in both. It's not supposed to say anything, but I love the theories around it.

The 4-4 ghost has always scared me, but he does appear on the same level in the beginning, just stay next to the window and he will appear, so he appears again. Legend says that he follows u threw the game.

I love the myth about the Mario Odyssey DLC, it’s like you said and almost anyone would agree that it would make perfect sense that Nintendo would make Mario Odyssey DLC because of the succes of the game. So the fact that there’s still no DLC means chances are very high that we have another Galaxy situation here, where some additional plans for the original game got so big they decided to make a whole sequel. Wouldn’t be surprised if we’ll get news on Mario Odyssey 2 combined with the new Nintendo console announcement since the Switch is also going towards its end in the console lifecycle

As an aside for the Luigi in Mario 64 thing. This may be wild to some but internet was not fully a thing then. Rumours were whisperings from friends and hearing from a guy who knows a guy. Or articles someone may have seen. There was also long standing (and wrong) rumours you could find the triforce in ocarina of time.
It was just a wild time, before things could be dismissed digging into files. And I kinda miss it not being provable, at least a bit.

A few things to mention:
Minus World - Unsure if this counts as a "secret level", at least any more than Missingno is a secret Pokemon. It likely is created due to the path taken not loading 1-2's warp zone completely (where you'd see all 3 pipes going to the respective worlds). Minus World is mostly the same as 7-2, and known to the game as apparently 36-1.
Leaks in Mario Kart 8 roster - While I don't think I've heard of E Gadd or Diddy Kong... Inkling Girl and Boy, Link, and Isabelle were released in Mario Kart 8 and Deluxe. Link even has a new motorcyle, the Master Cycle, which you can get in Breath of the Wild I believe from an Amiibo and you'd put in materials as fuel.
Luigi's shadow in Luigi's Mansion - I'd agree it's likely just odd happenings with the camera and lighting source. It does feel like a thing you can't unsee though, especially disturbing since Nintendo's probably the most family friendly company.
Luigi in Mario 64 - Probably one of gaming's biggest urban legends. Potential ways to unlock him involved "Run around this thing X times", or "Punch this X times", or "Play this other N64 game". None of it was discovered to be true, but I'm surprised to find that Luigi does indeed exist in the game files, as a scrapped multiplayer feature.
In Mario kart 8 at the time of the video video wasn't in it, but she is now just in the dlc

You can find Yoshi in the Original Mario 64. But In Super Mario 64 DS, He Replaced Waluigi. But Many People say that in the Video of Contribute to Charles Martinet in August 2023 showed that Waluigi was in Super Mario 64. Waluigi was proposed to Super Mario 64 DS by Shigeru Miyamoto. But Waluigi was only found in Super Mario 64 Contribute to Charles Martinet (Super Mario 64 Credits)
