    I came to Thailand in a 90 day visa, did one border run to Cambodia and then took a trip to Malaysia to get another 45 day exemption. Was warned by the immigration agent at the airport when I returned to Thailand that if I did another border run by air I should stay away longer than a few days. Apparently the short trip by air raised a flag and I could have been denied entry.

      @@derricka4525 I have thai wife and kids and same exact story happened to me in Phuket on my way back from Kula Lumpur in my understanding that "6x air border run by annual calendar was allowed". In fact be very careful after the 2nd exempts, specially if you spent just 1 day outside Thailand and intend to come back in Thailand 24h later. You could be deported and forced to book a flight to another country or back to your home country. We arrived with my Thai wife and 3 daughters ( who are double nationals both thai and French) and reasons why i arrived with a Tourist Visa instead of Non-o is because we had to fly in the rush to take care of my Thai mother in law and also for my Kids and wife to see her one last time. (She unfortunately passed away on 24th on December 2022). So i have multiplied the extensions on my initial Tourist Visa for which i had to apply in the rush from France when Covid restrictions was about to get removed (but still in place on our arrival: 23rd on May 2022). Securing non-O was taking few more days (time we couldn't afford to lose as my wife's mum needed to be hospitalized in a good private hospital which we managed to do with my wife immediately after our arrival in Bangkok and she recovered and could see her daughters and our 3 daughters ❤️ 🙏 which was amazing.
      Unfortunately after she recovered, doing home school with our 3 daughters 🥵, and without knowing for how long we will need to stay in Thailand.
      Due to many factors including lack of time, my part-time remote work 💯 online. I have multiplied the Visa exempts 45 day..... Instead of trying to get a NON-Family married to Thai wife or Parent of Thai kid) : The financial requirements of 400k Thai Bath to transfer on a Thaï Bank account was more than i could afford, especially after my mother in law's Private Hospital's bills....
      Today 20th of April 2023 i'm finally flying on the 4th of May to Vientiane in order to hopefully secure a NON-O (Parent of Thai kids). On Vientiane's official Thaï embassy check list of required documents for this type of VISA : They dont mention any types of proof of funds but i will do prepare (just in case) on the top of birth Thai certificates and my kids Thai just renewed passports :
      A copy of my wife's Bank accounts statements for the last 10 months (Bank account showing Her First Name + my Family Name) and all the 80k+bath from my Banks showing my full name. ----> We use her Bank to avoid me credit cards ATM and banks fees
      - Also i have about 8k+ Euros 💶 on my French Bank account, but again Vientiane Embassy seems to doesn't asks for any proof of funds for this type of VISA....
      So i'm confused in case they would do requires proof of monthly incomes /or amount in French or Thai Bank.... If the list of transfers i do to my wife every month would works ?
      Or B) If it's not accepted what type of banks proof of incomes they could ask me and would printing my French bank accounts summary and/or opening my French Banking App in front the officer is appropriate/accepted?
      Much much appreciated if you took the time to read me ? Sorry for this very long message.... And if anyone knows/has done similar visa recently in Vientiane Embassy ?
      knows what documents/possible requested additional documents for a non-O parents of Thai kids could be requested, again (taking into account that It's been almost 1 year we are living in Thailand! And as i explained above in my message, i have multiplied Tourist visa, then free visa and multiples extensions to stay here in Phuket. I've also asked our owner to print receipts of latest payment+ house contract she kindly signed and provide.
      Do you guys thinking i will be fine ? If not which additional documents would you brings?
      A tons of love and 🙏 Thanks for your replies ♥️

      @@simonbackwash I see a requirement of $1500 USD per family for US citizens for Non-O visa, I would assume that would be the equivalent for French (about 51,000 baht). You have passports and should probably have a paper copy of a bank balance and marriage certificate. There are a few minor things like 2 passport sized photos, flight confirmation going to Thailand and declaration form. That is what I see for US nationals. Also, it is recommending at least 15 business days for application approval.
      I used a visa agent to do a 90 day non-o visa to turn into a 1 year retirement visa. Today was the 11th business day since I applied.

