Swishasweetroll I can tell you it’s not going to be 13 years, because that’s not what valve is now. They are a company that are detached to make games and earn money from their store.
At the end, Alyx gets electricity power similar to that of the vortigaunts abilities seen in the other games. Once freeing a vortigaunt earlier in the game, it states "There is no distance between us, we are coterminous." That is the same line of dialogue spoken by the singing vortiguant in Half-Life 2. Just some food for thought.

The Vortigaunts are able to read and control this force for their electrical powers, nearly hive-mind telepathy and, likely, their ability to take power from objects''. Very effective against those elusive Advisors too. Seems to bypass their dreaded telekinetic abilities
i think the reason valve likes to wait SO LONG before making/releasing new half life games is because whenever a new half-life game comes out it has to have something in it that makes it a game changer
I always thought that they released games with graphics in mind. HL1 had GoldSource and HL2 had Source. And with every game released on Source it had a different feel to it. Episode 1 and 2 had HDR support and so did Portal 2 and CSGO. But HLA just knocked it out of the park. Singlehandendly can win GOTY or atleast best VR title.
Yeah. It seems like ever since the first one, they've made it a staple for Half Life to always be the game to innovate something to the next level. It seems they save Half Life _just_ for the occasion that a new niche opens, waiting to be the first to jump in and, even if the game isn't great, it will be recognized for being revolutionary in whatever untapped market they're trying. For a while there after HL2 it was nothing but graphic improvements, which innovating those was what every other game was doing. Is why I think we have no HL3, no new frontier to explore. (That and they were worried it couldn't live up to the hype.) VR is the opportunity they've been waiting for and HL:Alyx is testing the waters while still doing something new. My theory is that the next Half Life game will be in like another 9 years or so when they can be innovative again. They clearly don't mind making us wait on a cliffhanger. We've heard Jack talk about Gaben saying humanity's like 9 years off from brain implant games.
nah its been inner tribalism inside the company and them having not released anything causing the hype and interest to build to extreme expectations for the next title. then theres the issue of valve having not had a useable S2 engine for the use by the public. also theres been several major HL3 games that got decently along before getting scrapped because of internal issues. gordon had an aperture science arm used for puzzles and combat and had to escape aperture science in one cancelled HL3. hell the huge HL3 leak that occured a few years back has some elements that we see in HL:A dog resource gathering turned into resin. hell the combine soldiers are one parameter off of reffering to you as gordon freeman with new HL:A style voices instead of copy paste HL2 lines. also fun fact the original guns you had in HL:A are what we see the combine using now including some cut mod featuring Homing bullets and tau cannon mod for the shotgun. also there was a major rewrite of HL:A 1 year ahead of time the made the story go from meh to what we see now. theres a whole 2 hours of intro that got cut. not to mention the funny fact that valve cut the creamator enemy from 2 different half life games.
Yeah. Totally agree with that. When they release Half life it will always be a game changer. Just like HL1 and HL2. This is more of "quality over quantity" but with added waiting time. I'm still mindblown about HLA because of the "Booze Shader". That literally could change simulations in games AND CG World. I'm interested in it.
Yes! Our/the fans' anticipation for it is ultimately the reason why it's really taking them a while and why their standard for their games is probably the highest in all companies, which is not bad but it obviously has its drawback but if this is something that can bring us something fresh and new; I'm kinda all for it! Quality over quantity babee!
Timmy Brukarczyk ima have to leave it I’m having that feeling when you finish a tv show or movie and not everything was explained and you need to know more ASAP. So my final offer is 10 years.
"THE Crowbar" moment was tear dropping magnificent for an old fart like me. As someone who played HL when it came out in a time where you read the box description before deciding to buy and play it. I still remember the opening like it was yesterday and the feeling of finding that crowbar for the first time. When HL came out, it was so groundbreaking. Seeing this HL Alyx is again taking that groundbreaking leap. Well done *Valve, be proud devs.
The scary thing of the G-man is in my eyes, that the sees himself just as an Employee. If he is able to manipulate time and Space and even can make a different outcome of future and past...... Who the hell is his boss and how mighty must they be?
You fail to see the point of that Gordon freeman has always been seen as inferiot to DOOM eternal/2016 Doomslayer, But with this it sets him up to be ABOVE them, Destroying reality shattering beings, Even DOOM hasn't done that.
Maybe he inherently doesn't have those powers, maybe his employers give him those powers when needed. Remember, he said he is "authorized" to nudge things from time to time.
Yeah his employers must be even wilder. THOUGH I have a feeling he's hiring himself in a way since time and space mean nothing to him. Why wouldn't his employers bust him out or why do they need humans to help instead of using space magic
no, alyx was hired but in the body of gordon. she died, was transfered to the blobby fleshball, coocooned,.. and turned into gordon when taking the crowbar. after all she was one of those super lesbians with too much masculine hormones ,so she had her gender changed. thats the only way how people have an excuse for the option to play a male character in the next episode. thats why.
