How the Queen’s soft power projected Britain around the world

  • The Commons Speaker is understood to have refused a request to allow a Chinese delegation to attend the Queen's lying in state.
    (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News...)
The move is in retaliation for China's sanctions against British parliamentarians who have accused China of mistreating Uighur Muslims.
The row means China may stay away from Monday's state funeral, which will be packed with the world's leaders.
Their attendance is a measure of how the late Queen's influence extended far beyond the Commonwealth and her dwindling number of realms.
Throughout her reign, governments deployed that influence to open up relationships with other countries, and secure new trade and job opportunities for Britain.

The British monarchy in its contemporary form traces its beginning to 1066 CE when William I (William the Comqueror) won Edward the Confessor's throne. It is, therefore, almost a millennia old, making it among the oldest behind Japan.
As for the queen, her committment to duty, foresight, dignity, and intelligence made her a formidable leader. As a lifelong head of state she would become one of the finest diplomats in modern history. She does deserve credit for achievements that kept Britain relevant since the end of its empire.

if you don't factor in the crushing quality the monarchy and the class system have on British ingenuity, dynamism, forward thinking, which ultimately costs the country far more. What is 21st century Britain? No one knows, because it's stuck in the 19th. Do you want to be a rising, dynamic country or a tourist attraction simply due to the fact that it's the only place where Kings and Queens weren't deposed or pushed to the sidelines? If the role were such that the British people themselves didn't believe in it like the mother they needed so dearly, then perhaps it could be useful. But as every 18 year old moves out from their parent's place in order to enter the real world, I think it's time for Britain to move on and figure out who they are in today's world.

In the small town in northern British Columbia where I grew up, a 50s-era portrait of the Queen still hangs in the curling rink; and one taken for her Golden Jubilee - in Canadian regalia - hangs proudly in the Legion hall. The Queen may not have been in the forefront of our daily lives, but the affection is real.

The reason why a monarchy head of state is so good is because you have a head of state that doesn't have to declare their political bias. The problem with presidents, let's take America for example, is you have to meet with either a republican or democrat head of state. That can sometimes make it difficult to build relations. Where as a monarchy, especially Britain's monarchy, can do what the British do very well. Sit on the fence and make light friends rather than enemies.

The Queen always carried herself with dignity and deportment, you could take the Queen anywhere, the Duke may have made a faux pas but not the Queen as the Head of State. Sadly the same cannot be said of President Joe Biden and wife. He behaves unmonitored. I advised ensure any young attractive females wear a hat 👒😜 . And I meant it. Sorry, but just because you are President does not mean you can behave I such a manner that bespeaks of animalistic impulses, lacking social norms and values. Last June 2021, when Jill Biden went before our Queen Jill Wright Biden wore a Trench Mac even though it was not raining. I was horrified and disgusted simultaneously, feeling affronted by such behaviour. Even in Cornwall Joe Biden disgraced himself sniffing attractive women’s hair. You just cannot carry on like that in life . We are British, with restraints. So could somebody take them in hand and advise them what is expected of world leaders !

King Charles III may have a bad rep and a state visit with him will probably not have as much weight as it did with the Queen. The late Queen Elizebeth used her softpower to persuede the commonwealth during a period of decolonization to not fall under the geopolitical and geoeocnomic influance of the Soviet Union. The Queen was quite astute of geopolitics especially the role of the UK in world affairs of international politics. But the queen also knew you cant sustain a facade of so called Brtish dominance and Western dominance of world ....it will backfire one day and we are living in such times. Queen Elizebeth dance with Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of the great nation Ghana helped her to see how she could enjoy great civilizations and cultures in freedom and space without being controlled by the political elite at the time. This where you could see how '' political soft power''' made space for real genuine interest, appreciation and respect especially in a time where people where raised with western supremacy and domination as normative thing.

    • @mamavswild

People have been saying the US has been in ‘rapid decline’ for over a hundred years, yet their 24th Aircraft Carrier was commissioned less than a week ago, their GDP and exports remain strong and nothing, including their internal strife, is different than anywhere else. This attack on ‘western’ dominance is ridiculous…if you’re big enough to play with the Big Boys, you get to play. China does, and let’s hope THEY do not become the premiere power, with their concentration camps, communism and executions. Who else? Your previous comments cheer on Russia while attacking Ukraine…let’s hope THEY do not hold supreme power. What other ‘non-western’ countries…the Middle East…ok…let’s hope THEY do not hold sway throughout the world with their Shariah Law, imprisoning of women who try to run away, oppressing of other religions…
Any other ‘non western’ nations to lift up? If they are, we’ll take a look at them. The fact remains that ‘western’ nations remain the ONLY nations where TRUE protections enshrined in law exist for the human rights of all people, men, women, LGBTs, white Black Asian and all others. Pick ANY ‘non western’ nation who protects all people from all walks of life and has it enshrined in law?
You couldn’t find a single one that does so.
This idea of yours of ‘western dominance’ is fallacious. Even if it was, until a non western country comes along with full protections for all, I’ll stick with the west. Not your ‘great nation of Ghana’, I assure you. You don’t want to get me started on THEIR human rights record.