    In relation to Visa exempt, 2 land entries only per calendar year. I don't know if this applies to entry by sea. There are NO limits for entry by air. You give a good example of citizens of nearby countries entering Thailand for short visits of one or two days then leaving, multiple times a year. Malaysian citizens are exempt from the 2 land entries rule.

  • @toddaniels
    @toddaniels ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That would be false information
    The distinction came about January 1st 2017 when they stopped the 15-day unlimited entry by land which they went to for a short period of time in an effort to curtail people living here on free 30-day stamps. They reduced it to 15 days, but there was no finite amount of those you could get: so as long as you went to the border every 15 days you could get another 15 day stamp.
    On that date Jan 1, 2017 they moved it back to 30 days, but put a limit of 2 per calendar year (January 1st - December 31st) on visa exempt land entries

    My daydreaming goes something like this. It starts getting cold in chicago so I fly to thailand. Stay about 28 days and then fly to cambodia for a couple weeks. Then fly back to thailand for about 28 days them fly to the Philippines for 2 or 4 weeks then fly back to thailand for 30 days then go back home and enjoy springtime...
    Is this a pretty sound strategy?

    @integrity yea you're wrong. I guess law degree from whatever shoe-in-the-box school you got in the US didn't help. Anyway.. flying you can do a lot of land its 2.. My friend Richard from the US did 2 and was told he would not be able to do any by immigration. I have asked immigration if I could do air. Guess what I've done 10+ via air.. no issues. The problem is land, not air. There was a distinction on the Thai immigration website and I read that a while back but that was during covid.

    Interesting and relevant topic. But your deep dive should be Practical not Legal. ie: Can Denied Serial Tourists leave the airport? If granted 7 days, as happens in Mexico, then an orderly exit to a nearby country may be no big deal. (That is, the Serial Tourist has plenty of Thai-time upside, with no real downside, in making 3-6 visits per year, law or no law.) However, if a Denied Serial Tourist has to buy an air ticket back out, on the spot, US-style, that is quite another thing... in Practical, not Legal, terms...

    • @Aumscuba
      @Aumscuba ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are denied entry in to thailand then that'a it. You buy a ticket out of thailand. In some cases thai immigration have instructed the denied person to purchase a ticket to their home country (not sure how they can enforce that but I guess they hold all the cards) or you can spend some time in the detention center until you sort out a ticket.

    This is just from a loose conversation i had with an emigration person at a bar i Chiang Mai some time ago, he was the father of a date of mine, and he said that he go alomg the line of max 150 days pr calendar year as exemption stamp or exemption-extention at the Chiang Mai Office, or 180 days in 180 days if the stay goes across the new calender year. But that was his opinion and perconal practice. He says there are some in the office that only gives 120 days a year regardless on stamps pr calender year or 180 periode days regardless of new calender year. Some gives 90 days out after 120 days in, it depends on the officer here, but taking out of this as Ben says two borderruns 30+30 run to border and 30+30 is safe, thats a guarantee but beound that be carefull.
    If you want to maximice the stay, you arrive on exemption stamp 30+30 and do a borderrun and """ NOT DOO 30 EXTENTION ON YOU SECOND STAY.""".... Then you get a tourist visa for 60 days outside of Thailand, enter Thailand and extend that 30 days giving you 180 days total. If you do your second estention on exemption the chanses of beeing denied tourist visa is quite big, so don't do your extension number two.
    For Norwegian Thai Embassy page oslo.thaiembassy.org/ you can apply for a multiply entry visa for 160 USD, and gives you unlimited re-entries within 180 day period, and if you leav and re-enter on the last day you will be given 60 days by default + 30 days extentions it till give you 270 days or 9 months in Thailand legaly. If you are crative and comes on excemption stamp and estend 30 days, go to malaysia and malaysia and creatively use a Norwegian IP-address in Malaysia you will get that visa so then 30 + 30 + Multiple re-entry tourist visa 270 days maxed out to 330 days. That's the absolut max now. Impossible to push it lonnger for shure!

