    Sifu reminds me of one of my all time favorite Kungfu fighting games, Jet Li's Rise to Honor. I LOVED that game because of it's use of the thumb sticks to be able to just flick it to any direction and attack enemies, and the fighting in Sifu, while not the same, does give me that same sort of vibe.

    I LOVE THIS GAME!!! GREAT JOB SLOCLAP!!! Just finished the true ending.
    I love that the story isn't straight forward. They tricked you into thinking you needed to go through and murder everyone and then have to figure out how to spare them. I thought that was creative and way better than the stupid mass effect multiple choice dialog options. I actually figured out that you could spare them based on the achievement for killing the final boss saying that you "killed" him in parentheses. Thats another thing, the achievements were subtle tutorials, like the one tells you to jump over tables to control the flow of battle, another says to use your environment by throwing stuff, etc

    The only negative about Sifu's difficulty is that once people beat it, they are less likely to go back and get the True ending. Sparing the bosses and getting more insight on why they killed your father is where the story really opens up.

      @1Invinc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Not true.
      This game appeals to players who want to overcome that difficulty and look good doing it.
      I find myself replaying the game repeatedly even after getting the true ending, not to beat the game...
      But to "choreograph" that perfect fight scene. In my head, I'm like "Alright this is the Tony Jaa playthrough" and I blitz everything with the moves that most resemble Muay Thai. Or "This is the Jackie Chan playthrough", and I bounce all over the environment lots, use environment mastery to throw weapons and chairs all over. Or the "Ip Man" playthrough where I try to parry more and use chasing strikes a lot more.
      The fun isn't in beating the game. The fun is in learning to master the game. And in that thematic sense, it's super meta and brilliantly displays the spirit of Kung Fu.

    I wouldn't at all classify this as a roguelike... there's no random generation of environments, no different upgrades that change every time you play a level again, no alternate level paths, etc. I am a HUGE roguelike/lite fan and this is really just a hard-core single player fighter.

    • @nandoman4769
      @nandoman4769 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree. Every time you lose or go back to previous levels you have to regain skills that you didn’t permanently unlock which will probably be most moves that you have. There definitely are alternate and hidden paths in most levels that unlock once you play the level the first time. Sure it’s not the most hardcore roguelike but it’s definitely not just a fighter.

    • @Wraiven22
      @Wraiven22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nandoman4769 idk I have to disagree, I play roguelikes and roguelites more than any other genre of game and Tifu didn't play anything like those games. Having to repeat levels to get a better score does not a roguelike make.. I mean by that standard wouldn't that make any old arcade game like Pacman a roguelike because you keep replaying the same levels to get a better score?

    Great review and great game. My biggest issue was the camera; hands-down. The Tower level pissed me off to no end because the camera was unreliable and got me killed more than my mistakes... It's also proven by the fact that the best and cleanest parts of the game are the hallway sequences with the locked, far-away camera. That was the only 'perfect' moment in the game while I felt equally challenged and badass.

      I have not beaten the game. I deleted it after the second boss, the fire staff boss. Because no matter how much I dodged and or blocked, he Insta killed me in point two seconds. I tried it 20 times. The difficulty slider going to the second level is ridiculous and just feels like it’s there to fuck with a player instead of present a reasonable challenge. Definitely coming back to this game when they give you a difficulty option.

      @@jeremiahhaberstock6790 the fight teaches you the fundamentals of the boss fights going forward. You can dodge almost all of his attacks in the same directions other than the sweeps. The optimal way to go about this fight is to Parry his normals and dodge the combo finisher and get damage when you can in the first phase. The second is a bit harder because he will start to unpredictably dodge away. In this phase it's much easier to whittle down his posture with parries than it is to attack him directly since there are fewer opportunities. Hope this helps. 3rd boss is definitely much worse imo and the 5th is bonkers.

      I don’t disagree entirely but I feel like because they feel like they need to do skits for it to be a legit angry review that sometimes it just means certain games just don’t ever get reviewed because they don’t have enough time. Like for me personally I’d rather them do a sit down review for a game with no skits then to not get a review for a big game at all. Don’t get me wrong I love the skits but Joe has talked in the past about how sometimes when a lot of games come out around the same time they won’t end up doing a review because all they have time for is a sit down review and he feels If he doesn’t do skits and the typical format people will see that review as a lazy effort from them

    Sifu had what I wanted Absolver to have, a more fleshed out story mode. Hope they continue making great martial arts games, maybe adding in parts of both games that were well liked.
    Difficulty settings are ultimately up to the devs, but I always welcome them as it allows more accessibility to people that may be unable to play at the level they wish to. As long as it doesn't detract from the core gameplay/difficulty, I think having easy/hard modes are great.

    It is mostly the built in combat mechanics and vast learning curve (simple to play, but takes time to utilize/master to its fullest) that is truly refreshingly challenging and rewarding for those that take the time to really get used to the tools given to you, to seek out your revenge and eventually achieve an understanding of what Martial Arts truly is (something that this game nails perfectly and quite honestly handles it better than even the AAA titles, regarding the cost of Vengeance and breaking the cycle of violence that comes with it). Absolutely adore this game and it is one of my favorite titles of 2022 so far. Very much akin to Sekiro/Star Wars: Fallen Jedi and knowing the best methods/strategies to take on multiple enemies/powerful foes that require you to utilize the environment and your skill set to its fullest potential.