The Saudi prince knew he will get the support from the Queen to establish his prominence as the next king of Saudi but what he didn't know is that he was taught with a lesson that women can drive too. Though it took many years to repeal the ban of women driving in Saudi. Saudi was not quick to act as that would also undermine men's dominance in the monarch. Somehow the Queen was pleased enough to witnessed the end of that prohibition in 2018. It ended the last nation in the world that disallow women from driving. ‘purely ceremonial’ and ‘soft power’ are completely opposite ends of the scale. Defence of the monarchy because they are purely ceremonial is factually incorrect, otherwise this video would be less than 30 second long. To have any sensible conversation about them requires us to be honest about what they are. Their power is real and constant so the right ‘time and place’ for that conversation is in fact, all the time, despite royalists who want that time and place to be never.

Have you ever wondered where leaders and monarchy even came from in the first place ???
Like do you honestly think someone just invented it one day ???
It's quite simple in ancient times we studied nature and the stars
They did what any respectful doctor would do that observed there patient.
Nature is our patient if we look after and heal nature,Nature will look after and heal us in return.
Nature provides everything we need to live and heal from sickness and pain.
    In a sustainable way.
Not this destruction of the world for self interest
We are the creator's so let's build magnificent cities again like Egypt
Or Ankar wat with its beautiful canal systems like beautiful arteries feeding the whole city with the nutrition it needs
Or the inca water systems that were like lungs supplying the city's with life giving natural pure water.
There was nothing else to do but imagine possibilities in those times hardly any people no TV no phones they looked to the stars and dreamed!
How do you think people like the Egyptians found out that putting moldy bread on wounds would help heal
Because it had penacilin in thousands of years before penacilin was invented in the so called modern world
Anyway back to my point leaders and monarchy came about from studying bees and ants.
Probably the greatest species on earth the one without we all die.
The queen it's soildgers then it's workers!
That's what our system of living was built of there foundation for that was from observing the greatest species we know of bees and ants.
Unfortunately bees are dying out because bees also heal humans in a different way they let of some kind of theromone that heals humans.
So yea does that make our society system make more sense to you!
    King/queen/president.
Soildgers to protect the king /queen/president.
And finally you the workers who die to feed and build for the king/queen/president.
Very simple design if you really think about it isn't it !!!!!!
We have advanced as a civerlization because of social conditioning.
But we have devolved mentality wise because of social conditioning.
We no longer have free thinking individuals in society or very few.
We have you could say society clones from cultural condioning of the materlistic society we live in.
It's time we went back to our roots of nature and evolve as a species again.
Then and only then will we be able to make hundreds of thousands of years of progress in the same amount of time of the modern stock market.
I know what I would choose!
    What would you choose???
Follow know one be your only leader in life!
Lead from your heart not your minds!
Find the courage to loose your self judgement, shame, fears and insecurities.
And be beautifuly you in all its glory just like nature

    • @macslife9500
      @macslife9500 2 ปีที่แล้ว

If only you humans had an understanding of the consequences of not knowing what it takes to be a real king.
You might actually change your minds 🙄
It's actually very sad because your enabling your own suffering because of this misunderstanding of false beliefs, patriotism and emotions
For a start a king hasn't been born into the world in thousands of years
We don't birth kings anymore because there's hardly any real kings to teach there children how to be kings.
Secondly nobody who is religious is fit to be king they worship false idols instead of worshipping there people
And it creates division instead of unity with other countries, religion and in our own society
Thirdly the public need to stop this patriotism bullshit if you think English society and culture is good or better than others you my friend are completely pyscotic 💯
Real kings don't have countries or races they don't need them they have love for there people!
Because that's all a king needs.
I don't know if Charles drinks but again a true king never drinks alcohol
Why because he will confuse his thoughts in turn forgetting what he decreed
A true king thinks for himself for his people not for government ,church or self interest
There's so much more but your all to emotional right now from the pycolagcal abuse of the media
Put it this way if the same amount of media coverage the queen has got the last week had been given and used instead for pychatrists to educate the public on the collective pycosis of cultural condioning
We could really make a difference in the world all this cost of living crisis would disappear the violence the sexual assaults burglary ect ect
All of it would disappear if we had the same amount of effort from our corrupt media as they use in dividing us for self interest like ratings
That's what a real king would do help his people not emotionaly abuse them for profit and power

Louie the 14th was the longest monarch for 72 years

    • @r.a.marriott6314
      @r.a.marriott6314 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Louis XIV became King of France in 1643, when he was aged 4, and throughout the ensuing eighteen years the country was governed ‘pro tempore’ by his regent and chief minister, Cardinal Jules Mazarin. Louis’ personal rule as an absolute monarch - a royal dictator - began after the death of Mazarin in 1661. Therefore, Louis’ regnancy lasted for 72 years until his death in 1715, but his absolute power as king lasted for only 54 years. By extreme contrast, Elizabeth II immediately became queen by right and inheritance on the death of her father King George VI in 1952, and with priorities of duty and service she was Head of State of a constitutional monarchy for 70 years.

For Ms Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor as a person, I have such great admiration. I don’t know why. Is it karma? I liked the way she moved her hand. I liked how strong she remained in her position. So much happened in her long life, and through it all, she stood like a mountain.
But as a queen? I don’t know. If she had apologized for the genocides, looting, robbery, enslavement, and all the other atrocities committed by the British, around the globe, then I may have liked her as a queen too. But that won’t happen now.