the main writer for half life actually said that the enemies of shepard's game, race X, don't fit into his idea of half life cosmology, so valve decided to leave that faction alone in case gearbox ever made any more half life games.
I do want to see more of Shepard, regardless of whether or not Race X gets involved. Especially thanks to the weapons he had access to; I'd love to see how they approach the sniper and maybe even the LMG
@@benthomason3307 Adrian Shepard was bad ass tho and be a cool seeing old enemies working together . The enemy of my enemy is my friend type deal . Not to mention Adrian was betrayed by his own government ( black ops ) so the bad blood between him and Gordon would most likely go away quickly .
I love how one of the biggest concerns with putting vr into the mainstream is motion sickness and people having a hard time adjusting, yet Valve made the final level probably one of the trippiest experiences possible.
Not true. Anyone can get acclimated, just takes time and patience. One of the many myths about VR is that you will get motion sickness. You won't. You can get locomotion sickness, but again, you get acclimated.
I think a bigger concern is cost you need tip-top hardware to run a VR game and you need to fork over at least 400 dollars for a decent system. I can’t imagine a decent PC would be less than 2k and then the bare minimum VR interface-well that’s a lot of money. And that’s not even accounting for the cost of the Valve index at basically 1k. Let’s just say I’m thankful I got to watch this play through because it will be decades before I get that kinda money
Gman: What would you want nudged, Gamers? Gamers: Half-Life 3. We want Half-Life 3. Gman: Ahh. That would be a considerably large nudge. Too large, given the interests of my employers. Gamers: Well, you asked. Gman: What if I could offer you something you don't know you want? Half-Life Alyx - The game we didn't know we wanted.
His breathless, giddy laughter in the various sections and inability to commentate except for generalized remarks ('Jesus Christ', 'Holy Crap', 'DUDE!') gives an incredibly good look at just how much of an impact this game has.
After playing it myself, and after watching 2 playthroughs, i only now realized that the Combine were harvesting Vortigaunt energy to contain the G-Man. This is call back to half life 2 episode 1, where the Vortigaunt held back G-Man from speaking to Gordon in the opening sequence.
@@Cazanu417 in what way is it "the whole point?" I've played every game in the series close to a dozen times and have watched countless hours of youtube videos about the series or theorizing on my own. I'm a huge fan and am very familiar with the games. In retrospect this does seem decently obvious and I probably should've caught on earlier, but I fail to see how it's "the whole point."
And omg Jack liked my comment haha. But to all, were gonna get through this tough time , just yknow prepare dont hoarde and thank you Jack for spending your time on entertaining us with your amazing content! Hopefully we get Half life 3!
I think its pretty cool the Combine were actually holding G-man locked down, possibly because they're afraid of his power. Also I just realized the Combine were using Vortigaunts (or their psychic green mind powers) to actually keep him locked down, just like in Half Life 2 the Vortigaunts were able to keep him at bay.
hooooo-boy, that "come on Gordon, we got work to do" was essentially Valve speaking to us, not just Gordon. to add a comedic twist they could also be speaking to themselves saying "oh man do we have work to do"
I gotta say, Felix's play through was very funny at times but Jack's play through was the one to watch if you actually wanted to experience the game. I especially loved Jacks thoughts about the game mid-way through and after. Really interesting. I got so frustrated watching Felix crawl around during battles, leaving the viewer with nothing but the ground to see. Another thing was him forgetting to leave subtitles ON. And the most annoying thing by far was when he payed attention to something dumb like a bottle of bleach when the game was screaming at him to look at the cut-scene-like plot points. And sometimes he would even skip right by them and move straight to another room/area. Most frustrating. No offense but Felix was retarded (albeit fucking hilarious) when it came to playing Half-Life: Alyx.
@@wuddadid I'm not gonna lie when I say that my favorite playthrough was cerberusarms' playthrough, he just made it so cinematic and tried to keep fooling around to a minimum.
@Adam J. Harper No, no. Your explanation makes sense, I just don't believe it. And I don't think going through puberty a second time is going to change my mind. Felix just wasn't as interested in the game as he could've been, that's all there is too it.
@Adam J. Harper If he actually said something like that, I can believe it. It just sounded like something made up to defend him to me. I still find it disappointing how he refuses to get invested in the narratives of the games he plays, it's why I don't watch his videos very often.
@D4RK Sh4rDz ?? she was a great addition to the series. at the time hl2 came out she was the only example of a non obstructive and actually enjoyeable game companion. plenty of examples back then (and since then) of badly inserted game companions. Hell HL3 will be about getting her back.
@@tenjenk And possibly about putting an end to Gman's reign, or, at very least, getting him to agree to allow the combine to be kicked off Earth and stop meddling with human's lives.
I reckon it is a different reality. Getting to the Borealis, they discover it didn't jump through just locations. But Dimensions. It would explain why in Portal 2 Life on earth is vibrant. Because the Universe Our Chell was in, the combine didn't happen. Or The combine won. Just a fan theory however.
