The government creates inflation to collect more money. Is way to "tax" the hell out of us without "raising taxes". Capital gains and property taxes, and other taxes should ve adjusted to inflation. That will avoid bad fiscal policies. Real estate, food etc has not increased in value. People are leaving Florida more because of climate change. You know that between August and November every single year, you're going to get hurricanes, and it's only a matter of will the hurricane hit your part of Florida, or a different part. Getting homeowner's insurance down there for a reasonable price is nearly impossible these days and some people can't get it PERIOD! Ignoring the politics, Florida is an attractive place, especially for someone like me that hates cold winters. But climate change is making it impossible.
I would imagine anyone leaving Texas is doing so for the same reason, although they don't have it as bad as Florida.
To me, the north east is the best area to live. We have access to the great lakes, the 2nd largest fresh water source in the entire world, we don't have hurricanes, earthquakes or tornadoes, no forest fires, nothing. Just cold winters, and when that bothers you, you can take a two week vacation somewhere warm. When you're retired, you can do like some of my neighbors do and hang out in Florida during the winter. Summers in Florida? No thanks!

I live in San Bernardino area and life basically revolves around a 30 minute drive radius. How often do you go beyond that for pleasure activities?
Yes the beach is _only_ 1.25hrs away, but that becomes more of a special occasion activity than a brief 'hop on down to the beach' afternoon. And the weather sucks 2/5th of the year among other downsides.
Basically, there's so many tradeoffs that for some people it makes sense to leave because they don't value what CA offers as highly

If I was a young kid, fresh out of college, no way I'd live where I live. I'd consider not only moving to a cheaper state, I'd consider moving out of the country. If you program for a living like I do and you're a young kid, fresh out of college, why on earth would you live in California or New York? While the amenities and things you can do are great, the cost is ridiculous. Imagine living in Panama from 25 to 35 years of age, saving $75K every year, putting that money in a fun that matches the S&P 500. Crime and gun violence, traffic, long traffic lights, and constant road construction and road closures due to events in Las Vegas are an issue as well. Intoxicated drivers! Causing a high rate of traffic deaths is a huge issue. And ticket prices for any type of entertainment have gone through the roof, and when the Raiders came to town, it made things worse. It's hard to maintain a good set of friends because so many come to Vegas, and a few short years or less, they move, and the people here aren't very friendly and my wife is not happy here so it's time to go back where we came from and tell your friends to please do their homework before moving housing has become way overpriced in Clark County. @@tl1533 You should educate yourself because it seems you don't understand economics. CA is the only state in the Republic that has two gas taxes because after a UC Berkeley audit, they found out the CA Gov't does not know where the money is going from the 1st gas tax, so they thought it would be a great idea to pass a measure for a 2nd gas tax. This is taxation without representation. The average cost of living compared to other states, CA tops at number 2 most expensive state outside of New York. Average taxes a Californian pays making more than $100K as a single filer is on average about 60%-90% depending where in the state they live. This includes, State and Federal income tax, sales tax, property tax, gas tax, city sales tax (depending on which city they live), and other taxes etc. So before you just make a stupid ignorant opinion break down the facts. You must be a Democrat, all of them are pretty dumb.
