In the Steve Jobs biography they said the reason why they did rounded edges was because people were afraid of technology so it made the products accessible and not threatening to pick it up.
Generally, more rounded stuff is more friendly. Think of kids toys that are usually really rounded. When the iPhone and iPod first came out, Apple was probably more concerned about getting people to accept the tech rather than performance
really interesting design analysis - I appreciate the application of the explanation at each stage!! I've used apple products all my life, and can confidently say that I won't be switching any time soon... a big part of that is the stunning design language and genuine quality. thank you for this video.

@@somegraythings Nike, Tesla, IKEA, Rolex, Porsche I think the concept is really amazing and has the potential of reaching many, and the content is so well crafted I think it is just a question of finding the right clickbait level of a video title and a thumbnail image ✨ Thank you for the video!
Amazing research and design process! Just wish to debate your antennas and resting pads- the antennae look more like resting pads (like the pads on macbooks) and your centre pad looks more like the top because its centrally aligned and has so much emphasis(oval & harmonious to the overall form, central, sharp contrast to the background{black on aluminium}, it's raised and it has something written in the centre). Would love to hear what you think!
You are awesome! Just one detail that you could change on the screws. Instead of Allen, it could be the Pentalobe screw, which is what Apple normally uses. Hugs from Brazil!
Maybe try new thumbnails or titles, but this is definitely a concept that people would like. I haven't seen anyone do a design language breakdown like this
Great video David! I am always so inspired when I watch your videos - explanations, the visuals are good, and the pace is just my style. Its amazing that your analysis of the brand and their products result in a product like this - I think I would have gotten a completely different result :-) But I like it very much, and all your decisions are explained too. I was wondering however, why you started with a rectangular shape, and not a square, as the previous routers from Apple?
Oh Mads, you’re making me blush. I think a square would have been too much like other Apple products (ex. Mac Mini/studio). I thought they would try a different aspect ratio for a new product line. I also kind of liked the look of this metal bar type thing :)
@@somegraythings I agree. It felt odd at the beginning - but as you added more details to it - it felt like it "clicked into place". Thanks for uploading and inspiring!
@@designersvane oh yeah it looks super lame at the beginning haha. But that's an interesting point, I think part of the "heavy" thing might include aspect ratios as well. Maybe on the next thing, I will make it a bit more chonky in the beginning
I would not particular use the heavy approach but more the thick design approach and Material Composition of Metal and co. Other than that a premium analysis! Thanks
I would be curious to know how Apple (or you) would justifiy the changes over time in their design philosophy. I would argue (and suspect that you would agree) that good design shouldn't be trendy or go out of style. Yet Apple seems to have gone through several different design stages (as you note) over time. Anyway, good video.

Smart! I was thinking the glass windows would be enough for the antennas, but I don’t know. I feel like Apple would at least try to get away with Aluminum
How i understand is why apple products are always recognizable is because they stick to a design for a long time or they change things in a way it is still recognizable that's why apple products are icon Nothing is a company that is following apple design philosophy following the apple footstep
In the Steve Jobs biography they said the reason why they did rounded edges was because people were afraid of technology so it made the products accessible and not threatening to pick it up.
That’s so Frank Lloyd Wright thinking. He once said that “the box was a fascist symbol”. He loved his rounded corners and edges.

what's the design tool you use ?
I was using a bit or Rhinoceros and a bit of Fusion 360 for this one. Rendered in Keyshot