@@KaedeIshimora Fuck you mean life on earth as vibrant? There was grass. That was all we saw. More like, Portal 2 takes place thousands of years after Half Life 2 as Chell was in stasis for fucking forever, that's why Aperture is so worn down. The Combine as well as humanity are long gone. The Borealis literally does teleport through locations, that's the whole purpose, and seeing as the portal gun works Aperture is capable of making that technology. Furthermore, the Combine have mastered interdimensional travel already, so there's that.
Quippy at the end cutscene of this game, when you get control of freeman, g-man is watching from on top of the railings. On the left. Proves g-man is still in control.
i liked it when they was stating that "target has no skill' and stuff when he kept missing, or like when he was hiding and grabbing items they said "target has no motivation" lol
If I remember correctly there are levels of combine assimilation, in which the lower levels keep a lot more of their humanity. High ranking combine soldiers are stripped of their humanity and genetically and physically modified to be better soldiers.
@@Ekajje This is something that a lot of us have been really curious about, and you can actually get some answers if you look closely at Combine corpses in HL:A. You can clearly see different levels of post-humanity. There are ones that are basically still human, there's one that has circuitry coming out of his eye sockets, implying the iconic Combine mask is actually more of a face replacement, and this is somewhat confirmed by the most advanced ones that have basically no face.
@@ComradeInspector Yeah really late reply but if you look at what G-man put for Shepard's status instead of it saying "hired" or "awaiting assignment" it says "detained", and when talking to him he tells Shepard that "At least for now" It's in his best interest to leave him where he couldn't' get hurt or him hurt anyone else and leaves him in stasis.
Problem with the extended mag is that you will lose ammo faster. Cause you can just shoot away. When you reload, you realise oh I just used a full mag. So it may not be a good upgrade for some.
The "Prepare for unforeseen consequences" line was just G-mans way of saying 'yeah, so you screwed up so Earth is gonna be enslaved and your all gonna go extinct.. but you didn't see it coming!'
Jack, I loved your geniune reaction at 1:02:30 when you start hearing the "Vital Signs..." Then when Eli says "Gordon" out loud your reaction was absolutely priceless, you couldn't fake that even if you tried. I'm right there with you, that actually blew me away just as much as it did for you. Though I had to spend an hour trying to realize that it did happen in the game.
@Lemon Hacking Real talk tho, I love the HEV suit AI voice. She sounds so happy to help you, which I get is kinda embedded into her programming. But honestly she's adorable.
My theory: Alyx freed G-Man AND Gordon. G-Man has Gordon ‘in his back pocket’ in case he needs to use him. Because Alyx changed the course of time after freeing the Gman, Eli doesn’t die, and the final events of Half Life 2 end differently. When Alyx and Gordon explode the Citadel at the end of HL2, the G-Man repays his debt to Alyx by transporting Gordon to the timeline where Eli still lives.
But in that timeline, Alyx has been taken by Gman. I think it's more Gman taking Alyx for his own purposes and leaving Gordon in the new timeline out of spite for his lack of cooperation.
keep in mind in the episodes following half life 2, the vortigants break/block g-mans connection with gordon. I think this is what g-man means by "unwilling or unable to preform the tasks layed before him", he is actually talking about the future here, aka HL3. Assuming the vortigants broke gordans connection with g-man, g-man can no longer force him to complete his future tasks in HL3. Therefore g-man travels back in time to half life 2 episode 2 and takes Alyx from that specific point in time as a replacement to Gordan. Remember in the HL episodes when G-man told Gordan it was very important Gordan gets Alyx to whiteforest? Well this is why.
Everyone please calm down in the comments ;-; I think what Inkling was trying to say was that I had more likes than his subscribers on his channel, and congratulated me. Anyway, let’s all talk about this masterpiece of a game! What was your favorite part?
When Eli handed me that crowbar, I took it and instantly hugged him. I held nothing physically, but it really felt like I connected with someone so close to me who I thought was dead for more than a decade. The entire series left a huge impact on me growing up. Seeing it return better than ever and experience it myself was one of the best moments of my life.
That's powerful. I'm certain there are no words to accurately describe how you felt but you did your best and I one can only hope to one day experience the emotions you tried to write out in mortal words.
The soldiers in HL:A seem to have more humanity in general, suggesting the transhuman operations they undergo weren't as severe this early in the invasion. If you betrayed your entire species to save yourself, you might regret that decision in your last moments as you realize you're going to die anyway. The enemies of the Half-Life games, with the possible exception of the advisors, are being exploited by the Combine Empire. Humans are used as police and soldiers, Vortigaunts are used for power and labor, Antlions are used for medicine and infestation control, Headcrabs are used as bioweapons. You can even see rats and what I *think* are human teeth in the masses of flesh that run the combine computers. Species that can't be exploited are either left to die or actively killed off. There are a lot of species in Half-Life 1 that don't show up later because they were invasive species that weren't useful enough to the Combine.
VR Developers: It's a young medium; we'll make simple games and tech demos to determine its potential and test the waters. Valve: HOLD MY DAMN CROWBAR...

