      This is why Gen X is the best generation. You didn't use goofy animations and addressed the tech as it was. We just ordered Roku over Amazon mainly for the Remote app options and plug in headphones. Online Amazon and Roku are considered the top 2 sticks for basic 4k TV users.
      Honestly I didn't care about these sticks because I used PS4. The plan was to upgrade to PS5 but the hustle of getting one turned me off. And PS4 is now downgrading it's functions and " mysteriously" performing badly So now we are getting Roku. Thank you for the added intel. Great video you 2 🙂

      @@Jellofreeze Ha, we can't argue with you on the Gen X comment...regardless of everyone ignoring Gen X. :) Ask our kids and they like the goofy animations. :)
      We like, and use, both sticks and both have their selling points. You'll likely be happy with the Roku.

    We have both devices in the house, I use the Roku and the wife the firestick. My wife plays with the device all the time and when she can't get what she wants she goes crazy. She doesn't know what she is doing half the time and when I went into to finally try the thing she could not explain how to use the remote. My Roku is old as it was given to me 3 years ago. With her firestick I am reminded of internet service from the 80s The firestick is really not for someone who can barely pull up email account on a computer. I am in my very late 70s and have forgot so much about the computer that the Roku is as easy as a calculator
    The firestick may be fine for people younger than 50 but not for people about to turn 80. I guess the over 50 in the country don't matter as they rarely text and driver like the younger people do. Hell I still prefer talking than trying to text. Same goes for the Streaming devices, the Roku was very easy learn and using the remote with my hand stills does Roku when I have the remote from a firestick

      Ha, we're not certain of the age breakdown of the two but you have a valid point. We regularly use both and Roku is typically very simple to use and Fire Stick can be cumbersome, especially with the number of ads.

I don't really care that the 4 channel buttons. I never use them even though i have access to three of the 4... I recently cut the cord and added a TCL Roku TV, OTA antenna and HD HomeRun. The TCL Roku TV worked fine with the HD HomeRun. So I purchased a Roku 4K stick expecting the same results on my Vizio TV, but it wouldn't get audio with the HomeRun. So I moved the Roku stick to the Sony TV in the master bedroom. And while I did get audio from the HD HomeRun the picture was horribly pixilated. Long story short I sent back the Roku stick and ordered a couple of Firesticks which have worked flawlessly with both TV's and the HD HomeRun.

      @FrugalRules  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course! It depends on how new the smart TV is as it may have the services you want/need already installed. The non-smart TVs will likely need one, but you can also physically move them to each TV if you'd rather not purchase a device for each one. You'll need a live service for both. Sling Blue is the most affordable, with TH-cam TV being the best overall, especially if you want a more premium service. 🙂

    I have a question about the Amazon 4K fire stick interface. When I hit the live button, nothing happens. Do you have to have an Amazon fire recast to have the button respond. I do have an over the air antenna attached to my Samsung TV. I have to go change inputs to see my live channels which of course is easy but annoying.

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question! And, we learned something new to boot. :) To access them, when you're on the interface scroll over to the right to the settings wheel. From there select "Live TV" and it will prompt you for your PIN.Then, select "Manage Channels." Select Fire TV Recast, this should bring up all of the available locals. Select the ones you want and leave the screen. Go back to the home screen and scroll down to "On Now" and select "Guide." You should then see the channels you favorited listed there. We tried this on our basement TV, that has the 4K interface but no Recast. Hope that helps!

    As usual,, three thumbs up. 👍👍👍
    I STARTED streaming using my Samsung Q6fn, but I soon found that I also needed another device to get those apps that the tv didn't carry.
    At that time, Google and Amazon were throwing bombs 🤨😡💣💥🤕 at each other, so the Fire Stick didn't carry TH-cam tv, and I got the Roku Ultra, which with only the following exception, I have been completely satisfied with.
    I HATE the location of the volume and mute buttons on the remote. If you aren't paying close attention when you pick it up, you mute the sound. Not a deal killer, but still aggravating nonetheless. 😒
    Never having used a Fire Stick I can't really judge, except by what I see in videos like this one, and I have not yet seen a reason to change devices.
    The ease of use, clean format, and neutral position on the apps it carries, IMO make the Roku Ultra much better.
    Unless things change drastically when it comes time for a new device, I'll stay with Roku.

      Thanks! We remember those days of Amazon & YT TV not playing nice together. We hear you on the remote for the Roku. When we use it we find it very easy to "fat finger" it and mute/adjust the volume. Annoying, yes, but no reason to not use it at all. We've used Fire devices for years, but do really like the app-agnostic approach of the Roku.

      @RyuHayabusa751 Thanks for pointing that out. Taking a look at the options on Amazon it looks like they're not compatible with all Roku sticks, unless we're missing something, so would need to be careful in purchasing.

      @RyuHayabusa751 Yea, we're big fans of the sticks. The portability is a huge selling point for us. The more set top like devices don't offer that. But, if that's not a need for you (generally speaking here) then that certainly opens things up more.