    • @ayebo15
      @ayebo15 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jan Erik Kvarsten if you re-enter on your last day of your 180 days Visa you will always get an additional 60 days? can you explain please why you get those 60 days? does it have to be the very last day or can it also be some days before the last one?
      Can i repeat this process of staying 330 Days per Year every following year?

    • @janerikkvarsten2273
      @janerikkvarsten2273 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ayebo15 Yes... you get a multiple entry visa that is valid for 180 days before you enter, and every time you enter within those 180 days you will get a 60 day stamp. So if you enter on day 180 you will get a 60 day stamp, on that day as well and then you get an extention on top of the last entry stamp and then you reach 270 days. After that you will have maxed out the visa, so that means hard out after that.
      Can you repeat the process again straight after? I don't think so, because of the hard out policy of that visa. But i think you can re-enter Thailand after 90 days out of Thailand again, but check with an emigration lawyer on that issue when you are in Thailand at least within the 180 days staying there in order to start the process of getting the documents ready for another residence visa. If you are over 50 years old, retirement visa. If you are older than 30 years old, an 20 year long elite visa if you want to live in Thailand.
      When it comes to who the 270 days visa is good for? I will think of somebody that will have close to a gap-year or somting in those lines, and are not intending to stay longer than that, so stay for a while and not live in Thailand, or those that will try to stay for a while to realy check if Thailand is something for you. If you have stayed for nine months and Thailand is it, then go home and arrange a retirement visa, or elite visa for the most part.

      + can i assume the 30 days extension will be granted? can you recommend me a Visa Extension Service Company to save time?
      + with this 180 days visa i will not have to report every 60/90 days to Immigration because i will be forced to leave every 60 days, right?
      I am 43 since April. it is 7 more years untill i can get the Retirement Visa.
      The Elite Visa is kinda expansive. But i heard Elite Visa Representatives will assist you & resolve problems for you. Is the Elite Visa really worth the money? Should i get the 5 year Elite Visa OR just use Education ED Visa (2 year max) & yearly 180 day Tourist TR Visa until i reach 50?

      @janerikkvarsten2273 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are that keen on living in Thailand, and i assume that you have Been there for a While, i would just have gone tor the 10 year Elite Visa, or maybe 20 year Elite. if you go for 20 year elite visa, then it's 50.000 Bath pr year, and less hassle, så that's a nobrainer. If i were you, then i would have hurried up getting the elite visa, because the goverment will change soon as a result of the resent election, and thats an unpredictable prospect so the ilite visa gate may close, or it may become more open, i don't know on future Thai Politics, but at least 1 million Bath will fiks everything for you.

    The law actually states that you can only spend 90 days total on a visa exemption in a 6 month period. I did not know this before I was stopped and was ( initially ) rejected entry because of this exact reason.
    I had done a couple of one-day trips to Vietnam to refresh my exemption before this trip so I was well above 90 days at this point.
    In the end I had a good dialogue with the immigration officer, explaining why I had been so long and my plans for going home. The officer wanted to see my finances, and a ticket home to my country that was within the window of the plans I had explained to her. So we agreed that I ordered a ticket back home, show it to her, and I was eventually let into the Kingdom.
    TL;DR:
    I was initially denied entry because there I spent too much time in Thailand on a visa exemption. Had a good chat and provided proof of finances and proof of actually going home after this exemption-period. Got let in by the immigration officers good grace.

    Thailand must be losing money by being restrictive and making tourists jump through so many hoops. There are other countries with the same weather and lower cost of living right next door that are more tourist friendly. I understand the health insurance part of it; could be a drag on their country if a foreigner can't pay his/her hospital bill. Other than that why deny people with plenty of time on their hands and willing to spend money in the Kingdom. Doesn't seem logical but alas many things here don't seem logical.

      Basically most of these people aren't tourists. They're living in Thailand and most likely working here as well. Some of those are taking jobs from locals like driving a taxi or working as a tour guide. Others are working on line while forcing up house prices. Then there are the Thais who want to go and travel abroad but don't get such generous reciprocal conditions ( Europe, UK,US) the Thai government need to keep the domestic audience happy also.