puck spirit it’s subjective and depends on the headset If you’re using a 5dollar headset made from cardboard and hooked it up to a literal potato and launched a fast pace game. It’s your own fault Beat saber your just slashing blocks and is hard to experience motion sickness unless you get tunnel vision by moving lights
Possibly one of the biggest things is Valve was really trying to avoid motion sickness for everything - you slowfall when you jump, teleportation is used for situations where you'd move too fast or go vertical, you move slow and with weight with regular stick movement - I'd actually like to see what Valve would do if they removed some of the most obvious and distracting features like slowfall for a future game.
It’s so weird to say “Half Life 3 confirmed” and like actually mean it this time Edit: y’all I’m referring to the ENDING OF THIS GAME, not this game itself
I don’t see many people talk about this, but I really enjoy how Sean talks about his thoughts on the game he plays, it feels personal, and especially this one, seeing him so happy, made me smile. Thank you, Sean.
Tbh. I dont really like it that much. But i wont judge your opinions. I do however think that jack has potential to be a good game developer that focuses on graphics.
Maybe once we get brain interfaces we'll get Half-Life: Eli Gordon's in it but he's just an NPC that follows you around with a crowbar and stares at you not saying a word.
You know what would be a really mindbending epicness? If they surreptitiously pushed a patch for HL2, in which it would detect if you finished playing Alyx, and then depending on how you finished the game, it would change the ending of HL2:Ep2 when you replay it.
@@quelorepario Maybe, but it'll just ruin the "wtf wow factor" moment if they did that. I know was certainly like "holy shi--= WTF!" when I finished Alyx. In the end though, I think it'll just be too much effort and destroy the supposed cliff hanger. But that just me
"the game is like 8-10 hours" I've explored so much shit it took me 26 hours XDDDDD I actually spent time picking up newspapers and reading them at the beginning.
Michael Shapiro, the G-Man’s voice actor, definitely hasn’t lost it. I felt goosebumps simply hearing his voice again, so many years since Episode 2. (Also, if Valve weren’t planning HL3 I doubt they’d end it like THAT, with perfect sequel set up. Eli passing Gordon the crowbar again is definite symbolism for a return I think).
Is it really that time mister freeman time to play half life 3? Rise and shine half life 3 and smell the ashes of the gamers who didn't live long enough to see half life 3. The wrong game in the right time can make all the difference in the world(I'm talking how we wanted hl3 but got a really amazing game hl alyx that during this pandemic will bust the sales of the oculus rift and because it was shown that triple a games can be made on vr and you can make good money from them other developers will make other triple a games for vr and of course my favorite franchise in the world started the beginning of good vr games I'm so proud first 1998 it was revolutionary for that time and the when hl2 came out with all of its episodes and now 2020 and because of the good sales from the game valve will make hl3 and they basically confirmed it at the ending
Fun story: Shapiro is a theater director in New York City now so a couple of members of Valve staff had to fly over there from Washington state to record it and they were concerned that he wouldn't even remember what any of this was about, but he instantly turned back into G-Man as soon as they started recording.
Plus I love the thought of the line "Come on, Gordon. We've got work to do." is straight up an indirect message from the devs telling us they're going to work their asses off to make a badass continuation of this story.
Heck, yeah but I still think this ending is on par with Portal 2 ending. The ending of Portal 2 was an environmental masterpiece which to this day always gives me goosebumps. The emotions of true success, peace, and happiness that you get are something that makes it worth it. Valve games are so good, not only because of their gameplay or environments but how they mastered making the best endings in video game history.
This was my GOTY by miles. Everything you said is all true. The immersion, the sense of wonder, the combat and physics were all top of the class. No one can do what Valve does.
Jack, since now would be the perfect time if your still interested in Half-Life, the Half-Life 1 fanmade remake, Black Mesa, recently fully released. Would be kinda neat to know your thoughts about it
As it happened I just started mouthing the sentences automatically because they're so engraved into my brain, and I knew something was going to happen.
Seen as though Gman is present in the scene means he knows Eli and Gordon are out to ultimately kill him. Which could possibly mean Gman may need to set out one of his subjects to stop the two, which the only person I could think of being capable seen as though Alyx wouldn't kill her dad would be Adrian Sheperd.

