      I wrench blue collar. Sorry, the Super Bee had left the shop on a rainy day and had no chance to video it for TH-cam. The 340 Duster is on a past video on our channel.

    Truly a labor of love with that old Volvo. Nick, you’re a helluva man for going with your gut and giving that pup a shot. To me, it’s what separates a guy who works on cars from a Mechanic, if you get my point.

    I think it is Grand that you got that Volvo 164 repaired in all those different areas, and was able to keep it for your customer, even though it was a little out of your normal area of expertise.

    That Hemi Roars! It's sucking all the air out of the room. Thats the best engine yet on Nick's Dyno! Scary and loud both. No Chevy or Ford engine could ever touch this engine. It's a monster in sheep's clothing! SHAWN

    As cool as it is to see all the classic American muscle you guys have moved through the shop, THIS Volvo really gets a huge thank you. Unfortunately those old Swedish beasts don't get much love here in North America but if there's a story behind one... they can be just and classic and emotionally connected. We are just about to start this same process on a 1964 Volvo 122S B18 that my father stored over 20 years ago! Not something we can just call the parts store for or overnight some parts for Jegs!
    Keep these videos coming guys, great to see an honest real shop turning out dreams like these!

    Nick is one of the best mechanics I've ever seen, and I know a lot of very good mechanics. Guys like Nick are in a class by themselves, arrive early, stay late, always giving it 110% and still always learning something new. Guys like Nick are the best to learn the trade from, because they are usually generous with their knowledge. I love this channel!!!

    Great video. The ending caught me ! The reaction of the owner of the volvo. It's incredible says the owner. It's incredible indeed. To have people turn you down to fix your car, to have support of the people on youtube and to be failing on and on. To have nobody have faith in what you wish to carry on and protect what is memories to you. Incredible that Nick not knowing what he was getting himself into finally did its way to succeed. Very nice touch at the end with Volvo owner driving the night away.

      HOORAY VOLVO! More slow cars please. I want to see him apply his hotrod sense backwards to maximize efficiency and 2wd traction like squareback and Corvair wagon. I have a 1982 w150 /6 92hp "POWER RAM" 4WD, but 2wd traction would be simpler and more efficient. How light an engine can we easily put in a B200 longtail for traction?

    A Hemi and a Volvo walk into a bar...lol
    But why not?
    It's basically a "repair shop"
    All makes and models are welcome...at least they WHERE back in the day.
    I remember when I got my Jag XKE 12 cyl.
    My mentor Pete did not tease me to much...
    He actually wanted to understand the car.
    WHEN it ran....
    I let him take a few laps at Watkins Glen race track.
    When that car was allowed to wind up in the upper rpm range and you drove the car with shifter/clutch and brakes it was a different animal.
    After that?
    He brought Jaguar manuals.
    "Jags where fed and watered HERE"
    Was added to the signs out over the door.
    The way of the muscle car will never die.

    you should try a IR Hemi intake, a Bathtub Hemi intake, 2x4 and the single 4 all against eachother…..also note 3 things that make Dyno runs unrealistic...the exhaust is free-er flowing than anything you would find on a production car 2) the water temp/consistency is lower than most radiators could supply 3) there is no inertia at play, so oil doesn't slop to the back of the pan and the carbs also don't suffer in the fuel bowl much like the oil pan.

    I remember when I was a kid, my friends mom and dad bought a brand new 164E. They drove it home from the dealer and as they pull up in their driveway there was a trail of fresh gas. We opened the hood and could see all the fuel injectors were peeing fuel all over the place. Once we tightened all the fuel injectors, it quit leaking. Also I remember the big deal about this car was the computer under the drivers seat, or at least that is where we believed it was, and that this computer could calculate and control functions on this car 6 or was it 60 times per second.. Or something like that. It was a selling point I am sure. It was a burgundy red. I forget the year of this car... 1974? something like that.. Anything computer in that day was a big deal.

      Nice, I had a white 1972 164E, Volvo made them from late '71 to '75. The computer was actually in the kick panel in the right hand side footwell (drivers side on RHD models), and yeah EFI was a huge thing back in the day when only Volvo, BMW and Mercedes were using the technology.

      @Tiger351 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@castirondude Yep they had a (basic) computer mounted in the right hand side kick panel (passenger side on LHD cars, drivers side on RHD cars). It only really did fuel metering though as all injector fired at the same time governed by 2 additional contacts located underneath the main ignition contacts in the distributor body. The system was by Bosch and called Q-jet from memory, BMW also used pretty much the same system at that time.

    • @castirondude
      @castirondude 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Tiger351 Interesting. My uncle had one, 1978-80 vintage, always started at a touch of the key. I heard Bosch bought the patents from GM. GM toyed with the idea for a while and decided to just stick with regular carburetors. It's a shame , even then fuel injection was superior for driveability.

      @@castirondude I can't remember the exact details but I think it was on some of the Chevy Vegas for a few years before GM ditched the idea. If I remember correctly Rochester started developing it in collaboration with Bosch as a replacement for the mechanical injection that was on 50's-60's Chevy's.

    these cars are fantastic but they need special attention when working on.
    I'm a lover for the old RWD Volvo for more than 40 years and my interest point on this video is specifically to what id done on this volvo.

    My family had a Volvo just like that one in the 80's, they put it in some old guys barn for storage and we moved away. When we came back the barn was gone and the land was being turned into a sub division. Oops.

    couldnt help but notice in the dyno control room next to the throttle was Nicks chocolate milk, you are as bad as me Nick, cant survive more than 2 hours without chocolate milk, lol. Love all the hemi content as usual, even though my toy is an AC Cobra, but the future hot rod will be getting a hemi.