I used to get motion sick from VR, but I never felt anything like that after playing all of HLA. With smooth locomotion too.
I’m prone to motion sickness and yet the only time I felt anything was that hall section. Somehow Valve has mostly cured me.
They probably made it that way because if you got that far into the game you probably got acclimated to be motion sickness lol

@@KaedeIshimora Fuck you mean life on earth as vibrant? There was grass. That was all we saw. My theory:
Alyx freed G-Man AND Gordon.

Hehe G-Man puns?
@@matdoesmc2633 Good one
Gman let Eli get killed by the advisor as a bargaining chip
keep in mind in the episodes following half life 2, the vortigants break/block g-mans connection with gordon.

Has anyone else noticed that the Combine soldiers sometimes say "sorry" when they die? 16:13
I think they might be apologising to their families or the combine, because they know what the price of failure is
The combine are brainwashed humans, so I guess the brainwashing stops and they remember everything once they're about to die.

Thank you, Sean.

When you walk into the final room of fallout 3 and you have to remember the number from the beginning of the game:
Maybe once we get brain interfaces we'll get Half-Life: Eli
Gordon's in it but he's just an NPC that follows you around with a crowbar and stares at you not saying a word.
Zennith The Folf sooo the Homes games?
Half-Life 2077
he runs around swinging the crowbar and kills everything in 1 hit.
eli does nothing, and the game is 6 hours.
Hehehehe Eli...."Brain"
And then another cliffhanger.
"You are about to get pumped, by Jack."
My brain:"You are about to get JACKED"
The original is much more suggestive though.
"I love it. I love the...the...power." - Jack being genuinely mad with power
You know what would be a really mindbending epicness? If they surreptitiously pushed a patch for HL2, in which it would detect if you finished playing Alyx, and then depending on how you finished the game, it would change the ending of HL2:Ep2 when you replay it.
There's a reason epistle 3 come out, its for fans to create the game, this is after Epistle 3 so its new timeline everyone wins
That's' NOT a good idea actually, or else it'll spoil Alyx for everyone like that
@@captainflowers748 how would it spoil it? If you haven't played Alyx, there is nothing to detect, therefore your HL2 replay is exactly the same.

Oh man, if Valve hires Ross to voice Gordon in future Half-Life games, I'd buy them on day one for that alone.
Or "Aww, my head freakin' hurts... Oh, hey, crowbar."
I thought he'd be voiced by Anthony Mackie.
All respect to Ross Scott, the ideal Gordon Freeman VA is WayneradioTV

In half life 3 you will be saving Alyx and killing G-man.
